I was there but did not see much violence. Mass pitch invasion for no reason I could determine. Lost 2-0 in the play off I think . Dzemel Hadzabdic was in attendance trying to stop the fans going onto the pitch I recall.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Took about 20 years before we could freely roam Reading after that. Even in the 2000’s we were stuck in that pub on the station and bussed to the ground. If you gave that the slip it was still difficult to get a beer anywhere else.

It was an end of season dead rubber of a game and as usual we travelled well. I was in my mid twenties and it was a surreal occasion.
Totally surreal. Outside the ground I saw mates who had already been in rucks with the police and other fans. I was with "respectable" guys that day in the stand and glad I was in hindsight. There were still guys trying to encourage the prawn sandwich brigade to get involved from where we were. Rubbish game though the funny point was the fan climbing the floodlight and fans singing the jacks are going up
Lord_Jack increasingly detached from the riches of kicking a ball
Was there that day with my teenage son. Sadly not proud to be a Swans fan that day. On the other hand seeing Andy Legg going up the stairs of the old stand to take a throw in - That we will never forget

Do you remember the Reading announcer?.
He sounded a bit camp like the character Michal Palin played in "Life of Brian" "Crucifixion?"
He announced in the chaotic scenes with the Thames Valley Police heavy mob beating their truchions ready to go.
"I would lie to inform the Swansea fans that the young gentlemen that passed out on the half way line has been taken to hospital and is now fine. Please again try to stay off the playing surface. Thank you."

I was 32 and still playing rugby so hadn't seen many of our games, we were awaiting my eldest's birth which came about in the July of that year, so it was full on preparation time, but read the match reports and couldn't believe the chaos and carnage, brother in-laws Mrs was from reading and a massive fan still is and she relayed the days events to us, sounded serious and also funny the way she was describing the events, I couldn't help giggling to be honest, she wasn't amused but it was the way she was putting it over, she still mentions it today with a giggle, far to much grog had been consumed that day, which didn't help, such as it ever was,

The climbing fan, John Longden wasn't it? I was stood about close to that floodlight about 2/3rds of the way up the terrace, I remember the riot police coming in, the fan throwing a plank over the gate separating us from the stand. That double gate at the front looking like it was coming down and loads of police rushing to 'defend' it.
It was a crazy day all around. Including white goods rolling down the high street! I was 26, it seemed like a laugh at the time though I didn't get up in the violence, I never did. These days I am far more sensible and any hooliganism is wrong and not to be laughed along with.

I can only imagine that last sentence being said with a stifled snigger Cat.
