| Doing a Kwasi Kwarteng on 12:48 - Sep 27 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | The favourite amongst the members was Kemi Badendoch (probably spelled that wrong) so I’m not sure the Sunak was rejected because of racists narrative carries an awful lot of weight under scrutiny. |
I know she was heavily touted in the Conservative press, but in terms of government has she actually delivered anything?

She plays to the culture war narrative and calls anything she doesn't like woke, which almost certainly guarantees a seat in the cabinet these days

Not particularly but she was the favourite amongst the membership polls. So the insinuation Sunak was binned because he wasn’t white is a complete non starter. Talking of racism the comments coming from that Rupa Huq about Kwarteng being “superficially black” because he went to all the top schools is abhorrent and she should be removed from office immediately. The same thing has been said by lots of people, there are a couple of names for it that are apparently highly offensive in this context (I didn't think they are highly offensive myself but what does a white boyo like me know) I think OJ Simpson was called them. [Post edited 28 Sep 2022 17:54]

I remember a black footballer calling another black footballer "choc ice" meaning black on th outside but white inside. nyone else remember Rio v Ashley? Racist comments can come in all shapes and sizes and often come in comments that the originator denies as being racist. What is most important here is that Kwarteng has done something that has unusually united this board, I haven't seen anybody deny what he and Truss have done is a massive mistake so his colour is completely irrelevant, as it should be. Black or white don't matter, what matters is his total incompetence and that is what will ruin lives.

| Doing a Kwasi Kwarteng on 13:04 - Sep 27 by BryanSwan | I'm sure i had read somewhere that Kwarteng had meetings with hedge fund bosses prior to unveiling the policies. These hedge funds went on to make exorbitant profits. |
His former boss made a killing betting against the pound - Crispin Odey made over 100 million. That’s treason surely

Truss has to somehow turn this move into a strength not a weakness. Her PR team will be working overtime but expect to hear things like she’s strong because she’s not afraid to make big decisions and to recognise when a mistake has been made and able to address it. Something like that. Can’t see her going but if Labour don’t win the next election then frankly they never will.

Right enough. I’ve said before Eton is not a privilege but a hindrance Bankers just gambles with the money of others

Completely untenable. She has to be the lamest of lame duck PM's we've ever had. She campaigned on these poilicies and has to back track on them within 6 weeks after causing financial carnage by implementing them. There'll be somebody new in number 10 by Guy Fawkes night.

| Doing a Kwasi Kwarteng on 19:50 - Sep 26 by GixerJack | With respect it’s not even just the peasant class anymore. Thatcher and her cronies did a fantastic job of flogging off a load of council houses and convincing the people in them that they were middle class because they owned a property. |
I bought mine and not for one moment ever thought I was then or now anything other than working "class"

There have been many 'thick educated fools' in history hence why there have been so many military, political. finacial and economic disasters that were so preventable.

WhT was worse was putting those unable to buy in a position where they would be subjected to the vagaries of new landlords.

after I read the question, I thought "died in office"? so I googled it... Iain Macleod - 30 days (June 20, 1970 - July 20, 1970) Mr Kwarteng is not the shortest-serving chancellor since the office in its current form was established in 1817. Iain Macleod, the Conservative politician, had spent five years as shadow chancellor, but died suddenly only 30 days after entering No 11 as part of Edward Heath's government in 1970.

| Doing a Kwasi Kwarteng on 18:20 - Oct 14 with 647 views | Catullus | I watched him on tv and OK, he's better educated than me but theres no soul or spirit in those eyes. He is a dead zone, devoid of energy, of life. At least Sunak had some go about him. Truss is the same, she has as much charisma as a bag of slugs. There is no joy in her, when she smiles it's like the spider to the fly. Kwarteng doesn't even spell his name right, it's Akwasi apparently. | |
