| Welsh independence on 22:32 - Jul 11 by Kilkennyjack | If the Barnett formula worked probably then Cymru would get a significant amount of extra money. Welsh railways not devolved, why are the uk govt not fixing it ? Why aren’t uk govt giving wales extra funding like N Ireland and Scotland for HS2 ? Why doesn’t Cardiff Airport get to set passenger taxes, as in N Ireland and Scotland ? Why isn’t Criminal Justice developed like Scotland, including police ? Why does Cymru not get monies from Crown Estates, Scotland does. Why does corp taxation raised in wales, get counted as English corp taxes Why does the welsh water customers in wales pay more for welsh water than english customers ? Why doesn’t uk govt make welsh coal tips safe ? Why is westminster getting rid of 8 welsh mps ? A lot needs sorting to give welsh govt the tools it needs to do the job. Devo max is needed, probably Annibyniaeth ðŸ´ó §ó ¢ó ·ó ¬ó ³ó ¿ |

| Welsh independence on 23:35 - Jul 11 with 1430 views | gadgetuk | I've spent the last 27 years living in England, but consider myself a proud, welsh speaking Welshman. I live in the South East and the comments I see on here could apply to the North of England, or the Midlands - everything goes to London. I like the idea of independence, but I am not convinced it is workable, I don't think Scottish independence is workable either for very similar reasons. I guess I want some assurances, how would Wales generate sufficient income, what industry would we have, what high paying jobs would there be? | | | |

Wales and Scotland cannot afford to stay in the uk. In December 2020, UK General government gross debt was £2,206.5 billion, or 104.5% of Gross domestic product (13.7% above the average of the 27 European Union member states at that time). And something needs to change, see this …

Every part of Wales is getting poor and that is obviously nothing to do with the Senedd, it has to be 100% Westminsters fault despite the 20 years of devovlve government.

That is 20 years of the Senedd wasting taxpayers money, trying to kill Wales biggest industry, tourism. Refusing to invest in infrastructure etc.

This is of course why the UK TAXPAYERS pump in vast subsidies for Wales under the Barnett formula.

One thing i would just ask is why does England (UK) so desperately want to keep hold and control of Scotland, Wales etc if they are all such a burden. I don't imagine it is philanthropic.

Mainly because the British are one nation, sharing common values, a common language, common heritage, common currency and an integrated economy. Would make no sense to ditch all those advantages.

‘Common language and common heritage’ 150 years ago English teachers used to beat children to stop them speaking Welsh.

Wrong. No such nation as Britain. There is a geographical land mass called Great Britain. The great nations of the British Isles are Cymru, Scotland, Ireland and …. England. The UK is a political construct. Thats all folks.

But the young people see themselves as welsh, so its only going one way. The gammon are becoming increasingly smaller in influence and much more angry. Its a joy to behold. Let’s have a referendum then, or do we have to wait for the Jocks & Northern Ireland to decide 1st as Welsh people can’t think for themselves? Think you’d find the majority of sane Welsh people would remain part of 🇬🇧

It started off as an urge to sieze power, how has Russia been reacting to the loss of Empire, recently by trying to take some back. How would the USA react if any state (or states) declared they wanted to leave that union. Then look at the EU, trying to build it's own Empire. There is often a lust for power, for control. People (well some of them) have this urge to be remembered through history; unfortnately they are oftenremembered for the wrong reasons. Take Bojo, he will be remembered for a lot of things but will any of them be good? Putin, Trump, will they be remembered in a good way? Xi Jingping may be remembered in a good way inside China but to the rest of the world, China are also trying to expand, to take back what they consider theirs. Once they have that power they don't want to lose it. So here we are 715 years after Edward Longshanks and the ruling elite just do not want to be the remembered as the ones who lost what old eddie conquered.
