It’s the visit of Blackburn,we have been here before, expect passing and running, then more passing and running, and then the visitors sneak a goal, that’s what happens. We are not to be disappointed.

A clash of styles : Swansea City v Blackburn Rovers. Plus Paterson latest 4th Feb 2022 08:57
The evening kick off at the swansea.com stadium tomorrow brings together two sides who couldn’t be further apart. With certain selection issues still pending for Rovers boss Tony Mowbray it looks like we could see a very interesting game based on the style of play alone. 0

Disagree Cabango was fine, Wolfie relied on Pato, instead of doing what he did against Luton, Paterson made a massive difference for 60 mins, but he does seems to gas after 60mins, but he was doing that before his downtime, madness to have taken off Obafemi IMO.

For me it was the right call because Piroe gives more defensively.

Bennet and Cabango played a big part in that second half and deserve a mention.

I think Obafemi would have been a better get out tactic but Martin really went all out defence.
Have to say After Manning went off Paterson was very weak.
Praise all round though .. magnificent rear guard.

Sadly sending off for 2 yellows cannot be reversed only straight reds.

Just watched it back, they really missed some absolute sitters, from where I was you couldn't really tell how close they were. Their fella certainly conned the ref, clutching his face, there should be a course for retrospect action for that, that would be a decent law change.

Disagree massively. you need an out ball when down to ten, its a basic requirement , to take pressure off the 9 men and keeper behind the ball after the sending off, the other team playing against a team down 10 men who will more than likely push everyone forward they can, can't afford to do that with a pacey player like Obafemi.

Blackburn screwed up and will be seething
We got a nice goal by a decent cross and header
That was enough to warm the cockles after the earlier Wales debacle

We rarely dominate games, that's a myth.

Dominating possession is not dominating the game. I can understand people being unhappy in that instance where the issues aren't looked at because of this false notion that ''we dominated - so therefore should have won''.

3 points is what its all about and you have to get it in a way that gives you the best chance to. So far those instances have been few and far between. When we play a mixed style we usually come away with a result.

Luton

72% possession v 28%
16 shots to 13
4 shots on target to 2
2 Big Chances Created v 0
1 save vs 4

Hull
66% poss vs 34%
15 shots vs 5
2 SOT vs 5
2 BC vs 2
0 saves vs 5

QPR
57% poss vs 43
12 shots vs 6
5 SOT vs 2
1 BC vs 1
2 saves vs 5

Preston
57% poss vs 43%
10 shots vs 9
4 SOT vs 1
1 BC vs 1
1 save vs 3

Huddersfield
70% poss vs 30%
18 shots vs 11
11 SOT vs 8
1 BC vs 3
7 saves vs 10

All of the teams named have either been in great form before playing us or a top six side. To assert that us dominating games is a total fabrication and has no basis in reality is quite silly.

I thought you might 😁

I picked up on a comment that Martin made about Oba post match about his goal being a good header and that they had been working on that part of his game. If you’re expecting a bombardment of balls lumped into the box you need your strongest headers on the pitch meeting them.

Pato and/or Wolf should have been the release but they both got too involved in defending deep but we were under pressure and being pushed back.

We did enough to win which would imply that the boss made the right call. Had he left Oba on the pitch he may have given their defence a few things to think about but on the other hand there would have been 8 plus the keeper behind the ball trying to stop them from scoring.

We were down to 10 men, the boss made a call of how to protect the lead and it turned out to be a good call so credit where it’s due well done Russell Martin.

We got the goal and then through a combination of bad finishing and good defending we got the result. We are still bedding in Wolf and Fisher, Pato returned and needs a few games to get back t his best, Naughton is a big miss too. Given all that we should be happy, considering also that Blackburn are second.
There were still too many times when we tried to keep the ball when we should have played it up the pitch and it put us in trouble, Manning and Cabango did it. Instead of a risky ball sideways or backwards, why not a risky ball forwards? Both of them tried to beat a man and got caught out, sometimes you do have to launch it.

It does sometimes feel (on here) like we're not allowed, by some, to mention any negatives but I'm sure the team and the coaching staff will analyse the game and talk about things that weren't right, so why can't we? Praise where it's due but criticism also where its due, why is that not allowed? As long as it's fair of course.

This idea that the only people who criticise don't go to games is wrong. Lets all remember, this is one win, by itself it means little. We need to see these improved performances carrying on and improving more, we need to see more wins and hopefully more goals for us.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

"There were still too many times when we tried to keep the ball when we should have played it up the pitch and it put us in trouble, "

Quite often in the first half we had 4 players pushing their back line and making runs, why no early ball? Sometimes the players need to look up and play a percentage ball instead of playing safe.

I don’t even think it’s an idea is it?

It’s something one of the trolls said at the start of the season and it’s stuck with certain individuals and become one of those myths that never end in a boring circular discussion that everyone knows isn’t true.

There was booing at the Luton game less than 7 days ago, not only reported on here, but reported on the BBC as well as clearly audible via video evidence. Not the first time the boos rang out in the last handful of weeks let alone this season.

Let’s pretend it didn’t happen though to keep the myth alive.

Go to the game = happy.

You are both correct RM went for Piroe for his ariel defensive ability but brings Bennet on. I personally would always leave or bring on the fastest player available to hug the touch line. The only bad out ball then was not hitting space.

Bizarrely Naughton being out probably prompted Martin to go so attack minded and putting Downes I the back 3, he urtually plays there anyway, so allowed us to use both Piroe and Obi. I do like Naughton though.

Cabango got caught on the ball in the first half gifting Blackburn a decent chance , which imo had impact on his thought process because after that he continued to play the ball forward instead of turning back as he did with his cock up .

Agree, Ntcham didn’t look fully fit to me but that was a key run as it made their left CB stop following Obafemi & their left back couldn’t pick him up in time - obviously Pato put in a quality cross for Obafemi to finish well but without Ntcham diagonal run across the front of the left CB I suspect the goal doesn’t happen.

Cabango is not a backward looking player. watch him, with a little space he's looking to pass forwards and did so many times yesterday. He is often in a position where there is no pass on and doesn't force it. He is also one of the few player to make a first touch pass.
He was caught out badly on one occasion but was excellent throughout the game.
Several Cabango passes to Christie didn't reach the target but along with a few from NCham and Grimes the wingback seem disinterested for much of the the half. He had a few good plays and was good in the second half. Both je and NCham looked knackered from the whistle.
I was more concerned with Fisher's passing - he hasn't got to grips with the increased speed Championship forwards close players down.
