He screwed up 2 playoffs .At least he got there though. Your campaign has been exposed. Cooper v Martin. Both failures at our club but at least we had some pride under Cooper and didnt have to suffer interminal drivel from Martin and the outright lies about a plan for the future. He has none;he wis awaiting his turn to jump ship from our putrid owners. Cooper did show some self respect though. |
Agreed there. You are a perfect example of the fact the Martin criticism has nothing to do with Cooper. Well, maybe in the sense that he showed (and continues to show) what you can do with making the best of what you have, but Martin would have had the backing if he was putting in the performances. He’s been criticised, quite rightly, because we are languishing in the league and looked awful for most of it, that has nothing to do with Cooper. I will say though that the reverse is probably true. Many posters that are getting annoyed at those criticising Martin’s style we’re among the loudest voices criticising Cooper. Their stance on what was a successful manager last season can only be justified if his removal (as they called for) resulted in better things on the pitch. That’s why judge after 10 games turned into 20, then turned into 6 months, which then turned into a season, which has now turned into 18 months. There is an ever moving and expanding period of allowance for this rubbish and I fully believe that stems from them not wanting to admit they got it wrong. Hence why any sort of result and the first people looked for are those that have criticised us this season, they are immediate targets for these people. I’m sure many will know exactly what I’m talking about here, from both sides.

| Quiet on here tonight .Why? on 16:45 - Mar 13 by Sirjohnalot | I agree with you, with some reluctance. We’ve bought into this now and need to see it through to the summer and to the tail end of the year. A full summer transfer window with a full season behind us could well prove dividends. I’m starting to lose some faith but am prepared to see it through. What’s the alternative? Or who is the alternative? What do we do then ? Cooper ball ? What about the Swansea way ? |
Under martin the team has 75% of the ball i some games This means the players are getting used to passing the ball accurately all be it not under pressure. In the English leagues some player cannot even do that and it is noticeable in the underage teams where blind passes are common place. Swansea city are tying to stamp out these bad habits. Martin and Allen with he backing of the board are trying to create a team where ALL payers can pass the ball accurately a receive the ball in comfort and play out from the back with ease. This is commonplace in Spanish teams and technical nations like Serbia and Croatia. It is a way of life. Rushesha and Abbullai play in in the u23 week in week out. Young Congreave the same at u18 level. There i the odd ricket here and there and some payers not up to it are moved on and replaced. this development is represented in variable results. For Swansea city players it should be a minimum requirement. It was ingrained in the club form Martinez to Brendan, Sousa and hit the purest form at Wembley under Laudrup where giant killers Bradford city were left dazed and confused. Martin will either be the master of the 'foundation course' or see the job to its full fruition. What cannot change is he philosophy. Swansea must be capable of beating teams that can hussle and have a big lad up front and a good set piece. Martin should bring in help if he cannot develop a slick team with attacking intent feared across the land. Brendan failed at both Watford and Reading before he inherited the work left behind by Roberto Martinez. The likes of Monk Tate Williams Taylor and Rangel were unkowns and went on to be Swansea legends. Mr Allen gives the continuity and is the man chosen as "protector of the faith". I was delighted to see Leon Britton returning to coaching duties and his influence is already seen in the u23. Rushesha or Abdullai could be groomed to be the new Leon.

I would say any club in the football league can have 75% of possession in a game if they want. It’s not difficult. They don’t do it because it’s largely detrimental due to you only being able to achieve it by having the ball in your first third for the majority of the time. It really isn’t an achievement, it’s fraudulent to pretend it’s the product of excellence when in reality it’s a given with such negative and bizarre tactics. Cardiff, even with their set up now, can “dominate” any team they like possession wise if they set up that way.

| Quiet on here tonight .Why? on 16:38 - Mar 13 by KeithHaynes | Personally I will remain unwavering in my belief this Martin philosophy will work. Otherwise this season will be struck off as a complete waste of time. Not because I am committed to him as a manager but because of the effort and time those who do think it could work have put in to this season. I’m a realist with a positive outlook, anyone can rise from the detritus of doom, and there's gloom too and drag us northwards in this league has my support. Sacking him is pure nonsense, it’s costly and not beneficial. If this clicks we will be a monster of a side next season, but we rely on support both vocal and financial. Who can say what tomorrow will bring, but today for me is very clear. Martin In. |
That worries me. “Will” . Why? Positivity on your part Keith has no impact at all on the team . It is solely down to Martin. We are right now if nothing else boring. At worst, vacuous in thought and deed. You are hoping it works out. Yiu cannot be positive at all it will work out. Not sacking him is that which is stupid as we are nowhere near building positive anything . Our style of play is there for all to see . Martin is in dreamland . It is a nightmare on the making I make the above comments freely and with total respect for your views with which I profoundly disagree and I will continue to counter posts that are not realistic . I stand by every single world

| Quiet on here tonight .Why? on 13:18 - Mar 13 by magicdaps10 | I was happy to read and hear what you had to say but this seasons squad is no way better than last seasons, to say that and then say someone else is deluded is just not right at all. I bet Martin would love to have Woodman, Connor Roberts, Marc Guehi, Connor Hourihane, Jamal Lowe and Ayew available to him. I am not saying that there is no quality in the squad but it's not play off material for sure, I would say that we are underachieving and should be 6/7 points where we are as a team, considering that is only 2 wins and we have no chance of going up or down then I am happy to see where things go under Martin.....my mind might change come October or November but I understand the change this club is going through. It seems some fans have got so entitled over the last 15 years that they have forgotten how to deal with situations we currently find ourselves in today. Make no bones about it but this squad is not better than last seasons and we are not that top 6 team anymore, look at the players that have gone and the cut in finances. |
Having watched us in the real bad times I feel no entitlement What I do believe is that this sqaud is worthy of better results and performances we have some better quality than last season and have invested more in transfers than for several seasons. I am not saying we should be pushing for playoof places but we certainly should not be where we are. This season I beleve we ares stronger in attack than last season which is why the previous manager played to the defensive strnghts in the likes of Roberts Geuhi as you mention Piroe and Obafemi are an upgrade on Ayew and Lowe with Downes and Patterson I think along with Natcham though he is obviously not a 90 min player upgrades over HOuihane et al. But then it is alla bout opinions....maybe our manager should be playing to this sqauds strengths and get the ball forwards more to Piroe and Obafemi rather than kick out around our defense who seem to struggle with this in front of our own boc. I m sure if MArtin had last season squad we would not have achieved a 4th place finish under him with the same players....

Yep there are many like yourself who were unable to tell just how poor a manager he is, no doubt his speil won you over, hopefully as Russell will tell you it,s a learning process and you may learn from it.
| Quiet on here tonight .Why? on 19:48 - Mar 14 with 752 views | A_Fans_Dad | Martin had a vision which happened to coincide the majority of fans and upper management in Swansea City FC and he sold it like a snake oil salesman. The fact that it is virtually impossible to achieve at our level of financing seems to have escaped most peoples attention. If he was pragmatic and adapted his vision to include the actual abilities of his squad and use them as an advantage instead of considering them a handicap we might get the team playing really good football. We know they can, because we have seen them do it when they have been let off the leash that is possession first, second and last. You cannot pass your way slowly to score goals through packed penalty areas, you need quick distribution, pace and accuracy. Or you use long balls with big strong forwards, which don't have and don't particularly like anyway. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

A good manager always tries to play to his teams strengths and his opponents weaknesses. Doesn't seem to be happening with our manager, for our, and his sake he needs to adapt, or pass the job onto someone who can.

Exactly. There is no entitlement, there is an expectation in relation to the ability of our squad - as there should be. Otherwise we can always harp back to 20 years ago and use it to excuse anything. Man City I am sure wont be saying ''ah well, we were in Division 2 a few decades ago'' - expectations change with the talent you have at the clubs disposal - as it should of course. This is one of the best starting XI's we have had outside the EPL, certainly one of the most expensively assembled. Obafemi and Piroe up front is ridiculous.

Indeed. Maybe the penny has possibly finally dropped for the slow of thinking masses. Until ofc the next time we draw or win and then we'll be playoff finalist contenders, for the unthinking. Should we steal a win against bottom of the table Peterborough - watch the mass hysteria and Mindless-Martin-Mantra drivel spouted by the twps. Embarrassing, isn't it.

Difference is that I have been hoping that everything he was trying to do would click, and there have been a few times even in the first half against Fulham, where we looked as if it was beginning to click. Whilst Tuesday wasnt the right game to judge by, Saturday definetly was a sign that he had learned nothing. Being a glass half full type, I get behind the team and manager until I feel they dont deserve it. With Cooper that time was at Wembley ; with Martin it was Saturday OHL has been on Martin's case since day one, not through any brilliant foresight but just an inexplicable hatred of Martin

I would imagine everyone hoped that, but it was clear to some (more than others) that it obviously wouldn't while we adopt these tactics. It was explained in precise detail, and it was rubbished with those people called negative and ''not real fans''. Nothing has changed, only peoples rate of realising the obvious.
