That means a lot of Blackburn folk follow their local side, and clearly some of them twice. There is no other explanation. Holland’s pies is the towns biggest exporter, in a hundred years back, or less, they used to export cotton ( not Holland’s pies ) to the world, then one eyed Joe got annoyed and it all went south. Not literally, nothing goes south from Blackburn as we have seen with their away supports over the years at Swansea. It shouldn’t ever be said that Blackburn people are thick, other than all of them mostly are really intelligent. They came second in the UK’s most intelligent town in 2017. This was an incredible achievement for them as they were the only town to enter. Thick or what ? Everyone born in Blackburn has no toenails. Blackburn Lives Matter Dark markets only. Noticeable that players are looking to go forward first rather than back. More excitement in the 40 minutes I've seen than anything from the last two seasons.

Then added to that base we had the players with pace and composure such as Dyer and Sinclair to supplement it. The ability to launch several types of attacks too, including long balls. Ashley Williams used to love to spread a long ball out to the wing. We haven’t replaced Dyer or Sinclair, all our wingers (Hernandez aside) have been speed merchants that don’t know how to use the ball. It’s all well and good having a philosophy or a style of play, quite another to have the players to implement it. Otherwise everyone would do it. We have to make a decision to recruit players who can play this way or expect that it will go wrong far more than it will go right, even when it’s “bedded in”. |
Any professional team can implement it. Teams play this way in the Carmarthenshire league ffs. It just takes practice. You've got to have a pretty poor footballing brain if you can't learn how to play a certain way. Especially if the manager ONLY plays one way, which I think Martin will. He has no plan B, so should be easy for any professional to learn. It was more difficult for them to implement under Potter, as he had plans B, C, D and E.

I also don’t understand playing three at the back in a ‘passing’ game. By definition, you are giving up a midfielder for a back, and usually that’s a reduction in on the ball ability. Plus your wide players are further back. I’m a fan of 451 to be honest. With pace on the flanks. And a creative number 10.

Depends your definition of implementing I guess. I would suggest any implementation would only be complete once a sufficient level of success is achieved via it. I don’t believe we can implement this style with this group of players and be successful. I would deem success as being a play off side. In previous incarnations of our side we had excellent technical players with vision, passing range and close control. It’s not really about learning a style, it’s about having the ability to do that style more effectively than the style your opponents are using. That takes superior talent.

These are professional footballers mun. There may be players better suited to playing it, but our players are not terrible. They should be able to play however they are told. They are all able to pass and all able to move and learn new tactics. If these are taught well, any of them can master it. IMHO.

Doesn’t matter if they are professional footballers, doesn’t mean they are excellent in every department. The likes of Bennett isn’t a professional footballer because of his composure, his passing range and ability and vision. He’s a professional footballer because he’s decent in the air, strong in the tackle and dependable. Telling him to be composed and telling him to ping passes around the back isn’t going to magically mean that he can. Not only can, but can to a sufficient level over 90 mins that we do it better than the opposition does theirs, probably more in a style that suits their players. It’s not about tactics, it’s about ability.

We may disagree on most other things , but with football we are certainly singing off the same hymn sheet. Again I agree.

At least two needed in midfield (assuming Grimes goes), a wide player and a centre back. Plus replacements for whoever else goes. And that’s also assuming Piroe isn’t an absolute prat.

Two bad mistakes in quick succession cost us a goal, but he also bailed out some players who made more howlers than him today with decent saves. Paterson was better second half but not sure what their keeper was trying to do for his goal. Jumped right out of the way of it. Subs needed earlier, Cullen wasn't in the game at all. Lowe looked out of puff and patience before the hour. Latibeaudiere just not good enough.

| Matchday Thread : Blackburn Rovers v Swansea City 21/22 on 17:03 - Aug 7 with 1358 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | It was interesting to see us come out in the second half and completely abandon the approach we employed in the first half. I think that is very telling of Martin's thoughts on what he saw in that first half. We have some truly dreadful players in this squad. The concerning thing is that many of them are deemed to be part of our best eleven. I thought Benda was excellent, aside from the penalty incident. His positioning when attackers face him one on one is refreshing. So often we saw Woodman quite literally standing on his goal line (I recall occasions he'd back step so far he would be behind the goal line when the attacker shot). Benda was always positioned perfectly to close the angle as best he could. He was the highlight of the game for me. | |
