Great second half, exciting, I get all that, celebrated the equaliser like we’d won the league, done that many times too.
Trouble is, we don’t win any leagues, we win fck all, and if you think that was like a win, then we might us well pack up and vote ourselves 15th place for evermore.
The first half is what everyone should be concentrating on, if we’re ever going to compete.
I do understand what you are saying but I am not going to concentrate on that first half because we won't see one like it again. A rare Jimmy stumble and mistake followed by the red card. If you watch the Referee he awards a free kick and only later produces a card after he is surrounded by the Preston players. In my opinion if the Referee is convinced that Cirkin's tackle warrants a straight red card then he is producing it immediately and not worrying about a free kick. No reaction from the linesman either who is right next to the action.
As always fine margins.
Can't blame anyone for really celebrating a nearly last minute equaliser especially one like that!

Nope, sorry chaps prefer to concentrate on the fact that we showed immense character and performed as a unit for the majority of the second half, after bad mistakes in the first. You win games in your head as much as you do on the pitch. To concentrate on that, best forgotten, first half would be an incredibly ridiculously stupid thing to do, IMHO.
Yep. If you watch that togetherness, determination and sheer bottle to get something out of the second half and come away sniffing saying the first half is what we should remember you’ve got it badly wrong I think.

An encouraging thing is how better some players look, how better the team spirit is and how better we all round play. In years past I think we would have tried to limit the damage. Stephan et al are obviously doing good work
On QPR+, never a red card, but as soon as the - weak - ref was surrounded by Preston players all crying wolf, I thought Cirkin would get a card, but I thought a yellow one
And our players should have been far more in his face too. It’s a 50-50, the Preston player goes down like his leg has been amputated and quelle surprise, he's up a few minutes later.
We're still not voluble enough for my liking. Get in the referee's face and tell him he's being conned.

Some idiots at the front of the lower loft were really laying into Dunne in the first half. Yes, he was poor by his standards but he didn't need people abusing him. Glad he gave a bit back.

We'll look back on this one at the end of the season either way and point to it as showing the signs. Either as an example of it resilient spirit which ultimately pushed us up the take, or as an example of how we couldn't kill off a poor side and got in our own way

A draw at home and pts dropped against arguably the worst (and managerless) side in this league, or the major exhilaration of an immense fightback with 10 men that left LR absolutely bouncing? I don't know.
I really admired Captain Dunne's Top Six comment for its bravery, spirit and determination - but I immediately referenced this after Kenny's 2nd goal today. Does a side pitching for an upper play-off place concede two goals in under half an hour against a 23rd place team which has lost 6 of the last 7, or does the power of the 2nd half fightback lay a foundation for a place in the top quarter of the Championship in May? Very hard to judge or know.
There's spirit and steel there, unquestionably, but we have had a kind-ish fixture list up to now. We have improved no doubt - and today proves it again. But Top Six? Let's see in early December.

Just back home, so much for a stress free afternoon 😂 Like most people have said, a really good battling display in the second half and a deserved point. Mistakes happen, unfortunately it gifted them the first! Poor decision for the red card, two players going for the ball and Cirkin gets there first, catches the lad, but never a red! The ref and Lino on SA stand were both awful! We have to improve our shooting, two decent strikes in the end, but most of the time it’s like we’re trying to walk it in! 3 weeks of now and then we have a tough run of games! URss

Quite. If we'd have won that game 1- 0 would I be happy? I s'pose so. But not as happy as I am watching our ten men come back in the second half from 0-2 down.
I get that it's about winning in the end. But it's also about how you win, and when you win. We're eight games into a 46 match season. I'll take a game like that in September, when I wouldn't in April, because I think it can lead to better performances down the line. I'd also credit our head coach, big time, for our second half showing. Applaudissements monsieur!

The second half was superb. The character shown, the fight, the effort, the tempo, the intensity, with 10 v 11, was outstanding. We could and should have scored 3 or 4. We deserved to win the game off the back of it. Battered them. It was exhilarating. The players should take heart from a display like that with 10 men. Fantastic. And what a response Stephan got from them. Kamara was superb in tiny spaces. Madsen controlled the game. Saito and Smyth improved us enormously. Adamson was excellent. Edwards super. Dunne woke up. And Poku was the threat we hoped we’d signed the whole time. Superb.
However, we can’t gloss over how bad that first half was. It was one of the worst in years, probably since the Blackburn home loss under Ainsworth just before he got the sack. Dunne had a shocker. Scarlett was thrown in the deep end and found himself way out of his depth. The defending for the 2nd from a host of players was awful. But the major issue was, from the whistle, well before the red, there was no tempo, no intensity, no snap to our passes, hardly any movement. We looked like we’d rolled out of bed hungover and had just arrived at the ground. Stephan was right to call that first half “unacceptable”, because it was, for any professional football side. But he also got the starting line up wrong. Vale’s injury is unfortunate, but Varane was not the right replacement. It put Kamara at 10, where he looked lost, and Varane at 8 where he looked half arsed. And Scarlett, who I’m sure will become a very accomplished footballer, showed he is a very long way from being a starter. His off the ball positioning is miles off where it needs to be. There is a reason Preston kept trying to attack that side.
So a proper “Jekyll and Hyde” performance. 1/10 to 9/10. Bizarre. Preston were and are a terrible side. That context is important.
Play like we did second half more often than not and we will be top 6, let alone top 8. Play like we did first half more often than not and we’ll finish much lower than 15th.
Likewise we both lost two points and gained one point.

Just home - what a second half performance- the players the manager and the fans need a lot of credit - the atmosphere was off the charts in second half - took daughter (25) she comes a bit with me and son (22) hasn’t been for 10 years. A panic decision on the change at the start and wrong choice
A sloppy first half from Dunne setting the tone.
A poor ref decision, down to 10 men. and then a left hand side with Adamosn (who was great to be fair) and a kid who was rabbit in headlights, neither took anyone on or ran in behind and positioning was all over the place.
Saito change and half team kicking changed the game. Poku outstanding and Smyth at right back substitution inspired

Hunter, I think you are looking at the first half too deeply. Conceding after 20 seconds would have been a shock to the system. Red card after 16 minutes and the remaining ten players would have been thinking WTF exactly the same as us.

I felt sorry for Scarlett, he was showing for the ball a lot but his team mates chose not to trust him with it. If that’s really the case, he’s not worth his place in the team even if it’s not a fair judgement on him. So much better having options on both sides.
Poku frustrated me apart from his goal. He seems to have given up trying to pass players on his right, and when he comes in on his left it’s always with the intention to shoot, not to pass. As such, he’s easy to read. His goal, which admittedly he took very well, fell to him from a rebound so the defence weren’t set up for him. If a winger is so one footed, and not called Arjen Robben, I’d rather see him switching from time to time to make trouble on both sides.

I actually thought Scarlett was one of our better players in the first half (a very low bar I realise.) He showed for the ball when he got the chance, and generally did something worthwhile with it. Given the shitshow the match turned into subbing him made total sense though.

Nobody expects to lose a goal in that way after 30secs. I thought the red was at best a yellow, the ref was poor throughout for both sides. Send definitely was a sh1t how defending and I’d have expected better from Charles at that angle. I think we were a bit shell-shocked after the goal and knocked for six at the sending off. I really expected JS to get them back on it for the second half and boy did those 10 players give it their all. Fantastic 10-man performance to dominate any team - yes PNE are poor but if they block and defend they shouldn’t lose that lead. We hounded them and pushed at them and deserves a win. But a great result and great To see management and players so dogged and determined. Bodes well for the season ahead. Kamara was a different man 2nd half. Poku was strong against a poor team. Smyth did what Smyth does auperbly. Saito gave a great performance (except for the dive). We have some key players to get fit during the break and we will come back stronger again. Gotta love football when it’s like this. That crowd were amazing! Well done Rrrrrs. Let’s get on the training ground and push on again. There’s lot to be pleased about.

Yes, a very fair summary and much how I saw it.
In fairness to Stephan, he alluded in his post-match interview to having got some things wrong. Perhaps they were the calls you mention. I like managers who admit occasional failings rather than pretending they are omnipotent in the Fergie/ Mourinho style.
For me the striker situation remains the worry: looking at that bench he had no centre forward options that would get him a goal. Burrell had an off-day, albeit in very difficult circumstances that left him isolated. Even playing so much better second half, having only 10 men, we couldn't draw him into the game. We had to call on a striker who shows great endeavour but just doesn't score. We have 3 other strikers at the club who are all - for slightly ambiguous reasons - unavailable. We must be able to draw on some of those options after the international break. We showed today we have the wingers in Poku, Smyth and Saito (all three excellent) but if you have 30 shots in a game you need to be scoring more goals.
Still, as you also highlight, a lot of positives today. The Smyth goal almost on a par with the Morgan blaster last season or the Dunne screamer the season before (both against Brum). The joy just tempered a tad because we should never have been in that position.
