| Same old England 13:31 - Nov 20 with 13002 views | trampie | How have England got such an easy draw on paper yet again in this World Cup ? Before looking at the draw I thought they won't get past both Brazil and Argentina but it looks likely that Brazil and Argentina are going to be in a different half of the draw and destined to play each other in the semis, so any potential winner from the other half won't have to play the both of them (unless one of Brazil/Argentina don't win their group and perhaps they would be not that good anyway in that scenario). Brazil might be deemed to be better overhaul than Argentina but possibly not head to head versus Argentina (didn't Argentina beat Brazil in the last Copa America ) so if Argentina get past Brazil in the semis then there is as much chance of an Argentina v England as there is of any other possible finals. Iran, USA and Wales in the group for one of the 'big teams' in the form of England means they couldn't ask for better draw than that, then the possible easiest last 16 tie for them (possibly Senegal from Africa) then a potential Quarter final against France, France seem to be on the way down they lost 2-0 to Denmark last time out, they have injuries to their top players like Benzema and Pogba then England would have on paper a possible semi final against ageing Belgium. England couldn't hand pick a better draw if they tried. | |

| Same old England on 14:06 - Nov 30 by trampie | Yes Wales was in the easiest group (leaving aside having to play a Persian Gulf team in the Persian Gulf in the midday sun). Wales was only in pot 4 because of the Ukraine war and we would only have missed out on pot 2 by 1 place if it wasn't for the war causing us to qualify late through no fault of our own. |
Yes, I expect it’s FIFA behind the Ukraine war and they deliberately started it to advance Englands chances of a favourable cup draw specifically at the expense of wales 🙄

Foden and Greenwood were sent home by national team management.

Think Trampie is talking about a bit of silliness Foden and Grealish got sent home for. Nothing serious on either part. Likes a drama does Trampie

If only Foden was Welsh. Brilliant player with so much talent. I find him less arrogant and less likely to cheat than Rashford or Grealish too.

| Same old England on 08:30 - Nov 30 by Dr_Parnassus | No group was winnable for us, look at the top seeds in them all. No chance we were getting through regardless of what group we were in. But for England, 3 opponents inside the top 20 is probably as tough as it gets in a World Cup draw. All were capable of taking something off them. Anyone suggesting it was an easy group have a very loose grasp on the truth or little knowledge of the game outside of Europe. Iran and USA have been among the most improved sides in recent years surging into the top 20. Iran had lost something like 2 of their last 18 games before the World Cup and facing some excellent opposition and USA have the ability to beat anyone in world football. Give me a group with Qatar or Costa Rica in any day, we may actually win a game then. |
I agree, no group was winnable, however ours was one of, if not the, best chances of second place. From Englands point of view, pre tournament at least, we probably would have been the fourth seed teams would have wanted to avoid. They would definitely have taken USA and Iran as the second and third seeds. Pot 2 - Mexico, Netherlands, Mexico, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia. Pot 3 - Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia. Better to play the toughest fourth seed and weakest second seed, which isn’t far off what England got. They are also extremely fortunate to be paired with the group containing Qatar as top seeds, which essentially meant the likelihood of playing a pot 3 side in the second round, which happened. We didn’t win a game because we didn’t play anywhere near our capacity.
| Same old England on 14:34 - Dec 2 with 589 views | Whiterockin | I feel that by qualifying the Wales squad in general felt they had achieved what they set out to do. Instead of fighting in every match like other so called small teams did, they attempted to enjoy the World Cup experience. IMO it was just not good enough by the players or team management, they will all look back and regret a opportunity missed. | | | |

Personally I hope they don't win it but I do believe they have the best squad in the tournament.

Agree with this completely. They’ve had an easy group and a very fortunate second round draw, but if they go on to win the three games after that, they’ll have completely deserved it. Yes, on paper they have an incredible squad.

I used to want England to lose at anything. Now at my age Inrealise my family, all that I love ,respect and worship is English .I feel quite ashamed of my behaviour when England won the rugby World Cup. Lost lot of friends . Folks,it’s no good . Honestly. Sports wise, they are light years ahead of us . Yes Wales is small but it is so divided and parochial making it even smaller. One poster last night perfectly shows how crippled we are inside and we have to get free. Ditching Dafydd Iwan ditties would be a start

I don’t want England to win anything (semis is good to keep the interest going) but I don’t hate them. I have many English friends who I will wish good luck to prior to their games but the thought of the press if they won it would be it to much too handle. If my kids were English I’d probably want them to win.

Most of my English chums don’t give a monkeys Let’s not think that all of England is bothered . Many rugby fans in England think they are pansies …as we used to say… ThecPress is no different to the Cardiff press. When Cardiff compete and win, then ,let’s face it,it is gruesome . Slowly, signs we are growing up.
