Congratulations if you’re in the top 1% of earners. If you earn a million pounds a year you are now £54,400 better off.

Don’t worry if you earn around £25k, you’ll be around a massive £280 better off.

I'm lost for words, it's greed, it's well known trickle down doesn't work, the Tories are doing it to look after themselves and their rich friends at the expense of the general population.

As per usual mate 👌🏽 It’s a kick in the teeth

The expectation that Truss was gonna do anything worthy to help those who are struggling and those that inevitably will struggle is saddening, you saw her red herring of the energy cap, those expecting an annual cap of £2,500 were misled as the cap seemingly only applies to the unit of energy charge, just how that works is another conundrum.

She was never gonna bow down to the average person in the street never, she's a ruthless evil cow, its was always a sham government with Boris, but he was elected this cow wasn't elected by the electorate, its a sham and this is just the start folks.

Thats what I tend to think, they know they are losing the next election so they are making it as hard for Labour as they can.

The same kind of thing that labour did when they were last in power, remember the note...there's no money left. It's one of the problems with our system. Maybe we'd be better off with a one party system

A massive reform of the political structure is massively needed, none of them have a clue, they are all mostly career politicians, fecking useless at any other career so went down the political route, no passion for making the Country better, just making the lives of their donors and mates and their own lives and incomes better.
Such as it ever was over the last 20+ years. Torys Labour makes little difference these days, as I've said far to many times a massive political overall is needed, it'll never happen while we got the selfish in it for themselves glory goats.

Have they reduced the lower rate of income tax to 19% ?
So they can decrease next years public pensions by 2% ?
Great move, yes tax minister.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

The politics of envy. I’d rather spend my money on something I want, rather than give it to the government so they can send arms to the Ukraine to kill Russians.

Well if the Russians hadn't invaded Ukraine, though she has promised to keep on sending aid anyway so your point is, pointless.

It's not envy to disagree with the changes, it's hardly envy when people who aren't struggling are given a lot more and people who may have to choose between heat or eat are given next to nothing in comparison, it's more disgust than envy.

I've said it a few times, we personally have been quite lucky and we are still in a fixed term deal for another 13 months, our gas&electric bill will rise then by about 40 quid per month, that's 480 per year which is already a lot more than the gains I make from the tax and NI changes (which is obviously after the government capped bills too or I'd be a lot worse off) so by the time you add inflation in on food. clothes and petrol I am still hundreds worse off per year. That is true for the majority in the country and the outcome will be less money spent in shops and the economy will suffer. The top end shops won't because the rich can spend even more so the luxury brands will be OK but anyone below that is facing hard times.

Then there's the even bigger problem of how does the country pay for these things? In the end it will mean massive cuts to services, even the NHS and then there will be big tax rises in the future when common sense returns, those raises will take us well past where the thresholds were before Truss and Kwarteng did this silly thing. We have just seen a financial death spral kick started so everybody should start peparing for the really hard times that are just around the corner. Don't get ill, save what you can and dig in, in a few years the interest rates will be back to levels last seen between 1979 and 1992. The last rate rise has added hundreds on to some mortgages already.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

They get it back somewhere, that's for certain, if they wanted to help reduce inflation they should have reduced the VAT, which would encourage people to spend more, 20% vat on things you buy that could be seen as essential buys are ridiculous.

People are not daft enough to believe the tax rate cuts to the better off are to encourage entrepreneurs. It is shameless.

Cameron, for me,will be damned a the politician who pandered to people's xenophobia and gave them a referendum to leave EU,not believing for a minute we would vote to Leave;the biggest mistake any politician has taken since WW11.
I can imagine the Right wanting to kick Jonny Foreigners out but "working class" people;still cant get my head around it.

Some really good points here. The average salary for all workers in the U.K. is just over £31k, a person earning £30k will be £392 per year better off which, when compared to the rates at which food is increasing, fuel, utility costs are going up is very little. We have a “cap” on electricity, but it’s gone up over double in the last 12 months, mortgages are on the up and finances are being tightened. We’re already in recession and it’s going to get worse.

Rebecca Evans the Welsh Minister for Finance was being interview on the radio last night as I was driving home, one of the points she made was that as a result of inflation and the additional energy costs we’re experiencing an extra £4bn will be added to the public expenditure bill, however there is no money to pay for the £4bn therefore public services like the NHS are going to be seriously affected. The government have set a target of 2.5% growth per year, but that hasn’t been achieved since 2008.

People on lower wages will be worse off. I am in favour of tax reduction, but it has to be balanced out. Tough times ahead.

An excellent answer. You’ll see and hear the recurring phrase in the coming days “ a rising tide lifts all boats,” or variations thereof. It’s the hackneyed trans-Atlantic trope that’s become part of the free-market catechism. And it’s a lie.

Here’s what they’ve actually done: They’ve taken the last of the National chips to the casino and, with their fingers-crossed, put the lot on No.7.

There was somebody on here talking about ‘Accelerationism’ recently. Well, buckle-up, son. Your hour is at hand.

And it appears to be part 1 of 3 in the gamble, Loh.

Next bit is deregulation, which didn’t work in the banking system (see 2008), and allows daft stuff to happen like fracking and the reversal such as good policies like the sugar tax, which has seen recipes modified to be healthier and millions of children provided with free breakfasts through the tax taken in.

Part 3 is reducing spending which they’ve tried since 2010 by slashing public services, only this time it’s not coupled with austerity, it’s partnered with giving money to the most well off.

Trickle down economics? Shambolic.
