I honestly have come out of that game with more confidence and positivity than beating Portsmouth 6-1.
Yes, we only got a point against a newly promoted team at home, but I do honestly think that was a very enjoyable watch, and the signs of a potential real good team there.
I am struggling to think of the last time I watched us dominate a game like that, and for the first time in my life I didn't feel like my heart was going to fall out my chest whenever we played out from the back.

Only the second game of the season and already we can see the makings of a proper side, a side that can challenge in this division, at last. Never troubled in defence, keeper looks exceptional, great movement, passing, plenty of chances... on another day we win that 3-0. No complaints from me.

No real complaints from me, played pretty well. Contrary to many, I understand why Edwards has played in midfield but Edwards is not a midfield player, he does OK there.
I am more annoyed that we missed 'so many' good chances to score. Left the game a frustrated person thinking we should have won the game comfortably. | | | |

Dunne again solid
Cirkin looks a very good buy his passing was spot on and quick , we have found ourselves a player here , no more crap left backs to endure which is nice

Be critical by all means but it is hard on the players to criticize them......they played well overall generally, they worked their 'socks off', created some very decent opportunities for several different players throughout the match BUT we did not finish very good chances.
Finish those chances, and many were very scoreable, and we are like 'dogs on heat' & all 'happy bunnies'. | | | |

All the positive comments are largely true but the fact remains that once again we couldn’t beat a team (or even score a goal) where we dominated possession. Given we are actually likely to have much more possession this season, that’s a problem. I said before the match that this game had Preston at home last season vibes to me, and whilst we undoubtedly have a much better squad now, we still have the same old problems. For all our control a lot of it was in fairly unthreatening territory. Kone should have scored when clean through and Vale should have scored with the header but it wasn’t like their keeper’s saves were brilliant.
Am on the fence really - lot of genuinely encouraging, pleasant play but at home against lesser teams who sit back, when will we actually break one down? |
Agree with this. We do seem to have this monkey on our back regarding dominating teams and not winning games.........think as Clive said it as been nearly 2 years since we have done this
As this is all DATA driven I'm sure the teams and JS know this. I'm also sure that once we do win dominating games the flood gates will eventually open..............hopefully
Thought we looked really good in the first half as I said at HT thought some of our football was lovely...........the 4 subs at once was a strange one, seemed to me to be a pre-planned thing, and it certainly I thought didn't help the cause

Ipswich were promoted automatically last season having drawn 15 games. They drew three of their first four matches, twice at home, and lost the other away at Preston.
Coventry drew 11 games last season as Champions. In fact ,they too drew their first home game 0-0, against Hull. Of their first six games, they drew four times, including matches against Oxford and Leicester who would both be relegated.
Hull won once in their first five, including a 0-3 v Blackburn.
Made no difference that they dropped those points against teams both the eventual top two should have beaten. If you can't win, accumulate a point and move on. Nothing is decided by a draw in August, September or October as is well documented.
