Swansea City poised to complete significant loan signing 14th Jul 2021 09:00
Swansea City bosses are working hard to complete what we understand is a significant loan for the club in the coming days. As yet the actual details of the deal are difficult to confirm amidst several players being mentioned in local and national media. 0

"young gun " and "hungry footballer " has to be the most moronic description of anyone at any time .Other than that why have someone back who will never be ours when we have our own who can develop and hopefully form part of the squad a for a few years to come . Build from the back

You have not lived much if that is the case. Bringing back Woodman does not affect Benda if Benda goes on loan and get 40 games under his belt. He is on a long term deal so the club need to continue his development and enhance his value. Its Cooper's decision and even if it is a bad one the consequences can be mitigated.

I agree nothing wrong in loans but why bring back Woodman, who we know has limitations, his stock and value increased not to the benefit of the Club, and if we are going to bring in loan player(s) then it should be to fill a gap until one of our own can step up

I actually rated Woodman higher than many on here. Wouldn’t mind having him back, but completely agree it’s not a priority. Whatever people think of Cooper, he has done well overall in the loan market. CH and to a lesser extent Gyokores failed.

I’d hope a ‘significant loan signing’ would be someone in the MGW, Wilson, even Gallagher mould. It’s an area we clearly need to strengthen.

What I would say about the GK situation though, is none of us know how good Benda or Hamer are. It’s all very well saying we won’t find out if we don’t play them, but if we end up with a poor keeper in a team that doesn’t score many goals, Cooper may find himself under pressure quickly.

Agree with all of that 👍 with the exception of Cooper comment, we could be top of the league at the beginning of May & still some wouldn’t except him.

He’ll be gone by Xmas would be my bet.

Yeah I’m not concerned if Woodman comes back or not. I’d be fine with it, but I’m confident Margetson knows what he’s doing. Either he thinks Benda is good enough or we’ll loan someone in. I don’t subscribe to the theory that we have to play him just because he’s ours.

A significant loan signing though, I’d hope would be a creative midfielder who can pick a pass, run at defenders and ideally chip in with a few goals. We’re desperately missing that.

Benda is 22, he signed for us in 2017 and was out on loan last season. How long does he have to wait, when will he be good enough? If he's not good enough now is it because he's just not good enough or our coaching has failed?

Ignoring Benda for a minute, why did we sign Hamer? Is he not good enough for our first team? If not why did we sign him?

We seem to be very good at signing players who aren't good enough then spending chunky sums on loan deals and leaving players we own sitting in the stands. Surely we have to do better?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Looks as it Woodman is not coming to Swansea so Benda it is. I want to see Cooper B and Garrick playing. They have done their loan times. Cullen and Ollie Cooper need games. Hamer is a reliable back up and content presumably to be a squad man.

Whiitaker Joseph and Latibeaudiere will also be pressing for starts. Cooper has too be more liberal with his subs to keep his squad happy. A tough league cup tie with Reading will need to be won.

We signed Hamer because Benda got injured and Cooper didn't trust Lewis Webb to be our backup.

Benda was out on loan the season before last, and got rave reviews in a title(ish) winning side. He's 18 months younger than Woodman, so only 6 months older than Woodman was when he was handed the gloves. Bit soon to write him off or blame the coaching staff when unfortunate timing of an injuries prevented him getting a chance in both cups.

Hamer is a third choice keeper. Every team has them and they are very rarely good enough for the first team, they are for emergencies. I couldn’t name any PL teams third choice. Cheap and understand they are unlikely to play.

Benda may well be good enough now and if he is, he’ll play. We can’t just assume he is because he’s been here a long time though.

Agreed, Cooper was under pressure from certain quarters when we were 3rd in the league and winning week after week.

People made their minds up early and couldn’t back down, there is no such thing as a clean slate. The minute we hit a patch of bad form (which we will do as every club does) some of our denser supporters will yet again turn on him.

They are a hinderance.

Edit - was third choice.

I’m sure that if we start with Benda, we won’t bring anyone else in. Hamer/Webb will be backup.

.

Oh dear. Why on earth are some folk banging on about the GK ?

This thread absolutely isn't about Woodman, despite some posters' tiresome diatribes.

This is about a new loanee, which could be exciting.

There seems to be a habit of some posters to drag upbeat stuff into the mire.

Webb will go out on loan with Hamer being second choice. Webb wants games, sitting on bench pointless for him.

What a load of old pony.
Cooper wasn’t under pressure because no one was at games. Do you think he follows our comments?
Many made our minds up about him as a person after giving him a fair chance, we also could see style was not in his vocabulary, many agreed in his first year that irrespective of results we were boring with little cheer during games. No one is failing to back down as nothing has changed. All that has happened is we have learned he is a limited manager who does not learn from experience.
'Denser' wtff! Just because dome of us with experience of years of playing and decades of supporting disagree with you apologies. And, we have been proven correct. Boring, indecisive, keeps doing the same thing while expecting different outcomes, continued to ignore some players but playing others out of position and blames others when negatives.
How a hindrance? Again, no one was at games. Do you think he follows our comments?
Ask any fans what generates negativity other than dire boring football? Because after winning at home leaving the ground was like walking out of a morgue in his first half season with many commenting they would rather have entertaining football than a return to Monkball.

Mr Cooper will be wondering why he is on £300,000 a year and not ten times as much. I am sure he loves Swansea city and south west Wales. He was the world no 1 Youth coach and is no doubt not entirely without an ego. He wants to be in the Premier League.

I suspect the Chairman might have casually mentioned that "perhaps he might have given Peterson more of a chance" or perhaps when bringing on a defender when the game was 1-1 at the Liberty that it "might be perceived by some to be a little negative ".

Steve Parrish (if they actually ever met) himself might has said to Mr Cooper " Steve to be blunt one or two of my board are worried that your methodology is not going to put bums on seats and the fans can be quite aggressive with us when that happens".

All in all I presume Mr Cooper is aware of the talk of "turgid football" and realises if he wants the big bucks he needs a more exciting methodology. Fortune does not favour low risk talkers. The most likely person to get a head to a wing back cross was the other wing back.

He knows what needs to be done but he must do it garnering more not less points. He is still a novice with only 2 seasons on his resume. Its not easy.

I think he was well aware of the noises coming from some sections of the fans, he made reference to it several times as “the noise from outside the camp”. If he is aware, so are the players. They all have social media and I’m sure they also read this board.

It would be extremely naive to think otherwise.

Cooper was slated very early on. After the first season people were comparing him to Monk and that we would drop like a stone after “a lucky play off campaign”. The year after we equalled our record under Brendan Rodgers and finished 4th on 80 points.

Proven right “you” certainly were not. Quite the opposite.

A lot of the negativity last year would 100% have been transferred to performances, it was even reported in the media and questions in press conferences structured around it.

Indeed, someone of Coopers record will absolutely be demanding a pay rise, it has been earned regardless of what some pretend otherwise.

Whether we can afford it is another thing.
