| Swansea City v Wayne Rooney’s Derby County : Matchday Thread 21/22 21:18 - Apr 6 with 13540 views | NotLoyal | It’s the Wayne Rooney thread with added thread and thread. The type of thread your old granny used to use to thread your socks. The Ref ! Tim Robinson will be the referee when Swansea City host Derby County at the Swansea.com Stadium on Saturday (3pm). The West Sussex official will be taking charge of a Swans game for the second time this season — having overseen the home win over Blackburn in February - and just the fourth time in total. He previously had the whistle for the away win at Reading during the 2018-19 season, and the defeat at Fulham the following campaign. Robinson will be assisted by Andrew Fox and Nigel Lugg, while Sam Allison will be the fourth official. Robinson has taken charge of 30 games in all competitions this season, dishing out 132 yellow cards 🟨 and six reds 🟥 including the one issued to Ryan Manning in that meeting with Blackburn. 132 yellows in 30 games ! Look out ! Wayne Rooney looks ahead to Swansea City v Derby County 8th Apr 2022 10:16Derby boss Wayne Rooney really couldn’t have done anything more to get his side in to a position where they had half a chance of staying in the championship this season. The loss of twenty one points for administration issues and financial breaches have been the catalyst for what is fast looking like relegation. 0 Job Done ðŸ‘

He dragged Ben to the floor, no pen. The hand ball for us was a pen, and how on earth wasn't their keeper sent off for the foul on Pato

Of course it can Keith, quite clearly you can see that in the comfort the back 3 are playing, passing and receiving it.....its clearly getting more comfortable and natural to them now.

| Swansea City v Wayne Rooney’s Derby County : Matchday Thread 21/22 on 22:08 - Apr 9 by Dr_Parnassus | Very unlikely I’d say. It’s a concerted style change, chalk and cheese for those that analyse the outcomes of a style and the KPI’s addressed to them. If she had said to me “800 passes, 4% long and 78% possession” - I would have guessed we lost or drew. It’s a direct correlation to result long term and would show if you average them out and split into wins and non wins. There was a clear instruction not to go long under any circumstance under the old style regardless of what opportunities were on. This means we were susceptible to the press, had slow build up and found creating diverse chances a very tough task. These were the areas that many of us were desperate for us to stop doing. But it wouldn’t be a case of not listening, it’s an incredibly unnatural way of playing and would be a consequence of direct instruction. I can’t imagine he was laying into them early on telling them to go long more, it was all about possession and short passing. Recently, just like our purple patch prior to Xmas, we are sacrificing possession, pass numbers and short ball % to actually use the ball. 55% today at home against a team below us, that would be a rarity before now, if this was October you could guarantee we would have been 70%+. We are a play off side, make no mistake about it. Our team is excellent, quality throughout. The fact we have handcuffed ourselves chasing an unrealistic way of playing for so long is a bit of a travesty for me. But if we genuinely have changed and we don’t revert back to 800 passes and 80% possession a game then I’ll happily ignore that fact and look forward. But we can’t return to that ludicrous way of playing, if we do then it’s not going to sit well. [Post edited 9 Apr 2022 22:13]

The stats would have looked an awful lot different had the awful ref given them two penalties or done what he should have and awarded us a penalty for a blatant handball and sent their keeper off for a blatant foul as last man

The first 20 mins when it was the total football that we have seen more of this week, clearly the Martin plan, we could easily have won by scoring more than 2.....The ref then took centre stage. The back is looking comfortable now, I think we have a back 3 to push on with.... The lads are getting it now and they are now understanding how it creates the space to switch the play. Its all about patience and understanding when to pounce. I said in the week that posters should watch the Lakers series on HBO and you will see similarities with McKinney and Martin...Visionaries who are trying to be different.

Well yes when the opposition is reduced to 10 men then possession and pass number will increase as you are trying to utilise and find the spare man. But all things being equal the stats showed correlation with the type of play we have been wanting to see rather than the style that has been tried to get drummed in to the club. It’s a positive not a negative. It wasn’t working.

“Clearly the Martin plan” Clearly his new adapted plan, sure. As I said it’s instruction. Hence why we didn’t see the 800 pass and 80% possession game. It didn’t work, doesn’t work and won’t ever work. … hence the change.

Not sure where you got that from? #learntoread.com The importance is of course to be conducive to proper debate and not have people arguing due to unrealistic views of the game and what is going on at the club. Although ironically if he did log in here and take advice on board the changes now being made to the system would have been made in week 3 onwards, not week 35 onwards [Post edited 9 Apr 2022 23:19]

We will always play that way, it's forcing the press and there will be mistakes but they are getting less and less. We are playing through the press, the midfielders dragging their markers out.... When it works its a joy to watch but its certainly a dangerous style but it's being mastered as much as it can be at this level and you need to be different if you are a certain sized club in this league.

If you watch it again Ben drags him back first so a definite penalty for them BUT we should have had one in the first half and a sending off would have made a massive difference, rooney didn't see those with his blinkers on.

Well that would be our game plan around how we react to the press. If we are instructed to keep going short at all costs then we will return to the forum seen earlier on in the season. If Martin continues to ditch that style and change to the direct style that we have been seeing success for that many were advocating for, for so long - then it will be a joy to watch. It’s a shame Lisa isn’t posting here, we had a great discussion at around week 5 where we laid out exactly what needed to be adapted. That has now, finally, been done.

Quest were really good with it, only thing they all decided on was the goalkeeper fouling Patterson. I think Cabango fouled the player AND we should have had a pen, keeper deffo should have had a red. The refgo was so inconsistent, only thing he got correct was their penalty decision.

| Swansea City v Wayne Rooney’s Derby County : Matchday Thread 21/22 (n/t) on 23:21 - Apr 9 by magicdaps10 | It's comfort and not instruction as well mind! Quite easily you can be uncomfortable with instructions but over time and understanding, knowing what you are doing then your comfort with the instruction gets more relaxed because you understand the direction of it. This guy just creates things to suit himself or save face. |
Save face? for what? My posts are clear from very early and been consistent right the way through, how we are playing now is spot on to what I said we should. I even have you a range of data I think I said 55-60% possession. 8-12% long balls. 500-650 passes. That was in week 5 or 6, I even explained why we weren’t hitting them and how we should fix it. It all came to fruition. We are now regularly hitting the sweet spot in all those areas and the results are showing. It cannot be denied, as much as some are obviously trying. Is this turning into a personal attack because you disagree? I’d hope not after what Keith has warned you all about. If you don’t agree then great, explain and show your view, you have access to the same data as the rest of us. But starting to attack posters and making up silly things like “Martin has been wanting to go long but the players haven’t been comfortable with it and prefer being pressed to death and passing short” is just ludicrous stuff. Everyone else is able to debate nicely. Cut it out. [Post edited 9 Apr 2022 23:29]

That last part shows incredible arrogance. He is the one who played and now managed at a professional level. Have you ever played the game at that high a level, let alone coached a side ?

If we had decent refs in this league Cabango would be in all sorts of trouble. Doesn't wait until the end of the game before trying to swap shirts, and frequently gets free kicks for tripping over his own feet. It all evens out in the end (supposedly). Derby bettered us in pass completion % so Martin might not be happy tonight having seen his side dominated like that. Their keeper's out of contract in the summer.

Don't go down your usual route of trying to twist things you know exactly what I mean, you've confirmed what I've said by your last paragraph in your reply. Why would a professional manager with yrs of experience of being on the field of play and off it in the professional game take advise off anyone off here, its laughable, you wont see that though of course. Anyway you crack on.
