The Swans Indy Matchday Thread : Swansea City v Middlesbrough 22/23 AFTERMATH 19:34 - Mar 5 with 11633 viewsNotLoyal

Michael Carrick is up next with a 70% win record : And then there’s Akpom 9th Mar 2023 11:23
Swansea City fans will be hoping Chuba Akpom needs a rest this weekend, the Middlesbrough striker has twenty one goals to his name this season, the best campaign of his career. His goal return has been nothing short of incredible as has been Michael Carrick’s management journey to date. 0

Joe Allen in fitness race and Paterson could make a home return 9th Mar 2023 12:45
This week has seen the Swans without a fixture enabling Russell Martin and his team to assess the Joe Allen muscle pull which he rated as ‘hopefully not too bad’ this week. It’s clear selecting Joe or rushing his inclusion for Saturday will aggravate the injury, so we can expect him to miss the big game against Middlesbrough ( Kick off 3pm ) 0

The pressure is all on Michael Carrick today : Swans v Boro 11th Mar 2023 10:00
A big crowd is expected today for the championship clash between Swansea City and Middlesbrough at the swansea.com stadium. Boro are top of the table on current form and coach Michael Carrick’s is yet to experience any downturn in his clubs on the pitch performances since taking over the reigns on Teesside. 0

Second half disaster for error strewn Swansea City 11th Mar 2023 16:59
Swansea City slumped to their sixth defeat in nine games since exiting the FA Cup to Bristol City in mid January this afternoon at the Swansea.com stadium. Middlesbrough were one down at half time but whatever was going through the Swansea players minds in the second half is beyond comprehension. A Jay Fulton goal ruled out for office started the drama as Boro made short work of a poor Swansea defence. 2

First goal I thought was definitely offside the second was marginal but probably OK. The penalty was a stupid challenge. Personally I thought we were a lot better today, but that's not saying a lot. Fulton was our best player by a country mile IMO.

First goal was definitely onside. When the ball was played to Ramsey he was inside his own half. Clear as day on the replay.

Second goal, Ntcham played him onside.

They were both well on side.

I think Fisher could have come out for their first. I’d need to see it again but I was expecting to see him appear and put it out. He should have been standing on his 18 yd box line which should h@ve made it easy for him to challenge. I think.

Second one completely down to N’tcham. He just watched it fall into the scorers head. Fisher shouldn’t be blamed too much for that but there’s an argument he could have stepped out and claimed it.

The third. Latibeaudiere brain fart. Again!

Fair enough

That's fair enough I was on the halfway line and thought he was over it. But I stand corrected.

Just seen Martin`s interview and had to turn it off after a couple of minutes.

Just listened to Martin's post-match press conference. The usual deluded rubbish about bravery and being oh so close to everything clicking. But what really had me shouting at the laptop was the 'journalist' whose idea of an opening question was along the lines of 'oh Russell, you must be so sad, a goal up and nearly getting a second, playing wonderful football, just how great are you?' Jesus wept.

I dare say this has been discussed elsewhere but I haven’t seen it. Can someone tell me why Martin was allowed in the dugout today? I thought a red banished him to the stands for at least one game.

He’s appealed and the hearing is on Monday, apparently.

its pretty fair to say he has given it a go to do things the way he wanted but its not working out, and defo at a point where its clear that this approach doesn't work for this group. best part of 2 seasons and very few signs of anything approaching progress.

i think all the personal nonsense about him is irrelevant, until told otherwise its his job to continue backing himself and his team. its just time for him to be told otherwise.

what is clear and disappointing is we are about to enter yet another rebuilding phase and setting out a new direction with increasingly less resource, and probably less fans! 4th one since relegation and for the first time I would be entertaining that a bad move now (with players leaving etc) could see League 1 beginning to loom.

He doesn’t seem to think he will get a ban, just a fine.

I see a separation by mutual consent in the Summer. The club is making no progress. The transfer window was irrelevant. A strong 18 man squad with hardly any injuries is not progressing.

Not convinced about the strong squad part. We’ve used the fewest players by team in the division this season. This combined with the squad ability to manager ability ratio hasn’t helped the cause.

We certainly did, left ourselves open to the counter attack from corners yet again instead of making sure we kept the 1 goal lead.
Even after that we left ourselves one on one in the defence when they pushed 4 players up for their goal kicks, took a number of their goal kicks before we realised and Fulton dropped back. Captains job is to organise his players on the pitch.

Lastly general our marking is abysmal giving their players all the time they need to receive the ball and decide what they want to do with it.
Too far away then sprinting to make the gap up only for them to push the ball passed for themselves or the one two return pass.
Then sprinting to chase the player, resulting in our players struggling by the end of the game and eventually pulling muscles after having to work so hard.
A properly organised press and getting closer to players around the pitch to reduce the player on the ball options, we are set up to do neither, dropping to deep or pushing too high causing absolute chaos in our ranks.

Strange going to a game where you don't expect to win, then leave the ground not that disappointed when we do.

That's where I'm at now.

Apathy, I can't believe the stands are shouting "we want Martin out" or "sacked in the morning". No other manager on such a run would be let off as lightly.

Bit of a typo, I can't believe our fans aren't calling for the manager to go.
Is that due to the Swansea end being empty long before the final whistle?

Yesterday was always going to be tricky

It’s hard to boo when the players seem to be giving it everything but if RM had come across things might have been different

We’re a poor team now, and we weren’t when he took over.
He has to be held accountable at some point surely??

This is Patches O'Houlihan saying "Take care of your balls, and they'll take care of you."

Definitely. But the supporters feel we are helpless to change anything.
