Swansea City warn the fans again on behaviour 11:22 - Oct 27 with 7561 viewsKeithHaynes

OS

Swansea City wishes to remind supporters that it has a zero-tolerance approach to anti-social behaviour on our official coaches for away matches.

The club has seen a rise in incidents since the start of the season, with supporters coming forward to raise complaints relating to behaviour, discriminatory chanting and abuse of those supplying the service.

This behaviour affects the enjoyment for many other supporters using the service and, whilst the club has issued several warnings and bans, we will continue to work with the Supporters’ Trust on these matters.

The club is working with Turners — our official coach travel service — to now provide stadium personnel and stewards on our coaches for the next three away games, starting with Saturday’s trip to Bristol City.

Every adult travelling on these coaches must have a form of ID on them and be able to show a valid match ticket if requested.

If behaviour on these services fails to improve and incidents continue to occur then Turners have already informed the club that they would have no hesitation in ceasing the service, which would have a detrimental impact for a lot of our supporters and, in turn, affect the numbers of supporters who travel away.

The support given to Russell Martin, his staff and the players this season has been nothing short of incredible, and the club recognises and thanks the vast majority of supporters to continue to impeccably represent our football club and community home and away.

The club wants to ensure that everyone who travels via the coach service has an enjoyable experience and gives the team the backing they deserve.

But anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

With respect, as far as the law is concerned, it’s not wrong. Whether it should be, of course, is a different matter and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

(I may have misunderstood your meaning)

Advising where to go to the toilet is not racially abusive. It is a geographic recommendation. Not particularly sinister. "English always cheating" is a little racist probably, but let us face it, we are talking football here so is not far off factual. Welsh do it as well of course. Diving for penalties etc.

The "Welsh" Sheep shagg*ers is exclusively all Welsh football teams including the national team. It is not limited to Swansea city. It is in my view off the scale in seediness and is an ethnic slur by projecting one group as some how "sub human". Putin has labelled Ukrainians as sub human to get his way. (Calling them Nazis)

The Welsh are an ethnicity therefore abuse is identical to abuse of African or Asian players and fans. The history of exploitation of such peoples are a factor but there are similarities.

All sensible people would recommend this filth ends. Not too many on here it seems. Zero mean zero. Perhaps the Trust could ask the club to allow some lower end racial abuse aimed at Welsh who are after all mostly white skinned.

"Swansea city confirms is has a zero tolerance of racial abuse (subject to exceptions)"

Mostly white skinned?

Can you be Asian or of colour and be ethnically Welsh then?

Absolutely Json Mohammed for example. A person of colour a practicing Muslim and fully integrated in Welsh culture education language history sport politics etc.

Not very popular on this forum as it happens.

He studied Welsh and Politics at Swansea University and then attended Cardiff University for a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism. He is a practising Muslim.) Wikipedia.

The Red haired people you are describing are Gaelic/Gallic.

Brythonic tribes had dark hair.

So you’re ethnically Irish are you?

It is not a precise science. I bit of Irish Scot and a tad of Anglo Saxon perhaps and Jew I suspect. However it is my education birthplace empathy with the community (outside Swansea) language, christian faith (lapsed), friendships which gives my Welsh identity

We’ve had the disagreement many times, the ‘sheep shagger’ chants in the context of a football match, is unlikely to be a racially aggravated public order offence.

There have been a couple of convictions for Welsh people being called sheep shaggers.

Yes but in what context ? It wouldn’t be 15,000 English fans singing to Swansea fans who were then nicked for singing derogatory songs about the English. That’s all my point was.

It would be difficult to arrest and prosecute 15000 people all in one go for shouting sheep shagger. You’d probably need a whole team of baaaaristers.

My question is:

If we played an Indian club in a press season friendly and 15,000 home supporters were chanting at the Indian fans something stereotypical of that nation.

How many defending the sheep stuff would be calling that racist and condemning it on here?

I’d hazard a guess that everyone would.

Again, the context is different. The welsh v English ‘banter’ is taken by the overwhelming majority of fans as being just that. I find both welsh and English ‘banter ‘ and tiresome and never join in the anti English nonsense (including that stupid ‘footballs coming home…they did get to the final ). It is something that both fans give back and forth and there is no malice or racism intended, it’s a pathetic chant.

What you are suggesting is entirely different.

Again, outside the context of well known phrases in a football game is different.

This is what the law is, it’s not an opinion. It’s what the law would say and what the cps would prosecute. The welsh v English stuff would not be in the public interest to take to court. Without that, you can’t charge.

Just clicked onto the game as it started.

First thing I heard was our fans singing the ‘we know what we are’ chant.

I wonder if anyone has dialled 999?

Trampie may have given he’s so precious. Still laughing about his scholarly review of English laws (overwhelming amount of which apply in Wales without issue from him I imagine) and an independent Wales having the fairest laws in the land. Couldn’t make it up..

Surely he’s the very definition of mixed race?

Welsh? Of course?

Racially Welsh? Not by your definitions.

I’m still not sure by your reckoning that I’m racially Welsh. I’ve certainly haven’t any red headed relatives in any of my family photos and they go way back.
