Should we change our name to the Welsh version? on 09:56 - Nov 25 by RichardO
Glad so many want to embrace their heritage and push for growth of their language but it does seem a bit stupid to get rid of a name of that had become a global brand highlighting your country, oh sorry as a country we have already done that with Brecon and Snowdonia. Are we only trying to attract the well educated money or do we want to attract everyones to a nation that cannot govern the tourist industry to it fully potential while protecting its communities, or are we as individuals quite happy to sellout and make a profit on the old family home while destroying those communities and hence the heritage, sorry I digress. Quite happy to support the heritage that Swansea City Football club that has been built instead of trying to rewrite it's history, the very thing which some have rightly accused others of doing in the past with regard to nations history but are now trying to do themselves with regards to the clubs.
Do they realise the Cardiff supporters will say that Dinas Abertawe have never played in the Premier League or won a cup and they would be correct.

Sense. If people want to learn welsh then great . Many however don’t . That simple. Nobody should feel in any obliged ,intimidated or press ganged into doing so. It is outrageous in fact. This argument has been raging for decades and it’s a subject where sentiment and passion puts way common sense . Every fan of every club in the country would be ridiculing our club. Dewy eyed nationalism ensures this can’t be perceived though . The language matters to fewer than some realise and worldwide its novelty value at best . Yanks are thrilled to see and hear it ,bless them,as they queue for the Snowdonia railway ticket paid for in English currency . We need to expand and market our club and this ain’t the way brothers and sisters .
UK Sterling is British not English. The Bank of England issues GBP.
Swansea is not just another lower league team in the English system. It is 10 % owned by the fans, Welsh fans. Unfortunately they have followed traditional Welsh traits of infighting and distrust of foreigners.
We do not need to worry if very dim English people cannot say Abertawe. That is their problem. You left the land and think like and Englishman and worry about what English people think of us. I do not care about that.
Swansea city is a Welsh / US owned operation. The MENS team play in the EFL and the WOMENS team play in the Genaro Adran.

But they will.
More and more primary school children throughout wales are now educated through yr iaith cymraeg. Thats a fact.
The rest will leave with conversational skills.
Our name will one day be CPD Dinas Abertawe. Inevitable. Just a matter of when.
National team is already Cymru.
Beware of the Risen People

If they did change the name, here's one ST holder that won't be renewing.
Anyway ! I'm looking forward to rainbow laces tomorrow.
Imagine the supporters of Woolwich Arsenal or Newton Heath LYR had said that ? How different history might have been for those two teams without their supporters ? I think the people who care about the club would moan and groan but ultimately would support the club as long as it was still "Our Club" However, therein lies another discussion...

With respect Sir, their names were not changed because of language , which is the issue for some We should be more concerned with the owners, coach, players and fans who are unhappy in any either language .

Official? What is official about it Keith?
Well, all polls are not an opinion until they reach 100 legitimate votes. Official means it’s official to this website, and could well be sent to the media, the club or any other outlet.
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Trust me, we are going to be a laughing stock.
As I e pointed out I thought this topic was a wind up. A laugh. The fact any at all think this is a good idea shows we have issues. With all the other matters that should bother us,this abject crap should be dismissed out of hand However, seems some would rather our derby be at Port Talbot or Carmarthen . At least it d be all in Welsh . Crazy
