I honestly have come out of that game with more confidence and positivity than beating Portsmouth 6-1.
Yes, we only got a point against a newly promoted team at home, but I do honestly think that was a very enjoyable watch, and the signs of a potential real good team there.
I am struggling to think of the last time I watched us dominate a game like that, and for the first time in my life I didn't feel like my heart was going to fall out my chest whenever we played out from the back.

I’d have liked to try and get Kone and Burrell in the team and wondered if they would go 442 when subs came on, not sure you can drop Chair after 2 goals, 1 assist and MOM though. |  | | |

Yes the guy next to me was really peed off, we couldn't score and kept predicting Bolton to snatch the win.
Was a decent performance, but you just got the feeling we were never destined to score today.

We looked decent today, plus a bit more strength in depth. Everyone played well, we just couldn't finish. Mbengue has improved his crossing, Edwards looks comfortable in the CDM role and probably my MoM. Dunne and Clarke Salter are solid CB pairing. Good to see Salter make it through another game without breaking.
The subs, the swap of four on, four off didn't really help momentum, and i thought Madsen struggled with the pace of the game at 60 minutes, I'm not sure you can class him as an impact sub, but great to see him back on the pitch. But it was good to see the new lads play, Cirkin looked comfortable at this level. Adamson done well first half though. Not that our keeper had much to do today but i thought Pierce Charles is like having an extra outfield player spraying the ball around, especially first half.
Also great seeing Chair back doing Chair things, great player for us.
If we're gonna do damage this season, then we need to take our chances and we didnt today. |  |

That's all well and true, but I think the point is we have seen plenty of 0-0 against poor opposition where we have been completely devoid of ideas. Today wasn't that, we played well, didn't look like conceding and created plenty of chances - yes we have to take them and if we want to be in the playoffs we have to beat newly promoted teams.
It feels like we have a style of play that works, it's not just pretty, we are creating lots of chances - that is important. Finishing them is more important of course, but creating them and minimising opposition chances shows promise for the season ahead.
Their keeper had a good day, they defended with lots of last ditch tackles - we should have won, didn't - it was still a good performace. | |

All the positive comments are largely true but the fact remains that once again we couldn’t beat a team (or even score a goal) where we dominated possession. Given we are actually likely to have much more possession this season, that’s a problem. I said before the match that this game had Preston at home last season vibes to me, and whilst we undoubtedly have a much better squad now, we still have the same old problems. For all our control a lot of it was in fairly unthreatening territory. Kone should have scored when clean through and Vale should have scored with the header but it wasn’t like their keeper’s saves were brilliant.
Am on the fence really - lot of genuinely encouraging, pleasant play but at home against lesser teams who sit back, when will we actually break one down? | | | |

We played well but the fluidity from last week was missing , slow build up at time charles slower to release the ball when He had a ball over the top, kone scores the second chance we win it by a few goals today , chair back to his best saito did well Edwards superb again in the middle , only down vote is vale for me , hes got ability but hes on his heels a lot so slower to react
Would have been nice if Kamara hadn’t got an Impact injury before the game but hey it was always coming didn’t think taking mbengue off was right he had a good game and we did lack something going forward when He went off. Wasn’t a fan of his but so far this season the voices in his head don’t seem so loud and he’s been very good in both boxes , |  |

An easy game, there are no easy games in this league!! That is some of the best football Ive seen at LR in donkies, there keeper made a hatfull of goal bound saves, how Ive no idea and then count the amount of times a boot or body managed to just push the ball out past there goal. Sometimes you do just need a bit of luck, and we never got it, but play like that and we will be in the play offs period. |  | | |

Agree, I think we looked pretty decent. If we can keep Lamptey and Cirkin fit then we could really have something going. I enjoyed Lamptey's cameo and Cirkin looks a proper Championship player. Adamson has certainly looked better the last two games but fact remains in the first half especially he was caught badly out of position at least twice and Bolton were clearly targeting him. Cirkin looks to have nous and presence.
Disappointed with Kone, of course, who really should have done better with at least one of the chances. He does seem even slower than last year and I have such high hopes for him this season. Hopefully he can get up to speed.
It wasn't one of those games where we were devoid of ideas. The good thing with playing Edwards in midfield (excellent game, I thought) is that he can pass too and we then have Vale, Chair and Edwards all capable of providing that match winning moment.
Not bad at all, but it does create that awful thing where I am fancying us to go to Blackburn and win. Rarely does that end well. |  | | |

The difference between the Bolton game and others from last season, such as Oxford, is that we created loads of chances. Last season we couldn't create chances and didn't threaten teams.
I know xG is dismissed by some, but yesterday our was over 2. We keep doing that and we are going to smash some teams.

Some credit should go to Bolton for their defensive resilience. They achieved what they came to do and made it very difficult for us to break them down.
Nonetheless, we should have won and we'll need to sharpen up if other teams decide to play like Bolton against us.

I’m as disappointed as everyone else that we didn’t secure a well deserved win BUT it’s game two - we look significantly better prepared than last season; we look much fitter; Cirkin and Lamptey are featuring a few weeks ahead of expectation; Madsen hasn’t really featured; Kone and Burrell still getting up to speed - and we’re still fourth, our attacking play until the finish looks really fast and fluid
LOTS to be pleased with - Poku and Chair are like new signings - Bolton and Portsmouth won their other games so none of this “we played sh1t teams” nonsense. | | | |
