It’s been a long and painful journey just to get to this point but this is nowhere near the end for them. I hope their government is now using this data to drive the public to be even stronger in terms of respecting the lockdown conditions. Ditto Spain who are not too far behind the Italian curve. All nations can learn from this.
Meanwhile in the USA - last night I did a quick count of internal US flights by America, United and Delta and the total was more than 300. I can only assume that there are people moving around the country (as opposed to planes being flown devoid of passengers) which just tells me that they are screwed for many weeks or months longer than what Europe will be. |

Influenza doesn't kill the medical staff treating the patients. It doesn't kill relatively young and healthy people. It doesn't hospitalise 20% of the people who are confirmed to catch it.
Only 1 in 7700 people (so far) in the world have contracted it because wherever there is an outbreak society has had to be shut down. If that hadn't happened 20% of people who catch would end up in hospital, any health service in the world would not be anywhere being able to treat patients with covid let alone the other health issues that would continue to happen. |
I can assure you young people die through the cause of being influenza related, you do realise phenomena often is the result of influenza, thousands of heart deaths and cancer deaths occur everyday, and many of these are or have been in hospital at some time, at the moment coniviras is the new kid on the block and the decision they make in the next month or two on whether they continue these restrictions or not is going to be tough because keeping things as they are over an extended period of time may quite possibly turn out to be more harmful than the virus itself, one example being the thousands of people now not being to have vital cancer checks, or heart checks etc, also the economy will implode making things even worse, this is a hell of a predicament to be in but a decision to continue or not will have to be made either way,and sooner rather than later [Post edited 5 Apr 2020 19:01]

No it's not right. Nothing about this virus is right we are doing what has to be done.
I'm pretty certain only Scotland has stopped cancer screening but they haven't stopped treatment, I've been told that trauma and cancer surgery is running as normal. I hope everyone gets the treatment they need.
These measures will allow normal NHS service to resume ASAP and have to be implemented. I don't like it anymore than anyone else. People with coronavirus get seriously ill and die within a few weeks, other diseases have more time in many cases, its a nightmare scenario but we can't treat everyone all of the time.

It’s a difficult one. Some hospitals don’t want to bring patients in because the risk posed by corona is potentially greater than the illness they have. Guy I now has had a big heart op and needs to go back in, but he’s been told if he goes in and is exposed to it it’s almost certainly curtains.
