In answer to you and jasper, I wasn't writing him off, I was asking when will he get his chance?
He's been out on loan and done well but he's not had a chance here. How do we know for sure if he is good enough without playing him?
What are our options, another loan keeper? Because we certainly won't be spending millions signing an anywhere decent keeper.
Benda himself should be pushing for a chance and if he's not why not? People wont believe in you if you can't believe in yourself. |

It seems that some can see the Cooper situation as the same scenario as when Monk was here, looks good when viewing the table but realise that the playing style will eventually be the downfall, it's like looking in the mirror is is that similar.... People learn lessons, once bitten and all that.
Some people seem to just be happy sleep walking and walking in a rose filled garden without any thought of what comes at the end of it.

I get what youare saying about the length of time, my issue with another loan is, we can't be any more certain a loanee will perform well than Benda might.
Maybe it's the Hourihane effect? We all had high hopes Hourihane would be a catalyst, after an initial burst though, Houri was an utter disappointment. What if we loan someone in with contractual guarantees about playtime and he turns out to be hopeless?
I think I'd rather gamble on Benda first because if he isn't good enough we can change it. This significant loan, if it's MGW back I'll be ecstatic because he is young and hungry and didn't we all love his drive, the positive effect he had? If it's not him I think it's needs to be a creative player, we have safe reliable players, we need a spark in midfield to supply our young and hopefully highly driven forwards. | |

I’d agree, I’m hoping if it’s not MGW it’s someone in that mould. Desperately missing that kind of player.
Best case scenario is that Benda is ready for the Championship and starts the season as first choice. I guess the point I’m making is that’s a position we can’t afford to get wrong. If Cooper and Margetson are happy with Benda, then brilliant. If not, I’d rather them loan in someone they rate. | | | |

Amazing how folks jump at every opportunity to have a go at Cooper ...this thread is meant to be about a significant loan signing..yet it turns aghainst the manager...who may well be the instigator or majoor catalyst in the succesful aqquisition.....Liverpool and Chelsea have profited from players spending time here under our manager who have then gone on to be sold....as they were under the spotlight as a result of our success.
Again that is your opinion to which you are entitled but its not strictly in line with the facts
The match reports from our games at Norwich Brentford talk about us being the more attacking side, also we took the game to Bristol City up there to be undone by a dodgy penalty....this myth that is perpetuated is not as fact driven.....no one has attended any matches until the playoffs and yes by then Cooper had become risk averse...though one poster has given Cooper stick blaming him for Brentfords scecond goal as Cooper had commited too many men forward for a throw in from which Brentford broke away and scored...seems this coward of a manager cannot win!
Read some of these reports...the Bristol CIty one mentions how both sides were commited to attack....even after going 1 up we were not sitting back and defending the lead or the draw we were after the win...

Both teams were trying to win it rather than settling for a draw and it was Norwich who finally broke the deadlock after 84 minutes.

There are more examples of this .....its all about opinions...yes its not as exciting s the Martinez,Rodgers or LAudrup days but its a step up from the Monk season..we are also getting results ....I am sure if we were playing champagne football and losing as Brighton and we were struggling at the foot of the table ....fans would be unhappy too...how often have we been "entertained" but ended up losing.....I know fans have nt walked away full of cheer then
As well as being an asset who contibuted mostly to our results Ayew was a hinderence in the fact his "cost" reduced our abuilty to add depth to the squad...It seems we have invested in "attack" already this season so lets see what this season brings [Post edited 16 Jul 2021 12:06]

Negotiating for loans is quite a tricky one because the releasing club tends to be very big and not concerned with the lower clubs problems. They also want to "look at the player in pre-season". This is why Guehi was so good as it was an 18 month loan.
I remember Warnock getting very angry when he thought he had Grucic tied up an he went somewhere else in Europe last minute leaving no time for another player.
Chelsea are good in that respect as they have dozens of good prospects known to Cooper and he can make is play for 2 or 3 of them perhaps knowing at least one will come. The 18 month model worked well. Guehi joined Swansea worth £3m and left worth £20m plus add ons. Having a player that can be adaptable and play in more than one position gives an added benefit. |  |

Yea get what you mean. I suppose Garner would fall into a similar category to Woodman and Wilson who are referenced in the article as being the type of player / transfer it won't be. | |
