Congratulations if you’re in the top 1% of earners. If you earn a million pounds a year you are now £54,400 better off.

Don’t worry if you earn around £25k, you’ll be around a massive £280 better off.

What we do, is have a look of any of our friends are struggling and arrange anonymous through a mate of ours to pay eg for a weeks shopping. That way they’re helped but they don’t know who by so they’re not embarrassed.

Now thats brilliant and a very good idea. it's hard to help people sometimes because pride gets in the way. I know if we were struggling and a friend offered it'd be hard to accept, from one or two friends, funnily, I coud take the help but others, not. There's not much sense I can put in that besides saying that some people always want to be seen to help and people in need dont want it broadcast.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Even if it is something small eg. When you get to 50, 100 250 parkruns, you get a
T-shirt with that number on. Used to be free but as it’s got so popular you have to buy one. Chap I know does it with his son and they reached 100 together. He lost his job and someone asked him if he was getting a picture of him and his son in their T shirts. He didn’t answer so a couple of weeks later I asked the run director to find out if he’d ordered one. He hadn’t so I transferred the money to the director. I asked him to announce that for that weeks run there was going to be a spot prize for a random runner of free mile stone t shirt or something else from the range.

Never blinking guess who won that week ?

I’m a charity ninja. They’ve not got a clue, would never have accepted it otherwise

Sometimes a small act can go a long way. We help out an elderly neighbour, got her shopping and medicines during covid and during the heatwave we helped out in small ways, what she really appreciated, in her own words was, knowing someone was there if she needed them and sometimes she just wanted a chat.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

If they get two percent growth from this they will call an election and claim its worked , it won't work for their election prospects though as most people will know they are no better off , it might lessen the size of the defeat but the Tories are toast at the next election

And its only going one way..... I see that the government have been sending all of their dud minister out to defend the policies as that of economic growth.
Anyone with a basic grasp of economics knows that just isn't true. I dread to think of the damage they will do until they are ousted.

Blimey!

Are you a reader of Lindsay-Gordon then or did you happen across that somewhere? I’m genuinely surprised to see him crop up on here.

There’s certainly a cohort of MP’s who are livid about what’s happened; equally there are a few including ministers seeking to blame it all Putin - madness! Ukraine is certainly causing issues, but we never had the run on the pound until Kwarteng stood up and gave his speech last Friday. They are deluded.

Meanwhile, Truss is missing in action. Also be interesting to hear how the Foreign Office managed to spend almost £2k at Norwich City Football Club, bit of a coincidence with Truss being a fans and the Foreign Secretary.
