The Swans have three out for this one and the Potters the same, but the away sides missing squad members is quite impactive.1
Stoke City v Swansea City : Pre Match, Teams, Latest and links 15th Aug 2026 09:09 The Swans take on Stoke City later today at 3pm backed by nearly three thousand fans at the Bet365 stadium in Staffordshire. We will have all the latest news as we build up to the first game of the 2026/27 Championship football season.1
Stoke City 1 Swansea City 2 : Fulton magic & Adam Idah seal the win 15th Aug 2026 18:25 It was Swansea City who came up with the goods at the Bet365 today in Staffordshire. A competent and more ruthless display earned the Swans the points and really at the end of this game they were very much deserved. At times there were question marks but winning here for the Swans very rarely happens with Ethan Galbraith anonymous throughout the game thanks to Jay Fulton and Marko Stamenić.4
Swansea Independent : Oh what a brilliant day in Stoke ! 16th Aug 2026 11:04 Rhys Clayton has a look at the win at Stoke City which was unexpected for many, but what a win. We should always celebrate positively and yesterday was certainly reason enough.1

Wrong, he was good because Ben was immense, he guided welsh around the park and as time got in welsh got more confident, therefore better.
May I state again, cabango was immense.
Agree with this. That was Cabango's best performance for quite some time. Welsh was impressive for a first competitive start for us. Looking forward to seeing that partnership grow.

I think their goal was off side but even from replaying it I couldn’t be 100%.
Cabango made a howler when Sorba Thomas came at him and no wonder he was all over Vig for saving it. One of very few errors to be fair.
Some lovely interplay for our goals. That should get even better as the season progresses.
I thought it was offside as well when it happened but looking at the replay (several times; stop and go) it is really close and am giving the asst ref the benefit of the doubt.
I remember last year's start when Vip didn't start and Cullen did. Cullen scored and it took awhile for Vip to get up to speed. Most of his 23 goals came in the 2nd half of the season.

Disagree with you, which is fairly rare tbh, the Fulton - Grimes to me to you partnership held us back badly, and your right we've had some clueless managers, maybe not clueless, but 100% stubborn and Fulton too the brunt of that. None of the criticism is personal to Jay the person whom I've bumped into a few times and is a lovely chap.

Bang on Why can’t dwe me accept this simple fact Fans attack / insult. : slag off / players for their performance on the fans aren’t bothered whether they are nice or not or what God they pray to or if they love the city , fans and the stadium cat Players earn good money and put themselves first, as they should Cullen loved the club but moved away for his career and outright to
No player needs fans defending him None Players are not affected , at least good ones Galbraith had stick and it didn’t affect him Will he be hurt ? Will he buggery

Remember that folks
I think Galbraith is hurting tonight, his current midfield was totally outplayed by the midfield from his previous club. As stated by the Stoke supporters Swansea didn't miss Galbraith. Stoke were playing at home and were not good enough, if he isn't hurting he should be. But then again does the arrogant T really care.

Perhaps our experienced players reaction to his decision to leave was more telling today they knew his quality and reacted accordingly to shut him down where possible. He chose to leave, did fans react to him today, yes they did, do they care yes, It was a good win away at a ground where we have gained very little success over the years, with what little I saw of the game our play looked more controlled our first touch was better players didn't dwell on the ball so often one or two touches to move the ball , we did go done Cul de Sac against good defending but we opened the field up far better than in other games., Job done it could all be turned on it's head in the next game, I can eat my words after saying Fulton and Stamenic wouldn't start together but saw that Matos thought there was potential in the pairing , our midfield has been an area of concern but for a game at least we proved leaving an up and coming but not proven midfield player go his preferred way didn't affect us unduly. Do good players like losing of course they don't, to say differently for me would mean a player is not worth having and as a supporter I would expect them to be upset in the short term, will one loss ruin their lives but careers can change at the blink of an eye, Galbraith maybe has more money, his family may be happier I don't know in the short term was his move to the benefit of himself or did he do us a favour. His team lost ours didn't happy days.

Very true and a true guide of where we are Objectivity isn’t for fans really I’m Just chufy Swansea folk need to get their arses down there It’s a decent produce and Vitor has charisma that the likes of Diff and Cooper never had and we don’t have to put up with Russyspeak
Still after a great win away you have to find someone to spout your bile at, shame, you missed an absolutely amazing day, had a few beers with old friends, made quite a few more, some from Ireland.
Then the game, wow, what a performance, especially seeing it live with almost 3k loyal jack bastards.
Shame you cant put yourself out to actually go and watch us live.

Hopefully Matos now has enough options to pick a side on a match by match basis to get a result. Quite possibly our starting 11 will not be the same next Saturday, don't change a winning side, possibly yes if it gets you another result.

If the club feel we need one we will sign one if they don't we won't. Haywood was on the bench today how close he is to playing 1st team matches who knows but Matos rates him very, very highly. He is 6'2" and not your normal 17 year old.

We also have Arthur Parker who has featured in the first team last season ...but as WR says the club will sign one if its needed bit Matos does seem to know what he is doing

Ross Stewart is coming in for next Saturday, but probably on the bench. Not expecting many changes.

I asked the question would Matos struggle with all the options he needs to look at or at his disposal, he started today with an experimental team as such but brought on experienced players together the upper hand as see out the game. At home would he want to kill the game off early and pick or change a team he feels can do it.
As for Lissah a young player who had to deal with Sorba one of the leagues highest assists stat last season.Lissah has things to learn, a step up from the Scottish Premier or is Sorba playing in a lower league than he should be, either way good man management for Matos to protect Lissah by taking him off..

I thought Sorba was very disappointing. Put through by a brilliant ball from Galbraith and should have made it 2-0. Instead he turned the football into a party balloon as he fell over. Then he was away in the second half as Cabango fell asleep. Clean through without a defender in sight and he fires it straight at Vigs, who makes his only save of the season. Two really poor efforts in front of goal and he didn't create for others either. It was impressed by Lissah. I actually liked his booking for the professional foul on Sorba. It showed a maturity above his age to take one for the team.

Nice win Matos has tried to get both Stamenic and Fulton on the pitch in a number of the early this season Leganes and Birmingham they only had 10min in each game, and Stamenic played the further forward role on the right rather than the left as this game it lowed Fulton and Stamenic to alternate, didn't get to see the second half but glad to get the win
Matos just learned that all of a sudden he has found a cracking CDM - not in the transfer market but down the back of the sofa! I’d like to get a very good RB in , leave Lissah to compete for CB or if Fulton is missing play CDM. Stanenic isn’t made for that role and the two complimented themselves perfectly yesterday which made for a dominant midfield. We know there’s going to have to be a ton of rotation during any Championship season but if we spent a good 5 million on that RB perhaps we could keep Vipotnik and not fall foul of the finance rules.
On the game itself - Matos had his preseason and most of the recruitment he wanted so it was all in a way about him today. And he proved himself to really be THE man for the job. Our football is of a different dimension now and wonderful one touch football which will see us top end competitive. A big shout out to the owners who have totally transformed the squad with some excellent player recruitment. All in all the glass is three quarters full!
