Thought he had a great game last night, though tired towards the end. Much better in the air than Kone (who I also like) and he has definitely improved in the time he has been away. He was always a decent sub to run around and hassle tired defenders but now he seems less raw and a lot more aware of what's going on around him. Obviously, needs to work on his finishing but I can totally see why they've extended his contract and why he started last night. Still hope we'll see Kolli again too.

His energy and relentless pressing help Burrell in a way that I don't think any of our other forwards can.

Shouldn't we have faith in our coaches' ability to improve him? He's got plenty of attributes.

Perhaps he'll be like Madsen, who went from being an absolute passenger to the most influential player in the team.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."

Sometimes a player tries too hard when he is trying to establish him within a squad/team. Can happen with all great sportsmen too. Kevin Pietersen for example in his first test series, the Ashes one of 2005 he dropped numerous chances and it was put down to his over keenness to make his mark. Lloyd is now showing all the attributes of a potentially very good striker be it first or second choice. He has the right attitude without doubt and he does have a decent ability to control the ball. Their keeper made one great save off him last night, a chance he created himself and with a little bit more streetwise within him he would have gone down for a penalty in the first half but instead stayed on his feet to try and get a shot away. The more exposure to this league he gets the better he will become.

Excellent performance last night and tbf far more experienced players were guilty of some horrific misses last night, Vale, Saito Dunne and Chair should all at least hit the target. Burrell gets a pass cos he scored 2, but could have had 4

nobody nows it for a fact but the diff is hes playing every week and the other option last got injured in the warm up for the left overs in a dev game, so hes doing something right otherwise he wouldnt be getting on the bench and getting decent time on the pitch , funnily enough same as the end of last season when they was both on the bench and lloyd got on the pitch ahd plan b didnt .

the main diff between the two is if we are protecting a lead lloyd comes on and keeps the oppostion deper than kolli can manage as he will chase back get involved the other option dosnt hep when he looses the ball hands on hips have a winge it wasnt his fault and the oppostion are then pushing us back for the rest of the game , but yes his goals stats are very good when he does get fit and play

Wombat you are wrong when you refer to last season. Alfie was at Leyton Orient from August to January and Lincoln for the second half of the season.

Either way I think a big difference between Lloyd and Kolli is that Lloyd is almost always available when he is here, and works hard when he gets the chance. Kolli's availability is patchy at best and when he does play he can be a bit of a passenger. Great finisher when he gets the chance but he doesn't offer anything like the pace or physicality Alfie does.

Love Alfie for all his effort, endeavour and enthusiasm, but he has one of the most juxtaposing skillsets I've ever seen in a Footballer.

As mentioned on a previous thread he absolutely has a role to play in the Squad this Season coming on to close out games when we're ahead and being a nuisance to tiring defences, but should never be starting. For me he fails the eye test every time he plays, he stumbles through his ball carrying and I'm quite often in disbelief at how poor he is technically playing at Championship level. He is also so reactive to what's going on around him that the phase of play is over before he realises what he should be doing in it.

Still, the Club are willing to work with him based on the strengths and his athleticism cannot be coached but the other stuff can, but at 23 he's got to improve fast. I can see him being a Nicolas Jackson type player who is quite untidy to watch but an absolute nightmare to play against.

Yes if only we could combine Kolli's finishing with Lloyd's work rate and physicality, we'd have a hell of a player!

At 23 I think he still has plenty of time. If he hits his real prime at 25, is that measurably worse? Obviously we want him to be performing now, but 25 is no age at all

A good player in there and just needs a goal to build his confidence. Has pace to terify defenders. If he can improve inside the box, and he will, no reason why he cannot go on to be a very good striker at this level. Needs to really work hard in training.

If the Club keeps going in the right direction I think we'll naturally move on from him by the time he is 25, I'm sure we're not pinning any hopes on him becoming a 15-20 goal a season striker.

For now his physicality and athleticism is definitely an asset, but the technical side is so unnatural and subpar for a 23 year old at a Championship Club that it's going to take a dramatic improvement to get to an even reasonable level.

If you take his 2 League One loans as a sample size, Leyton Orient Fans couldn't believe he was a serious option to come in and replace Charlie Kelman, whereas Lincoln fell in love with him coming off the bench for the same reasons we give him praise, despite minimal Goal contributions.

Short term he's a good option to have to come on, but if we want to play with more control in games he can't start.

And he’s clearly more available than Justin. In my book, that’s plus points each week.

Find the other half of the horse and we are in the money come the January pantomime transfer season.

I don’t think all aspects of hi technical ability are ‘unnatural and subpar’ . Some of his ball control last night and passing was technically very good. There was one time in the second half reasonably late on (although I think it was still 2-0) When himself and Burrell where in a fairly tight space high up the pitch on our left hand side.Burrell passed the ball to him and despite being under pressure he controlled it neatly and laid it off to a team-mate.
However I agree that just when you think he is to do something positive he has an ‘erractic’ moment…I think he just lacks composure which hopefully will improve with experience.

I agree with this.

In the pre-match warm up thingy where the team take pot shots at our reserve keeper - sometimes it's Salamon but I think it was Ward yesterday - Alfie was scoring some crackers, right in the corner of the goal, so he definitely has the ability. I think it's just a compusure thing when the pressure is on a little.

"Remember to listen to me but look at her. Don't get it the wrong way round. That would be hideous."

Agreed - last night was his best game for us by some distance and there were a few moments where he either flicked an aimless long ball nicely to Burrell or took a ball up front on his own with 4 defenders around him and kept it alive. His target man game has come on nicely and having the option of two pace merchants up front will be a nightmare for high defences.

He’s definitely improving and that’s all you can ask, he looks like a decent player to have in the current squad. He’s never going to score 20 a season but you can’t have it all

If Lloyd helps Burrell get 20 goals I will be happy

I just watched the 15 mins highlights on Sky and he drew a really good save from their keeper to the extent the keeper failed to hold on to it and it got recycled and Saito put i over the top

I maintain I would prefer someone like him with his 100% commitment and as I said, he will deservedly get starts and get better with confidence.

Lets just say (warning to a certain fanclub) he made the most of his opportunity where others have failed - I think BrizR has got it spot on

I like both players and can see the merits and development issues for them. So not taking sides. Just some accuracy searching.

Players can only move or return from loans with league clubs in the windows. Hence Alfie couldn't have played for us last season.

The season before, Alfie did made 31 appearances throughout the season, a total of 886 minutes. However, he wasn't in the squad for 8 of the final 12 fixtures.

Kolli made 22 appearances 936 minutes and coming back from injury, played in the final five fixtures.

Source for the above transfermarkt.

From memory Kolli also went off at HT in the semi final of the Development League cup and missed the final.

“but should never be starting” sorry but his performance last night entitled him to.
As has been said elsewhere on this board others missed more chances than he did on the night, in my opinion, he should be given more time - his performance pleasantly surprised me yesterday - without him we had no physicality up front and Burrell certainly benefitted from him bein there.

I never lie but I don't always tell the truth

Lloyd on 23:25 - Sep 3 with 1357 viewsViewFrom165

Just saying it as I see it, we all watch Football through a different pair of eyes and set of standards/expectations and that is perfectly fine.

I personally want my Strikers to be able to control and pass the ball as an absolute minimum, I don't think Alfie deserves any extra commendation for doing that a couple of times last night, as he still makes it look difficult. I've praised him multiple times for his physical and athletic attributes, he's a battering ram and actually has some unpredictability when Defending against him because of his lack of control of the ball, and at times his body, but there's definitely been improvement in how he uses his frame which is encouraging.

I hope he can find some composure to play the right final pass or take his chances infront of Goal, but the game and opposition sadly don't afford you the time you get taking some uncontested shots in the warm up. I'm more than happy to see him come on at 2-0 up with 10mins to go, but as for starting or when we're chasing the game and need a Goal I don't think he'll be the player we turn to too often.

Love his personality, hope he proves me wrong and comes on leaps and bounds this season, but I'll personally keep setting the standards I'd like to see from QPR Players a lot higher.

The lad busts a gut and seems like a decent sort but there is much technical improvement needed. Kone and Kolli need to heed the message and buck their ideas up.

What even is an ‘end product?’
Another phrase that’s somehow become part of football parlance today. I personally think ‘goal’ or ‘pass’ were working just fine
