Swansea City v Cardiff City : Matchday Thread Cardiff fans surface 😂 09:20 - Mar 15 with 17929 viewsNotLoyal

We thought an extra few days leading up to Cardiff City’s least important fixture of the season would give everyone enough time to used this boring and insignificant championship game.

This fixture is so not a thing it’s a non thing with added non thingness. The game Cardiff can’t win, no matter how hard they try has become a non event in their own minds, and those supporters who still follow that team. It’s odd, because had they had the slightest bit of success we have no doubt it would be the most important game of the season for them. Strange psyche’.

We have heard of the big fixture against Bristol City, which is never a big fixture, they just pretend it is so when they lose to the swans they can give the impression this game doesn’t really matter that much. But the scruffs are not fooling us. Their amateur dramatic books reference this fixture more than any other, the fantasists from east Wales where theIr support for their team is matched, or even bigger for Swansea is another problem for them. Their once solid areas of support pre 1950 have crumbled with a new vibrant and young support, far outdoing the baldy fraternity of sixty plus year olds, smelling of stale beer and talking about 1927 and a game against Real Madrid. This Matchday thread will show everyone just who is Wales premier football team, facts and stats and all.

Swansea City record against Cardiff
First off the initial question to impose any superiority on another side, who has won the most games ?

Games won: 29
Games drawn: 18
Games lost: 22

Swansea City as expected lead this table which includes Autoglass trophy, Freight Rover trophy, Sherpa vans trophy, FA cup and league games. If you remove all the cup ties the swans still come out on top. Done. 1-0 the Jacks

Premier league record
Cardiff City have played two seasons in the premier league. They were relegated both times. Over 78 league games they won 17 and lost 46, they drew only 15. Cardiff lost in a major trophy final in 2012. Oh dear.

Swansea City, the first Welsh side to play in the premier league have played seven straight seasons. Playing 266 games they won 82 and drew 66. Highest finish was 8th winning a major trophy at Wembley.

The all time premier league table shows Swansea City in 28th and Cardiff at 44th out of 49 clubs to have played in the premier league. Oh dear. Done 2-0 the Jacks.

28th Swansea City 266 82 66 118 306 383 -77

44th Cardiff City 76 17 13 46 66 143 -77

So, in the top division in English football, the swans canter home well ahead. So how about major European competitions this century that people who are alive can remember, not dead ones ?

Okay dead ones as well.

1927 FA Cup Final Winners Cardiff City In front of the smallest ever crowd at Wembley stadium, boosted by thousands of swans fans supporting a welsh team on the day. It wasn’t until 1981 that a lower attendance was recorded. We only mention this due to Cardiff City fans desire to mention large supports, which as we will see doesn’t really have any substance.

2013 League Cup Final Winners Swansea City. The swans sold 48,572 tickets for this final having beaten Liverpool and Chelsea over two legs to get to the final. Both are fantastic achievements, however nobody remembers 1927 as much as they don’t remember Barnsley’s two FA Cup final victories a few years before. However when that’s all you have to cling on to then I suppose its a thing.

How about In cup competitions over the last 20 years ? This is when the real test of support is an issue, when fans have to spend their hard earned coin and season tickets are not valid. Those games that are not attractive, the Colchester’s and Notts County’s etc. Well, let’s not even go there, Cardiff City on occasion in recent years haven’t even mustered 2,500 home supporters for some cup games, the swans average in excess of 16,000.

The real truth

But it isn’t about statistics alone, social media is a huge thing these days. It’s where the bright young people talk, communicate and in some cases run their lives. That’s both good and bad, but it is what it is.

Swans Official on the social media Twitter platform have in excess of one million followers via 60k tweets. Very decent.

Cardiff City Official have an admirable 354k ish followers from nearly the same amount of tweets. Hang on ? I thought ... Oh well, a lot of those Cardiff fans are all in their mid sixties now, balding and computer illiterate. Or is it just as we all know the youngsters are the future, soaking up the valley towns and turning them white. We know you know the truth.

Swansea City will make football history this weekend 19th Mar 2021 11:20

The coolest minds, the most collective mindsets, the ability of each player, the belief in themselves and the desire to win for a whole city are the qualities required. And Swansea City have them all. In abundance. 0

Hmmm, okay, shocking first 45mins, stated playing after h/t prob because they were happy to sit deep. A lot of our work slows down when Ayew gets involved, Whittaker didn't have the rub of the green today and had a rush of blood at one point, however thought he was very good and will score goals for us. Disappointed he's not been involved before on that showing.
Cardiff defended well and threw bodies at the ball and none of the deflections or blocks fell kindly to us. They are a poor side tbh, but good enough to beat us on the day.

This.

How the feck is Smith on the pitch before dhanda

I think Dhandas only contribution - a welt way over the bar when a shot on target would have yielded a goal - will see him consigned to the rubbish bin at SCFC . Undeserving of the shirt.

Unless we get a ‘lucky’ peno soon let’s give Lowe & Dhanda a go to try & run at their big boys at the back - might lose 2/3 - nil but could equalise & turn this around.

Every time Dhanda takes a shot he leans back and sends it over the bar, he's been like this ever since he joined us. It's a shame he can't be coached into getting his body more over the ball. But things did improve after they came on.

When we’re picking the bones out of this, the above is an incredibly important point.

All the second half pressure was allowed by them. They invited it because they could. To say it was an improved second half for us wouldn’t be right.

They parked the bus 2nd half. The sad thing was that they didn't even do a particularly good job of it. Yes, a few of their players threw themselves at a couple of shots, but they switched off multiple times. Some of the space our players found themselves in in the box was ludicrous, and there were several instances of our players being left in yards of space on the edge of the box from corners/free kicks.

Sadly we weren't good enough to do anything with the space we were given- a better side would have stuck 3 or 4 on them.

Yes, he is a good player but, come on, leaning back will always send it high. WTF was Smith doing when he hit that ball.

Didn't defend well? How many shots did they block? On another night we may have scored 4/5. The stats say we had 23 shots but only one on target, given the onslaught they faced I'd say they defended pretty well.

That was our best performance since Bristol City and arguably better than that. 75% possession, 614passes to 216 and 11 corners to zero, 81% pass accuracy to 51%, no yellow cards to 3 for them.

We were better in almost everything apart from the most important stat, we couldn't score and they did and that was largely down to our poor defending.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Why? You were terrible and only came alive after an hour when we stopped pressing you. You were shocking....a good measure of a team is how they start in a derby, like you did at ours.

Yes, there was some good defending on their part. That is obviously true. As it happens, I actually agree with you that that was one of our better performances of late- but then its not all that hard to look good when your opponent doesn't even bother contesting 2/3rds of the pitch.

The point I'm trying to make is that it wasn't a game where they sat in and watched us play in front of them for 45 mins. They didn't exactly look comfortable did they? Now I'm not a masochist so I won't be going back through that game, but there were plenty of instances of Cardiff players individually and collectively switching off allowing us to get into dangerous areas. I recall one from a short corner where we had the freedom of about half the box to pick out a ball because all the Cardiff players were camped in the six yard box and didn't read it (and we'd been trying them all game!) Maybe it was the Cardiff gameplan to literally block the goal with as many players as possible but that was a good situation that on another day we might have taken advantage of.

We didn't, and that's why lost, not because Cardiff put in a particularly stellar defensive display. I know if I was a Cardiff fan (perish the thought) I would have been pretty uncomfortable with the amount of ground they were ceding and how much they invited us on to them. It worked today but you'll lose more than you'll win playing like that.

Dhanda needs to be loaned out to a welsh league team never a Championship standard player.

We are now discussing playing 36 year old Wayne Routledge ahead of one of our main bench players due to people realising he isn’t that good. It’s actually a suggestion I’m not that against.

But I wonder if people are slowly starting to see why we don’t use many subs now? It weakens us. Our squad is pathetically thin.

Well it didn’t weaken us yesterday did it.

We took off a £40k per week player and brought on a better one. We had Cabango on the bench who you think should be starting (I agree). Whittaker played well and actually looked like scoring, no one has for ages, on another day he gets 1, 2 or even 3.

Only problem with team yesterday was Hourihane. Carrying him. Subs like Lowe, Cabango, Smith do not weaken the team, far from it.

Well no because we started with worse players. But people call for these subs when we have fielded our best side, which weakens us. As Dhanda shows when he comes on.

We should have a better version of Dhanda. MGW was that kind of player, but with the poise, strength and extra quality that Dhanda lacks. Morris was a different type and probably would have played further forward, but would have run at and unsettled defenders with pace and power.

I’ve always defended Routledge, but I think he’s past that role now. He’s still useful to bring on for 10 minutes when we’re protecting a lead because he’s a great out ball to run the channels and hold the ball up long enough for the defence to reset, but I can’t see him unlocking defences now.
