Swansea City v Coventry City : Matchday Thread AFTERMATH 18:08 - Mar 2 with 10412 viewsNotLoyal

It’s the big game of the day in Swansea that’s for sure. Many other championship clubs will also be playing big games as well. In their own towns at least. Mark Robins who once played with Bobby Charlton’s old team wants to go to the premier league. He is making a good go of it. Better than Batman who he also played with.

Coventry City are on a mission for play off points at Swansea 3rd Mar 2022 09:00
Saturdays Championship battle between Swansea City and Coventry City see’s two sides in similar form. Both have won three out of their last five games, Coventry losing once and the swans losing twice. Coventry visit SA1 in tenth place with a superior goals scored and goals conceded record this season, plus they are ten points ahead of their rivals. 0

Nathanael Getting Ogbeta 3rd Mar 2022 15:59
See what we did there ? New swans signing Nathanael Ogbeta is back in light training after five weeks of disappointment rehabilitating from a hamstring pull. After ten minutes of his first Swansea training session he broke down and hasn’t been able to join in any physical team activity. However, the added value for Nathanael has been gaining an understanding of the Russell Martin way when it comes to training his Swansea players, both mentally and physically. 0

The key factors to a successful Swansea City Saturday 5th Mar 2022 07:21
Today’s game against Coventry City is a winnable proposition for Russell Martin’s side. Yes there has to be that click that we all saw last Monday night at the Hawthorns, and it most certainly comes down to numerous key Swansea components coming together. And by that we mean the positivity of certain players to bring about attacking football. 0

Russell Martin demands the same again from Swansea City 5th Mar 2022 13:00
This afternoons game from the swansea.com stadium has become something of a defining moment for Russell Martin this week. Not only does he want to see another top performance at home, after three months of poor form it will show clearly his ability to turn around and get his team going again. 0

Obafemi ‘Scores some goals for Swansea’ in another three goal home win 5th Mar 2022 17:30
Swansea City again turned on the style to make it five goals in two games with Michael Obafemi shining in front of goal yet again. Okay, let’s make it sound better, that’s eight goals in three games for the swans. We have to put that Sheffield United game to the back of our minds. To see Swansea dominate a first half so calmly and to score two goals from well created chances will please supporters of the Jacks. Coventry haven’t won in Swansea since 1960, and that trend has continued. 0

Well this is more like it chaps.

Pass numbers and possession notably down on the usual 700+ and 75%, quicker passing and more direct.

I swear every time we have played that way this season we have won, or at least got back to level after losing prior to doing it (Luton springs to mind).

I’m going to have to check at half time but I feel we have played much longer and direct passes than we have seen all season.

Usually in the 7%-8% range, but this feels double.

It was and it shows the benefits of not faffing around at the back.

Direct and score.

We can kill teams and it's so frustrating as to where we are in the League.

Hope no wars forum wars tonight

Smith has done alright whenever he's been moved out wide for us this season. Just keep him out of the central positions and he can be a decent squad player.

Fisher been much more direct with his passing today. They're leaving a huge gap in front of their back three to chip balls into, and when he eventually got one on target it was a goal.

309 passes in the first half. 54 long passes.

17.5% long, that is the highest it’s been all season.

We really have hit upon a formula, it’s a formula that was proven earlier on in the season when we went on a run. He surely has to sit up and take note now that you can play decent football as well as being direct, you just have to sacrifice some possession.

60% possession in the first half which is a nice healthy balance and more akin to a Rodgers or Martinez approach.

But now we are 2-0 up I don’t mind killing the game with a zillion negative passes, we can now do that to our hearts content, get them chasing.

This is the balance we need.

10 minutes to go, 3-0 up, attacking mid gets injured... should have brought on Congreve. Never a better chance to blood a youngster.

First game in a long, long while where I feel we played with tactical sense from start to finish.

53% possession
530 passes
A shade under 15% long

I would be thrilled if this was the approach we started to take going forward. Quick and direct with crisp passing.

This is the exact way I want us playing as a fan. Full praise to manager and players, more of the same please.

Two academy boys scored for Cardiff to beat QPR.

Not a big fan of players soldiering on when injured. Puts team under pressure and likely to make problems worse. Fisher should have gone down, and maybe Smith will regret playing on.

Took the shine off today unfortunately but I’ll live!

Thought we were doing our best to give Coventry as many chances as we could in last 10 minutes. Need 90+ minutes of concentration.

Who passed the ball across the pitch that went to their player which then resulted in their goal? Very sloppy.

Great result though. Could give Fulham a good game in mid week.

Massive game from Oba, made all the difference, in many ways. He's playing with a proper smile - lovin life down on the beach apparently. Let's hope he's found his proper home.

Playing more direct, pragmatic driving football is the winning Swansea Way. As per the past two perms.

More of the same, with continued emphasis on getting it up to Oba asap. Always.

It was Manning (the pass).

I have to say Naughton was superb today. Just brilliant.

You're right about the chances we gave them. It did give them a glimmer of hope for the last 5 minutes. I suppose the theory is that the more we play that style the better we'll get so make less sloppy passes.

If that's how it pans out I can't wait.

It was a comfortable win and the goals excellent.YET,we still saw suicide passing at the back. There is simply no need to put pressure on ourselves.
Mitrovich will be at us on Tuesday and he will be looking to benefit from any weaknesses.

We can play, we can attack;sadly it' all rather late in the season.

I think this season will be one that "could have been".
