Swansea City v Wayne Rooney’s Derby County : Matchday Thread 21/22 21:18 - Apr 6 with 13397 viewsNotLoyal

It’s the Wayne Rooney thread with added thread and thread. The type of thread your old granny used to use to thread your socks.

The Ref !
Tim Robinson will be the referee when Swansea City host Derby County at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday (3pm). The West Sussex official will be taking charge of a Swans game for the second time this season — having overseen the home win over Blackburn in February - and just the fourth time in total. He previously had the whistle for the away win at Reading during the 2018-19 season, and the defeat at Fulham the following campaign. Robinson will be assisted by Andrew Fox and Nigel Lugg, while Sam Allison will be the fourth official. Robinson has taken charge of 30 games in all competitions this season, dishing out 132 yellow cards 🟨 and six reds 🟥 including the one issued to Ryan Manning in that meeting with Blackburn. 132 yellows in 30 games ! Look out !

Swansea City v Derby County ‘Last chance saloon for Rooney’ ? 7th Apr 2022 11:29
Swansea City may hold the better win rate statistic than Derby County over the history of this fixture generally down to a number of wins in the sixties, but recently the swans have struggled against the rams. 0

Wayne Rooney looks ahead to Swansea City v Derby County 8th Apr 2022 10:16
Derby boss Wayne Rooney really couldn’t have done anything more to get his side in to a position where they had half a chance of staying in the championship this season. The loss of twenty one points for administration issues and financial breaches have been the catalyst for what is fast looking like relegation. 0

It was another win but it didn’t come easy after a very convincing start at the swansea.com stadium. The swans were on a high after a great week of putting plans from the training ground on to the pitch and very expertly as well. 0

I'm going for a 4 - 0 on this one.
They have to go for three points and we should prove too good for them ( although given the points deduction and our inconsistency both teams are in a false
position )
I wont be sad to see them go down as Wycombe deserved to stay up last season

I’m not getting carried away. Derby is a decent side and we have not shown we can deal effectibely with a three game week / 8th day.
I’m still expecting a point but hoping for a win.

I’m predicting a few goals in this game. Derby are really in the last chance saloon.
They need to win, so I’d imagine they will come and attack.

I think we did look tired towards the end of the 6 games in 20 day, but after a 14 day rest where they obviously have worked together, we have a full squad to pick from plus derby will come to win the game so I'm with you, no excuses, let's go and win this game.

Confidence is high, I can't see anything other than a win for us.

Think Pato comes back into the side instead of Manning and Wolf goes out left and Downes replaces Fulton.

I am going 3-1.

Same again from the boys.  The big difference last time out was the fluidity, confidence and go-fwd in midfield.

Far better balance with the Fults-Grimes symbiotic axis re-established.

Grimes' confidence was oozing with that solid core, which rubbed off on his entire troop. Shackles were off and gone were the superfluous, stagnating tippy tappy 3 yd interchanges we've been bored with.

Same team, same go-fwd intent,   2-1.

Reversion to pointless possession obsession,  1-3.

Downes will be restored Saturday, as will Pato.
Unfortunate for Fulton as he did well on Tuesday, but 4 into three wont go.
Definetly expecting the same again against a Derby side who are up against ( due to the financial cheating ) and have to go for it.
Swans are in irresistible form and should take advantage of the gaps left when Derby attack.
4 - 0 to Swans is what I predicted.
Come on you Swans !

If Downes is restored, it's because Martin still hasn't grasped the optimum midfield set-up.

The balance is spot on with Grimes-Fults. We are out of synch with Grimes-Downes. Which is largely why we were 16th going in to the Millwall game.

Minimal go-fwd, way too much tippy-tappy stagnation in our back 1/3rd.

'Irresistible form' is stretching it - we were diabolical last home game, with many disgruntled boos. Some proper grown up perspective is always worthwhile.

Just meant last two games.
Birmingham game as I said elsewhere was awful and while I dont go in for booing, I certainly wasnt happy at the end of that week.
Having travelled to Blackpool and Peterborough to witness what were two frankly underwhelming performances, only to see our poor effort against Brum left me spitting feathers.
I had calmed down and returned to my more optimistic self before the Cardiff game and I am glad to say Swans didn't let me down in either game.
I am going into Saturday's game with the same optimism and confident Martin and the team will give us the performance and result we deserve.

Ah, form is most often looked upon as the last half a dozen. Which ain't so rosy, in reality.

Optimism ought to be underpinned with facts.

Ahead of our Millwall game I was hoping Martin had been watching Palace and Arsenal, where both teams used the central pivot sparingly. As a fall-back as opposed to the dominant go-to role. With Downes in the side Martin mostly has 2 DCMs sitting, clamouring for possession for no-purpose a lot of the time. Stagnating in our back 1/3rd.

Fortunately for us the Fults:Grimes combo was restored for a resounding, confident win founded upon midfield proper dominance.

Martin has so far had an unhealthy obsession with overstocking and dominating the middle and stagnating, with insufficient go-fwd. No Zip. Which is largely why we were still only 16th going into that Millwall game.

Let's hope Martin now sees. Sees stuff some proper fans here have seen for yonks.

Cut that last bit out AC, patronising posts are no longer welcome, show a bit of respect to other posters in this reset that has been called.

Its been a far better site since Saturday so let's not try and drag it down.

I think Downes will be recalled, he and Grimes worked superbly together in the 4-0 victory over Cardiff so that suggests it works with the 2.

I would put Wolf instead of Manning to offer a more attacking outlet at home to try and push for the victory.

In the interests of sticking to sensible debate, let's agree to put the "proper" fans nonsense ( which has caused much conflict ) aside shallwe ?
The last eight matches have produced 5 wins, 1 draw and two defeats. So 16 out of 24.
If that form were replicated over a season it would produce 92 points.
So based on that I would definetly there is room for optimism.
Without looking, I am sure the side has seen changes ( some enforced ) in the line ups for those games.
The common denominator is RM, so hats off to him and I hope it continues.
Whatever differing views we have, the ond common denominator we all have is that we want the club to be settled and successful.
Hopefully we are being to see that now

Far too much common sense in that post. You forget that there are a few "proper" fans who are probably wetting their panties at the prospect of seeing Wayne, if user names are anything to go by.

Yes definitely a couple.
However I suppose as long as they are behind our club, then seeing their hero once before he takes Derby down is a small price to pay.
Looking forward to the game tomorrow
