‘14 months of shaving’.

Really? I buy a box of 10 blades and one stick, at best they last one month, ten months with a box of 10.

Am I being robbed of 4 months shaving, or doing something wrong? I should point out, used purely for facial shaving and once a day.

You're probably shaving more often than their estimate is allowing for.

I'm about every 2.5 days since I partially gave up on personal grooming, and your average young marketing hipster probably shaves every 8 weeks, if at all.

In your shoes I'd give myself a pat on the back for maintaining standards and write them a firm email with a couple of charts and graphs included.

The Philips OneBlade Pro is one of the best things I ever bought. I always struggled with various types of shavers and blades but I’ve had my OneBlade about 7 years now and had no problems. I shave about twice a week so have to buy the replacement blades every 18 months or so. Not the cheapest option but been great for me.

It's all utter marketing bollox!

You see these adverts and maybe it's just me, but surely I'm not the only one that thinks: taking off the top parts of a hair with the first few blades of the razor is neither here nor there because the all important final blade you see in the adverts, actually shaves the hair at the point it protrudes from the skin.

Just give me a razor with that last blade in you caaaants, because clearly the other three or four are superfluous to the actual task in hand namely, shaving the hair at the root!!

As I'm retired, I only shave twice a week, more if I am going somewhere a shave is warranted. After three days it does need a good hack and I've found little or no difference between a stupidly expensive gimmicky product and a bumper back of cheaper Gillette or Wilkinson Sword disposables do me rightly.

I wanted to get a cut throat, but I rarely see the Peaky Blinder blades on sale over here.

Now, we're on the subject: Where do we stand on shaving gel/cream? For me, has to be King of Shaves, every 'kin time!!

I agree but I dont use any shaving foam or cream but just use some soap and foam it up and seem to get the same result as using shaving foam but for half the price of it.

Was on a golf trip a while back. I was still using a brush and the old green Palmolive stick, now discontinued, and it caused quite a stir.

About 17-18 of us in a villa, all of them crowded into my bathroom to have a look at what shaving was like in a previous century. Still get some shit about that.

Anyway, gone the gel route now. Works well but not sure if gel or foam canisters last the longest. That’s my next project.

Stop shaving every day is indeed the answer. Why bother wasting your time with that when you could be on here bitching about QPR.

Once a weeks suffices for me.

I'd be amazed if it hasn't been tried and I just haven't seen it, but there must be a market for that old school shaving stick and brush.

The two sided razor you used to screw open and closed is probably massively illegal now but they were good bits of solid engineering too.

Just don't shave until QPR win 5 games on the trot (not done since the early 00's) and you can become an irrelevant tw@t on social media.

I haven't found a brand yet where the blades outlast the rechargeable battery. That's always the first thing to go.

Just got back from the Turkish barber In town, bloke's cutting me hair (military style short back and sides), his colleague comes over to borrow something out of his cupboard and I say to his colleague, ''Is that your music playing''? (Arabic type of music) he says ''yes'' and I say ''well It's shit''.
Oh dear the whole shop falls virtually silent as I've somehow unwittingly offended the Nation of Turkey.
After a ten second lull everything goes back to normal and I pay my £15 and get to fck out of there.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

I miss the old shaving mug and brush. Before shaving you put hot water on your face to soften the beard and open the pores and then apply cold gel or foam from an aerosol can.

Prefer foam.

I had a Turkish shave in Istanbul years ago. The barber placed a tea towel in a Pyrex bowl, poured boilng water over it and then placed it directly on my face. Such a relief when he finally removed it, unfortunately he repeated the process. Wife thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

Exactly, all marketing BS.

I shave every day given I get 12 o'clock shadow, never mind 5 o'clock. I use disposable razors which can last a couple of weeks each. Gillette bog standard shaving cream or gel. Done.

I’ve been expecting mine to wear out but I still get 5 or 6 full shaves before having to recharge. Like I said I’ve had it for at least 7 years I think.

Has anyone found any good alternatives to Gillette?

I've been with Gillette all my life but I want to get away from using American brands. I went to go buy a Bulldog razor the other day as it's a British company but upon research found out it's now owned by Americans. So if anyone knows of a good company with the money staying in Europe let me know as I'm currently using a 99p razor which is not great.

I don't have any issues with Gillette razor blades, or funnily enough, any that are blue. It's the yellow ones that I wouldn't recommend, unless you are wanting to erase your face.

Try a Muhle R41, a Nacet razor blade, a synthetic shaving brush and Martin de Candre Fougere shaving soap. Baby bottom smooth shaves.

Wilkinson Sword, buy British Although, er, actually owned by Energizer. And manufactured in Germany!

I use their Xtreme 3 disposable razors which are pretty good.

In my experience, the Braun electric razors give excellent service. I'm actually using one of my dad's cast-offs and it has done the business for over six years, with one, perhaps two, changes of blade. I shave every other day on average.

On the rare occasions that I shave I still use the shaving soap that comes in a wooden bowl, a natural bristle brush and a Gillette Blue II. Had that shaving soap for about 15 years now, still going strong. Never found a better blade than the Blue II either. That combo gives me a super smooth shave and costs eff all. Plus I'm well eco friendly compared to you cants using aerosol foam!

Another vote for Wilkinson Sword Xtreme 3. Very good disposable razors at a reasonable price, and if you keep an eye out there's usually a deal to be had.

FWIW I shave every other day and 1 razor will last 1-2 months. My preference is gel over foam but only because quite a few foam cans I've bought have given up the ghost. I wouldn't go back to Gillette now. Vastly overrated and overpriced.

Get yourself a safety razor and some packs of razor blades and you'll save yourself a fortune.

This is the one I use. They're not made in China like everything seems to be these days, they're made in Sheffield and it's a great razor. Costs just under thirty quid, pack of blades are cheap as chips and you're not contributing to landfill like you do with a razor with 'disposable' blades.
