New version for new season as Sheff Wed enter transfer embargo...

Old thread here...

Rest of the Championship thread by Hunterhoop 10 Aug 2024 11:07
Toyed with this idea last season. Shall we have a thread to discuss, comment on, cover the rest of the league? A place to discuss other teams’ results, performances, financial implosions, etc?

For example, last night, anyone catch either of the first two games? I didn’t. But somewhat surprised/worried Blackburn scored 4 given how they are meant to struggle. Was it Derby being utter sh*te?

Sounds like Preston are continuing in the same vein of being incredibly dull.

Clive, what do you think? Worth making a sticky? Might reduce the number of threads to manage.

Coming from a split family, last night I carried out a scouting mission on Bristol City.

In the first half Ipswich made the mistake of having most of the pocession, which led to Bristol strolling through them at the back. Thankfully, we're not likely to follow that route & we can certainly cause their defence problems as they have less pace than us. The right back, in particular, looked like a suicidal moment away from losing them the game. Not that Furlong was much better for Ipswich!

For possibly the first time, I would say that Armsrtrong looked as if he might be a footballer after he came on as a sub. I wasn't surprised that he made runs behind the Ipswich defence or that the passes he received were good, but Sinclair kept the ball under control & picked out the right pass. Even the save from his one on one with the 'keeper was due to good goalkeeping rather than a miss.

Saturday will definitely be a game where we need less than 40% of the ball & break quickly from defence.

Nice report, thanks Terry.

Actually, we need Coventry to lose tomorrow to keep them on 13 points, so with a win we go above them on 14 points and into 3rd place. However, that win would have to be by a better goal difference than Millwall's required win, as they play Coventry and, currently have the same points and GD as us. So, basically, we need to beat their win.

Also, you forgot about West Brom which is understandable. They currently have the same points as us but a better GD by 3. So, whilst a draw or loss is preferable for us to cement our place in 3rd, if they do win (against lowly Norwich) then we would need to beat their result by a 3 goal difference or more because with a better win by 3 goals will mean we have the same goal difference as them, but we will have scored more goals, so will be above them, sitting pretty in 3rd.

And the same actually applies, in principle, with our chances of finishing the day in 2nd. We'd just need to win with a +7 GD, at the very least, as that would take us to the same +5 GD as Sjoke, but we'll have scored more goals.

Also, worth noting that if we were to win by scoring 7 goals we would also end the day as the Championships joint top goal scorers and with 8 or more we would be in first place for goals scored. Don't think us being highest scorers in the Championship is in the Glossary?!

Apologies if a Spackman.

Phew!

Well, Dave's premise was being level. Now, I don't take with that concept because there's no such thing even if it comes down to alphabetical order - and tomorrow we can't be level with Stoke for reasons you've indentified.

So, playing along with Dave can only mean level on points alone. Any win puts us level on points with second and the West Brom result can't change that.

It's all beautifully poised for QPR to fail at the threshold.

Quick scan of Southampton forum suggests Ronnie has turned it around and starting ahead of Harewood - Bellis to good reports

Good for him bad for us ( if a transfer ever was a reality).

Lino in the Sheff Wed v Cov game has had an absolute nightmare .
Truly awful decision for the 3rd goal .
In fact one of the worst decisions I can remember .

I've somehow managed to down vote this.

I was tempted to not mention it and leave the meaning to your interpretation, perhaps my strong feelings about the aesthetic appeal of H-B

I've always liked Sheff Utd. I think it's the ground and the pubs.

But Wilder is such a miserable ol' scrote, that this is great fun!

Nah …… never liked them or Weds.

Variety of reasons.

Love, love, love to see them both drop.

Agree it is comical that Utd remain below their hated neighbours who are an absolute circus.
I’m not sure it’ll last too long, surely Utd will start climbing the table soon enough and I’d imagine they’ll make the play offs.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

Three games in a week for Coventry. Won all three, scored 12, conceded none. No issues about rotating the squad for them. Looks to be a huge gulf between us and Coventry and not just because they stuffed us. Wednesday's one goal and point against us is all they have achieved at Hillsborough so far. Then we can't beat league 1 standard Oxford at home so a lot of work still to be done with our squad.

Why are you directly comparing us with Coventry - the best team in the division right now by a country mile ???

He started for them yesterday as well.
Obviously showing the form that he did for us earlier this year so any hope of a return in January looks over. Not needed at the moment though anyhow as we are well covered at centre back.

So was I Boston.

Jim Magilton was their manager when they had last won & I think it was said that he was sacked three days after the win. A few months later he fell out with Akos Buzsaky!
