I think we should stick to our original name derived from the original settlement by the Norsemen in 8th century.
Abertawe is purely a description Welsh name first used in 11th century. We should not abolish our heritage to appease a tiny majority of Welsh Nationalist fanatics.

Actually ,I think this thread should be taken down S it makes the club,itās fans look stupid ,backward and shallow . Considering our ownership, we seem more bothered by this crap.

Currently 46 in favour of changing to Dinas Abertawe, 36 against.
Continually being banned by Planet Swans for Porthcawl and then being reinstated.

I can't believe the contents of this thread Majority in favour of football suicide
Best taken with a pinch of salt. As Iāve said before, regardless of any scrutinisation, this poll is not representative of Swansea fans. It wouldnāt be close in reality.

It's a bona fide scoreline, how representative is this board of Swansea City supporters in general ? I would say this board is more right wing than the Swansea supporter base, I would say this board is more unionist than the Swansea supporter base, if my assumption is correct then it's a very interesting scoreline as imo opinion Swansea supporters are less right wing and less unionist than this board, so Swansea supporters might well be in favour of their club being called Dinas Abertawe.

I am more about achievement rather political posturing (on both side) . There is little desire in the wide fan base for the whole club to change its name and things in Wales get done by consensus and agreement.
This is why i focussed my proposal on the Women's team. There is an identity confusion at the moment as I have explained. I go to Newsnow Swansea to get all up to date stories on the men's team. I do not want to scroll through a half a page of female news. Some of the headline are not gender specific and there are forces which want amalgamation.
I prefer the women's team to act as a separate unit with a separate name. I do not want to have to refer to the Swansea city MENS team.

Its pointless gesturing, Swansea City Football Club should and and will stay as it is, its a brand name.
Any team of any gender or age which currently play under that brand should and will stay the same, without doubt.
Coalman seems to be working hard to promote the Swansea City Ladies Team so its virtually 100% guaranteed that the name of that team won't change and rightly so.
This thread as no significance other than to create a discussion.

You don't know there is little desire to change the name of the club over to it's Welsh name as it fly's in the face of this poll on this Swansea supporters site.

Pro Welsh fans should focus more on what is achievable in the short term not what is not achievable. I put up that the women's teams should be know as 'Dinas Abertawe' and gave good reasons including practical ones.
Yours is an aspirational target with no chance of happening in the short term.

It's not my gig but it is very achievable if the powers that be wanted to do it, a lot of voters on this site would like to see Swansea City change to Dinas Abertawe per the poll.

Much more than that if you count all supporters and not just regulars, very interesting poll on this site that seems to have surprised some people the amount of votes Dinas Abertawe (or similar) have got.

If they did change the name, here's one ST holder that won't be renewing.
Anyway ! I'm looking forward to rainbow laces tomorrow.
Morning flash I mentioned this before. From what I can recall of folks back home,Abertawe FC would be ridiculed out of hand. We are letting a few insular Indys take over . Not on my watch they wonāt. We have dumarased owners who are up to God knows what yet to even contemplate thread like this is pretty worrying .
I did see S4 C featuring Penybont v Y Bala. Is this what they want for our club. Away days in Bala are very nice when itās warm enough to swim in the lake though . Connah s Quay ā¦.well you could overnight in Chester ( England though)
Glad so many want to embrace their heritage and push for growth of their language but it does seem a bit stupid to get rid of a name of that had become a global brand highlighting your country, oh sorry as a country we have already done that with Brecon and Snowdonia. Are we only trying to attract the well educated money or do we want to attract everyones to a nation that cannot govern the tourist industry to it fully potential while protecting its communities, or are we as individuals quite happy to sellout and make a profit on the old family home while destroying those communities and hence the heritage, sorry I digress. Quite happy to support the heritage that Swansea City Football club that has been built instead of trying to rewrite it's history, the very thing which some have rightly accused others of doing in the past with regard to nations history but are now trying to do themselves with regards to the clubs.

Sense. If people want to learn welsh then great . Many however donāt . That simple. Nobody should feel in any obliged ,intimidated or press ganged into doing so. It is outrageous in fact. This argument has been raging for decades and itās a subject where sentiment and passion puts way common sense . Every fan of every club in the country would be ridiculing our club. Dewy eyed nationalism ensures this canāt be perceived though . The language matters to fewer than some realise and worldwide its novelty value at best . Yanks are thrilled to see and hear it ,bless them,as they queue for the Snowdonia railway ticket paid for in English currency . We need to expand and market our club and this aināt the way brothers and sisters .
