| Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan : Be owners, take ownership and own this problem ! on 08:13 - Aug 22 with 2859 views | Dr_Parnassus | Ian Walsh comes across as a bit confused. What exactly is he advocating? They have spent £8m in the last 12 months. More than any other 12 month period in our football league history. Is he wanting them to plunge the club into debt and keep throwing money at him until he decides he’s finally happy? I don’t understand this latest push to put the blame on the owners in the last 48 hours. I’m not their biggest fans, they have made mistakes such as not backing Cooper in January and also the Bob Bradley disaster… But other than that they have been pretty good owners and would rather them running the club sensibly as opposed to someone like Vincent Tan who the club are entirely on life support with should he ever decide to call in his debts. It seems to me that people just can’t bring themselves to finally admit Martin is not the manager some wanted him to be. I guess Ian Walsh is in that camp too now. | |

Putting the emphasis on the real owners and decision makers of the club to’ make a decision is the main thrust. That is a decision, not just a financial one.

Martin’s comments have landed on stoney ground with the fans looking around various places. A lot of fans seeing through them as the ‘passing the buck’ exercise that it clearly is. Martin is on shaky ground with the owners due to his performance and he knows it, he even said it in the interview “the owners won’t be happy with me saying that”. Transfers in Obafemi Piroe Allen Ntcham Darling Fisher Downes Wood Sorinola Joseph Pato Walsh Ogbeta Wolf Williams Laird Christie Burns Transfers Out Downes Roberts Lowe Bidwell Byers The bloke has had far more than most managers. We are in the top 6 spenders in the league. In the last 2 seasons there are 3 teams who have spent ZERO, they are all above us. He needs to get a grip and you are right, the owners need to make a decision now and push the button. Sell Piroe, finance a manager who can take the group forward.

| Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan : Be owners, take ownership and own this problem ! on 08:40 - Aug 22 with 2799 views | PawelAbbott | Martin has had 2 full transfer windows to bring in players he wants. We have spent a few million on players in that time. He has shipped out pacey attacking players who have played in the first team and replaced them with players who couldn't make the grade in the Juniper league. Our recruitment strategy makes less sense than the team tactics. How many defensive players do we need? Why bring in players on high fees, with contracts running down and then not play them at all. Why remove all width and pace from the squad? | | | |

You can’t bring in a player like Fisher for £400k or whatever it was, plus all the agents fees and singing on fees… increase his salary x10, and then complain the kitty is empty. Especially when you have more than a competent keeper already at the club. Nothing against Fisher, he’s okay. We just didn’t need him. It’s excuses stacked on top of excuses stacked on top of excuses. He’s done with the bus journeys, the length of the grass, the lack of a break, the existence of a break, the players, the fans, the age of the team… it’s now the owners turn despite being given the benefit of record spending for us at this level. One day he may just take responsibility… one day.

We didn't need Fisher and probably didn't need Darling and Wood. We have other urgent areas in the squad that needed addressing. Squad was full of competent goalkeepers and central defenders, but woefully short out down the flanks. Look at Nick Pope yesterday, excellent shot stopper, but didn't pass out short yesterday, kicked long on nearly every occasion. What posters are asking on here is to play to the strength of the players and a system to get the best results.

He’s a director. And he’s most certainly remains one of the board who continues to speak when it suits. At the forefront of everything since 2016. Stepping back means nothing other than to relinquish responsibility for decision making. Nothing has changed. He is still in control. And his position within the ownership group remains.

In the recent programme Huw Jenkins and Martin Morgan were listed as directors. I knew they still have shares but do they have any say in the running of the club?

Companies House shows 'Termination of appointment of Steve Kaplan as a director on 21 September 2020' and 'Cessation of Stephen Kaplan as a person with significant control on 21 September 2020'. [Post edited 22 Aug 2022 11:14]

Following the logic through, he (Martin) has basically said 'I am not going to achieve anything this season other than mid table mediocrity but it's not my fault, it's the fault of the owners because they won't give me the players I need'. So what's his game plan? Hang on in there and hope that something changes before the start of next season? Even if you take what he said at face value as being the pure, unvarnished truth, it wouldn't reflect very well on in him if he stays in post knowing that this will be another wasted season, would it?

Indeed. And he remains a director and joint ‘owner’ of Swansea City. Obviously continued to be referred to as such. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/62626041 Even though he said he was stepping down from being one. Had he not been involved any longer he wouldn’t have been mentioned in the article. It’s well documented the information from last year. And none of it made a blind bit of difference. Even today. https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/ex-swan-says-american I think we were swizzled by words which shows the contempt some of these people have for the fans Jasper.

Well, on behalf of Kaplan and Levien yes. But of course not without their consent. Let’s be honest if they were at the club they would be doing Winters job and there wouldn’t be any need for his stupid sized salary.

Sounds like Ian Walsh is getting confused between owners of Swansea City (a long list of shareholders) and people actually running the company. Might as well demand the Trust march in and sort things out, they're owners too. With a token director position. Kaplan is officially no longer a director and simply has money in the company that owns the majority of shares, along with Levein, some lawyers and a handful of minor celebrities. Levein, Silverstein and Winter seem like the trio actually making decisions these days. Silverstein was in Swansea recently, so Walsh is moaning about nothing and making himself sound pretty silly with his "get back on their horses and get back to the States" twaddle.

| Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan : Be owners, take ownership and own this problem ! on 08:13 - Aug 22 by Dr_Parnassus | Ian Walsh comes across as a bit confused. |
I saw your stats regarding the list of championship clubs spending I think we were 8th. Any chance you could put this up alongside sales as well. It's a bit like saying you bought a house for 300k after selling your old old one for 250k Whilst a new buyer recently bought one for 250k without one to sell. Thete needs to be a net spend column in the stats column And to say the sales don't matter is just painting a picture to suit. Not sticking up for Russ here by the way but sales need to be taken into consideration. An example we have sold Downes 9 million Rodon 11 approx. Going further back Mcburnie and James 35m approx combined. Lots of championship clubs have not received these types of fees. Just listing spending only tells half the story mate.
