What gives them the right to think they should jump the queue on a vaccine?

Whilst they have been sat on their arse's for a 12 month getting full pay, a lot of us have been out working, others have lost their jobs or have been on 80% pay..

How about the volunteered to work some Saturday mornings or gave up some of their holidays to help kids catch up on their education.

Probably by the same clowns who originally said that the virus wasn't being spread in schools..... We all knew how that ended.

What hope do teachers have when parents send their kids to school with opinions like the OP, respect is lost Right from the start.

Vaccinate the teachers I say, teaching in a shool with over 1k children, those children coming into contact with just 4 different people in their household then takes that total of 5k people.... That number will likely be more when you thrown grandparents, aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.

Tell me another occupation where you could be affected by those sorts of numbers?

If teachers were vaccinated it would slow down the roll out to the older and vulnerable.Teachers are not deemed a priority, get used to it and get over it.

As long as those righties are making money they don't care where it's from mate. As you can see with those government contracts handed out to their rightie mates.

And lefties don't make money?

I have respect for many hard working professions sunshine but I know a vey high percentage of teachers are taking the mick.

There are lots of professions who are living the life of riley 'working from home' but at the moment they are not wanting to go above other people who are deemed more vulnerable when it comes to having a vaccine.

If you believe the NUT & (some) teachers have the best interest of kids at heart you are a gullible fool.

If they are so concerned about kids education why not take holidays now & work through the summer holidays like lots of people in the public sector have had to do? I am sure if civil servants had been furloughed & were losing 20% pay they wouldn't be pushing to stay off even longer.

1 thing from this thread obviously teachers in Swansea are different to those in the rest of the country.

Teachers are not self employed and most are left wing.

How do you determine most teachers are left wing?

The teachers are well paid to do their jobs . They should just get on and do what they are paid to do. Most of us can only dream of 13 weeks holidays a year.

Penc, Felix , I tried bringing a little light heartedness last night initially, but you've carried on today without pausing to recognise there are decent hard working teachers out there. I'm actually (and this is 100% serious) quite hurt and offended at some of the comments made at the whole profession. Feel quite sorry for Mrs TF, (and Gwyn)who care so much and put so much in only to be slurred this way from behind a keyboard.
The fact you called them "lazy left wing tossers" is an absolute disgrace.
You must have had a really bad experience or as the Prof says taken in by the daily mail and the like.

And I’m sure it you asked Mrs. TF she would say (like me) that we’re just cracking on and that everyone we know is doing the same.

I’m not sure where Penc is getting his high % from. You’re always going to get a small minority taking the mick as you would in all work places but it doesn’t resonate with my experience, particularly during this lockdown.

I’m still in work. So are 65% of the teaching staff. The others are at home feeding back on the Google classroom work they’ve curated today (during ‘normal’ teaching contact hours) the prerecording tomorrow’s lessons so families have the flexibility to access them at a suitable time.

This is nothing out of the ordinary. It’s happening in the mass majority of schools. I know this as I sit on the Local Authority task and assessment group that monitors pupil engagement across the 220+ primary schools in the county.

I’d say my evidence base is pretty strong.

Depends on the situation with the teacher. Lots of teachers are old and vulnerable. Some are overweight. There’s little point in vaccinating the twenty and thirty year olds when there’s sixty and over people who need it first.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

What a depressing thread. The parroting of the Daily Mail narrative that teachers are lazy and feckless and have been doing nothing during this lockdown is so far removed from the truth that it's painful.

I won't go into all the things that schools have done during the lockdown to support kids and families because it won't change minds already made up but any school leadership team worth its salt would ensure that teachers haven't been 'sat on their arses' or 'taking the mick'.

I know it's a cliche but if teaching is so easy give it a go - God knows there are plenty of vacancies.

“13 weeks holiday a year”

You’re better than that, Felix. It’s a cheap shot that as you know, doesn’t bear any resemblance to reality.

England has just announced summer schools.

Do you really think that teachers don't do any work for 6 weeks every summer?

It’s about priorities and the powers that be have decided, but it may well result in schools closing and continued disruption. If teachers were vaccinated, the older and vulnerable would be affected, but some of these could continue to shield and self isolate without much trouble.
We saw what happened to the R number last year when schools reopened and it may well happen again.

There seems to be a growing consensus that summer schools are the way forward to plug this perceived gap in student learning. There are many respected educationalists without any particular political agenda who think summer schools are not the answer not least because the group who have potentially missed out most during lockdown are disadvantaged students and they are least likely to attend any catch up sessions in the summer. It looks like a good idea politically, less effective from an educational point of view.

Well, I'm a University lecturer and the misses is a secondary school teacher...and it just goes to show that a lot of people don't have a f*cking clue what is happening in education behind the scenes.

Can't be arsed typing a reply to the OP because this has been covered many times...'sitting on their arse for 12 months'...FFS...

Most on here would shít the bed if they had to work in education for a day.

You obviously know the wrong sort of teacher.

Take a holiday now? How do you think live classes would be delivered? How will kids be able to contact teachers for 1:1 help?

I think you've got the impression in your head that teachers are getting up in the morning and doing nothing, while kids are sat at home twiddling their thumbs. This is not the case at all.

Clueless.
