Looks like there’s a fair chance that it’ll take off with no passengers.

Liz Truss wants it still to fly as it will “establish the route”.

Yeah it’s hugely exploitative. Some of these agencies cream off about 40% of earnings in “fees”, if a person is on minimum wage and you add in tax/NI etc they’re probably only working for about three quid an hour. That’s if the agency gets them any work at all. Of course if they are registered to an agency they are included in employment statistics even if they aren’t working. So the government can stand up every three months and say look how good our employment statistics are, people like Kilkenny Jack can say “immigrants are more likely to be in work than British people” and the businesses who use the agencies can dump people and hire people on a whim.

Everyone’s a winner apart from the poor sods having to do all the work for terrible pay, no security, no rights and no future prospects.

In my old job they had an agency that used to come in to do the cleaning. Nearly all of them were foreign, lovely people, but the shifts they had them doing were ridiculous. They’d have to come in at about five in the morning, do a two hour shift. Clock out. Then come back at about one for an hour and a half shift, then back in the evening for another short shift. Their working day would last from between 5 in the morning and 9 at night but they’d only be paid about five hours. Then the fees would be taken out, many of them had to catch buses to get in.

Nobody should have to live like that.

Your appraisal and opinion is vastly more valid than that of pampered, privileged and generously remunerated middle class human rights barristers, job for life gold plated pension public sector detached and others who do not have a clue from within their parallel universe!

Aye, Islington sociology professor types calling working class gammon, should spent just a day in someone else's shoes!

We all know the middle class types (999 emergency ambulance aside) i.e. one's that can pay for a private G.P appointment, private dentist, private health care insurance, or private hospital surgery. Hence why they care so little about overpopulation and strain on NHS/service provision!

It's the poor and working class that suffer and will suffer the most from an over populated U.K!

There’s an under riding attitude in this country that we need immigrants because they’ll do all the shit jobs that British people won’t do. That’s an incredibly arrogant and borderline racist attitude to have. I’ll never forget that smug sneering woman on question time who was against brexit because “if there’s no immigrants who will serve me my coffee in Pret?” It’s disgusting (the attitude I mean is disgusting, not the coffee in Pret, I’ve never tried it) but it’s incredible how many people think like that. They are the true racists in my opinion.

There are estimated to be 136,000 people living in modern slavery in Britain today. I would be willing to place a lot of money on the true figure being significantly higher. With people being smuggled across the channel and arriving here through other nefarious illegal means they often get forced into the criminal underworld. Whether it’s sex trafficking, drugs, farm labouring or other cash in hand enterprises like these car washes that have popped up all over the place they are being exploited by criminals on a daily basis and very often have little say in the matter and nothing to show for it. They are not humans, they are property.

It must be a nice warm feeling to just be able to say “everyone is welcome, let them all come” but the brutally harsh reality of life doesn’t work like that. It’s moronically naive to suggest that we can invite the world to come and welcome them all unequivocally. I’m not sure that sending them to Rwanda is the best solution mind but it’s clear that something has to be done.

When the external heavy construction side of things at Parc Fforetfach was over a dry lining firm from Cornwall moved in to do the contract at Boots.

They had a Romanian guy who worked 18 hour shifts on appalling money.

Great post and very thought provoking.

If we’re ever going to address this properly we need to have a proper conversation about illegal immigration.

The answer has to be around being able to provide a legal application route and process accordingly.

The answer defiantly isn’t politicking with ineffective ‘look at me’ tricks to keep the wings of the party aligned.

We aren’t allowed to have a proper conversation though. You’re often labelled racist for even suggesting there may be negative aspects to mass immigration.

As for the legal application routes, they exist. Many use them every year. Those who choose to pay for the services of people smugglers (£10,000+ for a place on the boat btw) do so to specifically get around legal application routes.

My understand is that isn’t the case for Afghans for example.

I may be wrong.

My issue is when immigrants get used as political bogeymen for all that’s wrong with the country. I get frustrated that our leaders get off so easily.

There isn’t a legal route for these people, that’s why they risk their lives. I’ve prosecuted these people smugglers, they remove their victims passports. When people say they should stay in the first country in which they land, firstly there is no requirement to do that, also a lot speak English and they have family here and thirdly as we are an island, we’d never have to take any asylum seeker as they’d never land here first.

They know the hard of thinking have been conditioned to blame desperate immigrant people they have never met for all their ills.

They knew the risk of lawyers doing their job, they still risked £500,000 of public money.

I take you back to my Janice and Mick from Manchester example.

You would have to question just how desperate they are if they flee England and pick Barbados as a destination for relocation, wanting all their benefits, money, handouts and healthcare.

I am pretty sure you would be criticizing them rather than describing them as poor and desperate Janice and Mick. Am I right?

The UK cant be the destination for people from every war on the planet. Flee into a neighboring country, certainly. But you can't just pick where you want to go, life doesn't work like that.

For the people coming here of course it is. They have picked the UK for a reason, and that is largely due to all the benefits they can get from living there. It's not refuge when you start picking and choosing, its convenience.

Would you answer my Janice and Mick example then? As nobody has yet.

Civil war breaks out in England, they rock up in Barbados wanting the countries healthcare and their money. Barbados refuse and Janice and Mick go on record complaining that they can't get Barbados to let them in and pay them and how angry there are...

Do you think the people of Barbados would be delighted to welcome thousands upon thousands of Janice and Mick types?

Do you criticise Barbados and their people in this example or Janice and Mick? Be honest now.

I can see the Twitter comments now calling them ''entitled white gammons, or Karens'', trying to impose themselves and thinking they have the right to go where they like.

I have no doubt that this would be the case. All from the same people who are advocating allowing people from all over to come in for exactly the same reasoning.

I would expect them to respond to the hypothetical humanitarian crisis by working with their allies to provide asylum systems that would enable efficient processing and in turn them taking their fair share - pretty much as we’ve done with Ukraine. You don’t see Ukrainians coming across in boats as the system is better.

I wouldn’t expect Janice and Mick to be deported to Rwanda with no set means of return should asylum be granted. I wouldn’t expect all the Barbadian politicians to blame all the ills of their country on Janice and Mick to divert from their own failings.

How’s that?

Well no, we both agree the deportation to Rwanda is an incorrect move.

But what i am asking is would you blame Janice and Mick for crossing all those countries because they fancied living in Barbados... or would you blame the Barbados people for not wanting to take swathes of Janice and Mick types, thousands of them.

Because I bet any money you would have very little sympathy for Janice and Mick. Very few of those championing open borders would. They would be described as white, entitled gammons/karens should they complain that they couldn't get in.

Yet Petr and Dinara from Ukraine would be seen as poor, desperate people being denied an opportunity to live freely. We both know that's right, come on. Do you disagree?

Yet both situations would be exactly the same, no difference at all.
