Jofra Archer has been named in the squad, and rightly so. He offers genuine pace and he’s still relatively unknown to the other teams. I don’t agree with the omission of David Willey though. I wouldn’t have had Liam Dawson. But hey ho.

This is the first round robin CWC since Australia/New Zealand in 1992. For me, that was the best CWC. Australia were big favourites, but lost their first four games. England are big favourites for this one. Let’s hope we get off to a better start.

Come on England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

Great recover from NZ to go from 83-5 to 237-6. Could do us a big favour beating Pakistan today - can't see us beating both India and NZ

It’s looking dodgy now.I think both teams are beatable but we have to be at our best to beat both of them.

If, and it’s a bloody big if, we beat India & New Zealand, New Zealand lose to Australia, and Pakistan beat both Afghanistan & Bangladesh, then NZ will miss out.

The problem being that we won’t win both games. I can see us beating India, but I bet the bloody weather would beat us vs NZ in Durham.

What’s the odds that’ll happen?

England need a Hail Mary and then some!

It’s a shame but the team seem to lack someone like a Warner, someone who has got the guts to stand up and be counted.

Smashing records against Afghanistan counts for little.

If we win both games, we go through no matter what. Kiwis will go though as run rate is much better than Pakistan. India on pitch like today.....going to be tough.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory in the 2016 T20 world cup final convinced me that England (mens) do not have what it takes to win tournaments, regardless of how they perform in between. Whether it's football or cricket, they never fail to disappoint.

(Cue England winning their next 4 matches to demonstrate how little I know...)

True, but England also have to play with the most pressure which is a big disadvantage.

My theory, if the Germans or Italians hadn't won a world cup for as long as we have, they'd be feeling the pressure a lot more and wouldn't be nearly as convincing. We're stuck in a vicious circle. If we'd somehow won several, we'd be playing with less pressure and might occasionally be able to actually pass the ball.

Getting back to the cricket, Glamorgan have gone top with yet another gutsy fightback, come on let's 'ave it!!! Labuschagne looking very dangerous for Australia, he'll surely be in the Ashes team.

The shame of that i suppose being the fact that Robert Croft was trying to bring through all the young Welsh players, last year we had a whole team of young Welsh lads with just a couple of extras. We lost every game badly, so they swapped Croft for Maynard and immediately all of the boys we've been developing have been ignored this year, we've got a whole team of Australians and Saffers playing on dodgy qualification grounds. So i'm pleased we're doing well, but i would have preferred to persevere with the youngsters to be honest.

The simple fact is that, "pressure" or no "pressure", at football England have been nowhere near good enough to win a World Cup for about 35 years. We've improved of late under Southgate but I still don't see us winning a WC. At Test cricket we are still pretty woeful albeit have improved, still behind India, NZ and the Saffers in the rankings and I suspect the Aussies will soon overtake us now they have their better players back. Our best game is the 50 over game currently, but we won't win a WC with Morgan insisting on batting as if it was a T20 slog fest; the better sides are too good for that and your luck eventually runs out.

Don't much fancy our chances against India on Sunday, India are currently battering the Windies. Hope I'm wrong but oh dear.

India looking very good. Spoke to an Indian supporter a couple of weeks ago and he was not confident. Should have ignored him and put a bet on them. Many supporters will fail the Norman Tebbit test the way they are playing.

At the last World Cup India didn't lose any games until they got to the semi final. And lost.

I told an Indian supporter they're welcome to lose to us on Sunday, and win their semi final.

What would you rather.....?

England lose last two games But win the ashes

Or

England win the WC by battering Australia in the final but lose the ashes?

I'd like us to win both please!

But I suppose given the choice, just to get the monkey off our back, win the World Cup. The Ashes is important, but it's a more regular event than the WC and it comes and goes (ahem).

'The simple fact is that, "pressure" or no "pressure", at football England have been nowhere near good enough to win a World Cup for about 35 years'

I disagree, i think that pressure is by far the biggest reason in every sport. Germany and Italy haven't had a better team on paper than England for as long as i can remember. If Germany hadn't won for decades, they wouldn't be half as good imo. Success begets success and getting the monkey off our backs is the hard bit. It's why our best teams usually turn to mush in the Champion's league whereas our smaller teams usually up their game due to lack of pressure.

Take you're point though, it seems impossible for us not to fall apart. I just think it's only the pressure, nothing at all to do with talent. We have the best one day cricket team by some distance at the moment.

Pleeeeeeease hold on Afghanistan. This Gulbadin is all over the place. I hope this is a really big deal over there. Does anyone know how well the games are followed?

Faaaark, this is a terrible over.

You feel that the Afghan captain threw that game. What the hell he was doing bowlingtwo out of the last five overs when he had three fantastic spinners tying the Pakistani batsman up. Afghanistan should have won by 20 runs. What a moron he is. I have never in my life seen such a bad decision in a game of cricket that I have seen today.

Agreed. It was the single worst captaincy decision I’ve ever seen in all the years I’ve been playing and watching the game. You have to wonder what on earth was going through his head when he brought himself on. Does he just have such an insufferably huge ego that he had to try to become the hero himself? The Afghan spinners are world class and had the batsmen pinned right down and then he comes on to bowl total garbage. Never seen anything quite like it.

England have only themselves to blame if they don’t qualify. But, something a bit fishy about the end of that game....and as we know cricket has history here...1) he brings himself on to bowl when the spinners had basically got them into winning position and they could have bowled out 2) how many full roses did he bowl over his 1.4 overs? 3) he gets carted for 18 and then still bowls 1 more?? 4) he drops an easy take for a run out in the last over.

I'd say England's fate rests with Bangladesh. I don't think NZ are good enough to beat England, but I do think India are.
Will Bangladesh find enough motivation out of just beating Pakistan? I mean, Bangladesh could still qualify, particularly if England give NZ's NRR a kicking, but Bangladesh would still have the improbable job of beating India first.

India will beat England today and England will not qualify for the semi finals. The Aussies will win the WC, they are the strongest side by some distance. I also think they will be too good for England in the Ashes.

The knockout stage has now arrived for England and the weather has turned just in time for us. I think that today's itch will suit us and I'm going for an England win here. Would rather that Pant wasn't playing today as he'll have something to prove and he's good. So I'm going for more than 350 runs in the first innings, Pant to top score for India and an England win. Come on!

OZ might win the WC if they aren't chasing in the final.

As for the Ashes no chance until they stop trying to generate as much bat speed as possible at swinging Duke balls around off stump. Unfortunately the f*cktard Warner may have a good series if he continues to show the patience he has at the WC.
