IF hes not gone by Monday , I have a funny feeling the big debate at the end of the season, is going to be the Jan window or should Manager been sacked
Martin's departure has been a question of when not if from the moment when he put 100% of the blame for our failed Jan transfer window on Leviene - our de facto Chair of the Board. The only time senior managers do that is when they are actively seeking a pay-off. There is no way back for Martin.
Having said that, the Board are not going to reach into their pockets any sooner than they have to. They will have calculated that we are unlikely to go down with the points we have in the bag, so let's keep him on the payroll til the end of the season and just take a hit on the final year of his contract. They may even be hoping he'll walk and then they can split the difference with him, although he could probably have got another job if he'd resigned when the transfer window closed. Now though...
Meanwhile the mood in the dressing room must be awful. Even those players who think he's a poor manager can't help be affected by being managed by a coach who knows he's out of his depth, has no chance of a contract extension and can't see where his next job is coming from.
I do feel a bit sorry for the guy. I believe he genuinely thought he was the next Pep and had lucked upon the secret of football success. It must be tough watching your dreams turn to dust.
I'll tell you what else is tough. Saving up to follow the team you've supported all your life in the middle of a cost of living crisis only to watch them run around like headless chickens. So my sympathy only stretches so far. It's time to go, 'Russ'.

I like his ideology, and I can't think of anyone better to replace him. of course I'd prefer Brendan, Potter, maybe even Cooper, but they're well above us now
You like his ideology, seriously? What he serves up is the slowest, most turgid football I have ever had to watch. His ideology has been keep the ball, pass it around endlessly until the oppo tire then brush them aside except of course we are so slow we never even get the oppo to work up a sweat.
I've seen better Swansea league teams.
I am quite seriously saying that RM's ideology has turned me away from the Swans, until he's gone anyway. I'm not the only one. Martin has to go because he is ruining our team. It's going to take a complete rebuild to get us back on track because by the time he goes our players confidence will be entirely shot to pieces.

It really does surprise me how we still have so many who "believe" in Martins "method" or "project" whatever he calls it nowadays. We start almost every game with only 1 attacking player and with no real width, I cannot for the life of me understand how Martin cannot work out the problems with his set up. It seems so obvious.
I'd agree with you on the second point, I've not gone away this season yet and have only made it down a handful of time. Think I've watched more Cymru Prem/Cymru south games (might be a terrible standard, but they at least show some attcking intent).

I agree with much of what you say, but if they’re going to get rid of him surely now is the time to do it, there’s about 2 months of the season left and the last 11 months will allow the new manager to see the squad and acclimatise in preparation for next season.

It's the excuse RM needs...the world's against him..
The Lino was today.
Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

It’s been said a 1000 times on here before that it’s not for us to choose the next manager but we can all have a say on whether or not the current one is up to the required standard. He’s not.

I said that over a year ago, he'll never ever get to that level, he'll never ever have the players for one thing, those players cost millions not two bob, plus he hasn't got the nouse to carry it off.

Indeed. I wasn't saying what I thought SHOULD happen, but what I think probably WILL happen. I'd love to see a new manager given the rest of this season as well as pre-season to get to know the squad and work out who we need to bring in to become competitive again. But I can't see it happening - whatever you think of our owners, fast, decisive action is not one of their MOs.
But let's be honest - the club is in a mess at pretty much every level. Martin has hand-picked his management team. If he was going on to another job, he'd most likely take them all with him. But if he's just picking up his P45, does the club part with them too and pay them compensation? Or tell the new manager they have to work with Martin's crew?
What about the academy? I've pretty much given up on checking on the youth teams, but my impression is that this season has been much like the last one - they've been forced to play the same way as the senior team and results have been mixed as a result. Can they bounce back under a new Head Coach, or is the damage too serious by now?
I've made my views on Julian Winter clear in previous posts. Never met the man and I may be doing him a big disservice, but people who knew Trevor Birch would tell me how impressed they were with him, and no one has ever told me what a great and principled manager Winter is, so I draw my conclusions accordingly. It seems to me he's given RM everything he ever asked for, with the exception of pulling the rug from under Mark Allen. He reminds me of Major Major Major in Catch 22 if I'm perfectly honest.
Sorry to be so negative, but the phrase 'a fish rots from the head down' springs to mind here.* Getting rid of Martin may be necessary for a turn-around, but I suspect it won't be sufficient.
* Apparently some biologists believe that the intestines are the first part of a fish to start going bad.

(In my opinion) I got the impression that Allen and Martin did not work well together. Martin did not pick Allen's players. Finlay Burns, Ogbeta to name two. Ntcham plays but should be an automatic pick as a World cup Champions league player and only 26. Did Martin usher Allen to the door? Now Allen only has i himself to blame. He has the dance floor to himself and at the minute is looking a like he has had one too many. (we have all been there).
Today if still at the club Allen would be the man determining Martins future. In reality it was possibly the other way around.
I recall young Finlay picking up his shirt from Alan Curtis. Another player that could not have looked any more disinterested. 'Get me out of here asap' similar to Obafemi.
Trevor Birch was in charge when the whole team kneeled in front of a giant BLM logo. This was very lax by Birch. Free branding for a dubious foreign USA based commercial enterprise. An absolute disgraceful error of judgement by Birch.
The academy is performing better than last season. The u21 are turning draws into wins but leaking a lot of goals as discussed by Jasper T. The u18 are better with some good forwards and win and claen sheet today after a hiding last week.
Ideally Swansea would have a new potential manager already in the stands at Luton and at the Liberty earlier in the week assessing the scale of the job ahead of him and advising Jason and Jake exactly what is going wrong in terms of tactics and player roster. This assumes that the owners have a plan of succession and a potential manager already available. They know people in the business people like Guidolin for example with decades of experience.
