Any thoughts, apparently he had been tasered but it had no effect, on first watching it I thought it was way off shooting him seven times. I’m uncertain these officers made the right choices but then again I’m uncertain as well as to what Blake was reaching for in the car having failed to stop, stand still or obey instructions from the police. Not sure those present knew of his previous convictions for gun offences but I’m not sure this has done the coppers a lot of good regardless of the outcome. As an aside, he’s still alive.

| Jacob Blake on 16:02 - Aug 29 by Groo | This to me is the issue with BLM. Their arguments are based on lies. While there is no doubt to me that they are discriminated against in white dominated society, the question they should be pushing is why do black people commit more crimes. The answers to the problems are more social and not police, the poorer areas are usually doiminated by the black population. The opportunities for young black people to get out are limited, there are exceptions but most are forced to low paid jobs or no jobs, this leads to crime as the only way out. The problems and answers are complex but the current issues mean more black people turn to crime in relation to their population size, which means more interactions with the police. |
Bingo. There are certainly issues in many black communities. White people, and most certainly white police killing black men don’t even register. Invisible barriers being put in black children’s mind. One of the main reasons BLM is dangerous is because it gives a false representation of the world. It convinces black people that there are immovable objects in the way of succeeding. It is used as an excuse for failure whenever something bad happens in society and this is taught widespread. If you don’t get the job you applied for as an example - this gives a feeling of hopelessness and can lead to the above being even more prevalent. These are things BLM could be helping fund to DIRECTLY improve black lives and in turn lower the crime rate and police contact. Instead they spend a large portion of their donation money on Democrat election campaigns. Except they don’t want you to know that. There is no coincidence this race debate heats up every 4 years without fail. Always an election year. [Post edited 26 Jun 2023 0:46]

Yes there is, but they don’t receive police contact so not at risk of being killed by them. You seem to be making a point that doesn’t relate to anything we are discussing.

That would be like saying Rape isn't as big a problem as it's made out to be, or there wasn't a lot of child sexual abuse in the 70s. [Post edited 29 Aug 2020 21:17]

So you’re convinced there’s racial discrimination, that black communities are disproportionately poor, that black youth have fewer opportunities, in the most poorly paid jobs or no jobs... Yet you say that the BLM arguments (i.e. those that point these things out and want it to change) are based on lies. That doesn’t make any sense. Yes they have fewer opportunities and are more likely to be caught in poverty (and all the ills that brings). That’s the whole point. Car crash of a thread this. Not aimed at you as you recognise the complexity, but there are too many people trying to whitesplain what is and isn’t racism (taking their cue from dubious, politically biased sources). I doubt any of us born on the right side of the tracks are in a position to criticise how black people feel about their lots in life.

Whitesplain! You do realise privilege exists among people of all colour, even in the USA? And that the feeling and experience of being poor and marginalised isn't solely determined by skin colour? And that having a different skin tone to another isn't a barrier for empathy? It ain't black and white. Before you comment about how you didn't say ALL white people are privileged etc, you've just painted us all into a corner and would denying us the opportunity of identifying why more black people are in poverty, owing to our skin colour. Why more are in single-parent homes. Why more have want-away fathers. And Dr Parnassus, how often do we hear of the intra-racial crime that accounts for such a high percentage? Hardly ever, because there isn't a lazy race contrast to make. The level of intra-racial crime is highest within the black community. [Post edited 29 Aug 2020 22:14]

| Jacob Blake on 22:20 - Aug 29 with 867 views | Kerouac | This is the age of irrationality. Those on the left have gone way off the deep end. I used to be on their side and used to excuse stuff with, 'They mean well...heart's in the right place...they are aiming for a good goal' ...but that has ceased to be the case. We now have people openly arguing that black is white and that there is no such thing as colour anyway. Far too many have disappeared WAAAAYYYY up their own arses. This has become really dangerous now,. If reason, and facts, and the law of the land is not to be respected then dialogue is not possible. Keep on prodding and there is going to be a reaction, when this happens it will be the fault of those who are lighting the fires. I note, a group of Republicans were attacked by a mob of BLM idiots outside their convention tonight...fortunately this incident didn't descend into violence. The innocent Republicans being mobbed for the crime of not being democrats stated; "If we'd have been forced to defend ourselves (if BLM made it violent), I know that this would have been reported as white men attacking BLM 'protestors'... ...impossible to disagree with that statement. | |

Indeed. Black immigrants outperform black US born citizens in every single department, education, income, crime rate.. you name it. Often coming over into poverty to start also. Their skin colour isn’t a problem for them. Asians are the highest earning racial group in America, their ethnicity isn’t a problem for them. Narrow it down further and I actually think Indians are the highest earning group within a group in America... America is full of “brown skinned” folk, yet the only people claiming some sort of oppression are ones with the mindset that everyone is out to get them. Work hard, focus on education (regardless of school), stay out of trouble and don’t have a child as a teenager and you will succeed in America regardless of race, gender or sexual preference. Make good choices, take responsibility for your own actions - you will thrive. This myth that black people are being kept down by some invisible system is utter dross and a dangerous narrative to sew into young people.

No it wouldn't, not at all. We only know how many of those crimes there are if they are reported. It doesn't mean we don't know there's a big problem it means simply that we cannot quantify it. If it cannot be quantified putting a number to it is purely guesswork, would you rather that every fact you posted was considered a guess because you want to include made up numbers?

What are you talking about? We don't need to know the total crime rate in terms of actually how many crimes are committed. We are trying to find out if a race is being targeted or treated differently once criminal contact with them is made. In order to get that number we take the reported crime rate. Of that group you divide by race and then look at who has been the victim of police killings in that proportion. Its not rocket science. How many crimes go un-reported is completely irrelevant to anything we are talking about.

No I haven't because the argument swings both ways. If we knew about absolutely every crime it could work out to be a much worse figure for any side of the argument The crime rates are accurate according to reported crimes. Of the reported crimes we know how many of certain crimes were committed and by which demographic. Of unreported crimes we have no idea of the the number of the demographic The crime rates are not 100% accurate but neither are they complete guesswork, if you try and include unreported crimes in the stats you reduce it to complete guesswork. It becoms just another pointless prediction.

It's still an irrelevance regardless. If a crime is unreported, then there will be no police call and as a result -no police contact... so it has no impact on the discussion of police brutality. If we were discussing ''Rape is a problem isn't it?''... then unreported cases are most certainly a talking point. But you cannot have police brutality where there is no police contact. So when establishing how police interact with criminals, we have to look at the police contact - and that stat is crime rate.

There must be reported crimes where no one knows the demographic of the perpetrator. We only know the demographic of solved crimes when the perpetrator is known. There are very many unsolved crimes.

Yes but there are unsolved crimes where they know, or think they know the demographic too. As Dr P says though, there cannot police brutality where there were no police. An unreported crime and an unsolved crime are still seperate issues. PS, Dr P, I agree rape is a big problem, as is any crime so the major talking point for me would be why have the police faced so many cuts. BLM would defund them further but we have seen the outcome of 20,000 fewer police up to know. Crime hasn't dropped, anti social behaviour hasn't vanished.

...and they rarely, if ever, end in a death to anyone, unless a crime is committed before their eyes and react to it, but then that would be counted in the statistics. We are talking counting on one hand types of figures and I can already think of 2 white ones, only 1 black one.
