That means a lot of Blackburn folk follow their local side, and clearly some of them twice. There is no other explanation. Holland’s pies is the towns biggest exporter, in a hundred years back, or less, they used to export cotton ( not Holland’s pies ) to the world, then one eyed Joe got annoyed and it all went south. Not literally, nothing goes south from Blackburn as we have seen with their away supports over the years at Swansea. It shouldn’t ever be said that Blackburn people are thick, other than all of them mostly are really intelligent. They came second in the UK’s most intelligent town in 2017. This was an incredible achievement for them as they were the only town to enter. Thick or what ? Everyone born in Blackburn has no toenails. Blackburn Lives Matter Dark markets only. Grimes has been next to useless. Given the ball away countless times

He's the only player coming to receive the ball, and when he does get it his fellow midfielders are stationary 20 yards further up the pitch. Positionally, from defence to attack, much of our players are useless. Especially Latibeaudiere. How on Earth is he starting a game in this league?

He was out to make the initial save. Then out even further to attempt 2nd save, which he was unlucky with.

You can see we're a work in progress but the finished article could be something special. Need a lot more movement from midfield to give the defenders an option for a pass as too often they've only got themselves or Grimes to work with. Blackburn quite well drilled and hard working as you'd expect.

| Matchday Thread : Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City 21/22 on 14:51 - Aug 7 by londonlisa2001 | I’d forgotten that. I have been disappointed in Latibeaudiere in preseason. Let’s hope he improves today. Going forward, I’m convinced he will be a better defensive midfielder than centre back. |
Well he hasn’t. Nor Bennett. It’s not a system issue, they just cannot pass the ball under any sort of pressure at all.

Decent overview Dr - 70% possession but only 1 attempt on target, predominantly because most of that 70% was in our half & it will take time (& a few player changes) to get players comfortable on the ball in tight situations & to get team mates to move into spaces so the player with the ball has a couple of options.

I’ll grant you Bennett is really going to struggle in this system. Guehi would have thrived but he’s not coming back. Cabango played the pass of the game so far in playing in Cullen who was unlucky not to score. Hopefully Downes will make a massive difference in midfield- we really need someone with a bit of bite.

Neither Bennett nor Lati are used to playing possession football or quick passing. The Swansea players who were under 23s or here before Copper do.

I'm very surprised to see we had 70% possesion. Most of that must have been Benda. He's been getting the balll and having to hold onto it for way way WAY too long, as there is no out ball. He's been forced to hit it long many times. It's not difficult to position 1 of 3 centre backs to receive the ball. If they are all marked it should leave space for the DM or WB to be free. It's like we have never played this way before. Potter used this kind of system mun.

Yes agreed. But apart from the goal and the following ten minutes we haven’t looked that bad at all. Benda has looked extremely comfortable on the ball and with crosses coming in. We’re only going to improve though , Martin has only had 5 minutes with them, Grimes is on the pitch when he’s almost transferred to another club, Fulton out and Piroe excluded. If we get the two Man United Loanees in, Downes to bolster the midfield and a striker we’ll be ok.

We've given the ball away too cheaply, we look loose defensively but it got better and you can see what we're trying to do. People being so critical, our manager has had 4 days and he'll need time, patience and support. Hopefully when a few new faces have arrived things will start to click. On a positive note, we are trying to pass, Benda looks confident on the ball and we could have scored. Cullen maybe should have scored. The pace of our play is much better too.

Martin's not going to repair two years worth of Cooperball in less than a fortnight. It will take time. He'll be very lucky if he gets it from some of our beauts.

Either that or move to 451, bring on Brandon Cooper alongside Cabango, Bidwell and Naughton full backs, Grimes and Smith sitting behind Paterson at 10, Lowe on one wing, Whittaker on the other, Cullen up front in his own. 451 when defending, 433 when attacking. Either way, get Latibeaudiere off and preferably Bennett as well.

What, you mean Korey Smith isn’t going to magically turn into Leon Britton just because the manager tells him to pass it more? Who’d have thunk it? You are spot on sadly. We simply do not have the squad or the personnel to play this way successfully. While the seals will no doubt be happy to give up 11 shots in a single half of football and claim it as something of an improvement. Truth is, if we were 4-0 down currently, it wouldn’t really be that much of a stretch. If we are to persist with this way of playing then the squad needs major investment. Football has moved on from 15 years ago and even the most basic of players cost a lot of money, the gems are harder to find in this day of over exposure of the game at most levels. I’m sure we will improve and it’s only game number 1, but these players aren’t going to magically turn into league beaters, they are clearly limited. Without that investment in the squad, there is potential to be an entertaining mid table side if we can get it some way right. If that’s “special” then by Christ I’m not entirely sure what to say.
