This is why so many people push back on the removal of language by activists, it never ends. It’s about power and control.
I saw one of their conventions, it was like a comedy skit.
First off someone stood at the front to give a speech. Before they could even get going someone put their hand up and said:
“Point of personal privilege, there is too much chatter going on in the room guys, it’s not being very thoughtful to those who are prone to sensory overload”.
The speaker said thank you comrade, and continued the speech. Half a sentence later, we had another man raise his hand:
“Point of personal privilege, to the last person who asked a question, can we please stop using gendered language!”
The speaker again thanked the man and continued. He managed to get a sentence out to where he received an applause for one of the mind numbingly stupid liberal thing he said… someone then raised their hand:-
“Point of personal privilege, again can we be mindful of those prone to sensory overload and instead of clapping can we all please raise our hands and wiggle our fingers like jazz hands in order to show our appreciation”.
They all proceeded to put their jazz hands in the air.
It’s barmy, and to avoid being seen as a bigot, normal people buy into this stuff.

I said I wouldn't do it and in future I'd just ignore then or just put my hand up

It's a weird one where people draw their line on certain topics. For me biologically a man is always a man and a woman a woman. However if someone wants to be called whatever then so be it, just like changing you name thats fair enough. If it makes them happy why not just call them what they want?
