Steve Cooper has no excuses for tired players. He has a shadow team of at least 9 players that are more frustrated than tired and perfectly capable. These are getting 10-15m of coming on late to losing games. Steve C actually signed all these players either from other clubs or brought in from the academy.

How are they being flogged to death? We've played 2 less than everyone else. Just last week he made 5 subs. And just before that most of the 1st team had a week and a half off due to the Wednesday postponement.

One of the most spectacularly stupid things I've ever seen a Swansea manager utter.
I think we can gather from his steadfast refusal to give Morris more than about ten minutes per league game and his general reluctance to change anything that his preferred choice would be to play the same basic XI every week if he could. [Post edited 1 Mar 2021 19:09]

Potter understood periodisation and preparing players for a long season. Grimes talked about the difference in a radio interview 18 months ago, Cooper's sessions are all win, win, win, 110% every day.
Proper old school thinking that fatigue isn't a significant factor in performances, and can't just be willed away however well-paid the players might be. I’d say he’s just asking for one big push now from the squad, some of whom will be jaded physically and mentally. It’s just to focus all energy positively now for the run in as we all know what a positive mental attitude can achieve. Let’s get those batteries recharged quickly lads. Psychologically very often you can put yourself in a right frame of mind or succumb. The players know the score that’s the main thing.

I don't think he's "bottling it". He's just very rigid in the way he goes about his business and won't countenance changing things. Whether that points to supreme self confidence or a total lack of imagination would depend on how it works out I'd imagine.
Thus far in his career he's shown a talent for organisation and a total lack of one for improvisation. The tactical switch to three at the back was initially forced on him rather than a conscious choice. Now he won't countenance doing anything else. | |

Sad is why some are excusing Steve from any culpability whatsoever.
The players are his responsibility. He controls them.He selects them. Their welfare is also his responsibility. He has overplayed his staff and they have become stale.Some will be carrying injuries.
Morris was an excellent prospect criminally underplayed until his tragic injury.
His yankee colleague seems to be suffering too .
Why loan a player then not select,apart from Hoolie who is cruising through games without breaking sweat.
Cooper is as inept manager we have had in recent years.

That's just ignoring that no athlete starts a race already tired, they have to manage fatigue during a race but they don't do that Marathon with the wall hitting them after 5 miles.
Is it purely about matchdays, this fatigue or is he working them too hard in training too? With 2 games a week now they shouldn't need fitness training, to be worked too hard. The right training is more important.
Any one of us, if we're honest, if we have bad nights sleep and go to work tired, do we perform as well? If we do too much overtime, don't we run out of steam and need a break? These guys are sportsmen not machines., Though even a machine will breakdown if it's not looked after properly. | |
