I actually thought Scarlett was one of our better players in the first half (a very low bar I realise.) He showed for the ball when he got the chance, and generally did something worthwhile with it. Given the shitshow the match turned into subbing him made total sense though.
Out of interest were you at the ground or watching on TV? There is showing for the ball and there is showing for the ball in the right place. Positioning and making runs off the ball. Night and Day the difference between Saito and the kid. If that had been Smythy first half he would have got a caning. I'm sure the kid will come good and he's worked really hard in training and all that. But if we are going to be about standards, it's well below what is required for this level and he has been thrown in far too early and it had a real impact on us first half I'm sure he will have learnt loads but we can't do that again. Needs to earn his start by having a real impact with results from the bench first.

I guess tonight I'm internally divided, and that division appears to be reflected on this thread. A draw at home and pts dropped against arguably the worst (and managerless) side in this league, or the major exhilaration of an immense fightback with 10 men that left LR absolutely bouncing? I don't know.
I really admired Captain Dunne's Top Six comment for its bravery, spirit and determination - but I immediately referenced this after Kenny's 2nd goal today. Does a side pitching for an upper play-off place concede two goals in under half an hour against a 23rd place team which has lost 6 of the last 7, or does the power of the 2nd half fightback lay a foundation for a place in the top quarter of the Championship in May? Very hard to judge or know.
There's spirit and steel there, unquestionably, but we have had a kind-ish fixture list up to now. We have improved no doubt - and today proves it again. But Top Six? Let's see in early December.
Not forgetting we were missing Chair, Lampty and errr Kone. Boy Kemper to come back also.
We still haven’t had our “best” 11 out on the pitch together yet.
The Wet Spam game will be interesting to say the least.

He was mostly showing short with his back to goal, and after getting pushed off it a couple of times he was hardly given it again. He was good on occasion but if his team mates won’t trust him, he can’t contribute. He’ll have happier days.

A nightmare of a first half in so many ways, but what a 2nd half performance with ten men. So proud of how they rolled their sleeves up and dominated PNE with 10 men , thats not easy to do. Starting to love Stephan a little more with every passing week. Made some great subs today and must've delivered a fantastic team talk at HT to help them turn that around. That said, I'm annoyed we started so poorly and showed so little first half. Hopefully a one off.

Yes, a very fair summary and much how I saw it.
In fairness to Stephan, he alluded in his post-match interview to having got some things wrong. Perhaps they were the calls you mention. I like managers who admit occasional failings rather than pretending they are omnipotent in the Fergie/ Mourinho style.
For me the striker situation remains the worry: looking at that bench he had no centre forward options that would get him a goal. Burrell had an off-day, albeit in very difficult circumstances that left him isolated. Even playing so much better second half, having only 10 men, we couldn't draw him into the game. We had to call on a striker who shows great endeavour but just doesn't score. We have 3 other strikers at the club who are all - for slightly ambiguous reasons - unavailable. We must be able to draw on some of those options after the international break. We showed today we have the wingers in Poku, Smyth and Saito (all three excellent) but if you have 30 shots in a game you need to be scoring more goals.
Still, as you also highlight, a lot of positives today. The Smyth goal almost on a par with the Morgan blaster last season or the Dunne screamer the season before (both against Brum). The joy just tempered a tad because we should never have been in that position.

We showed lots of character and belief, but our undoing was a poor start compounded by a sending off and quickly followed by conceding a second
That should never be allowed to happen with a team aiming for top 6 playing a bottom managerless team at home
I can see why some felt it was 2 points lost more than one point gained
If we are still having so many chances, shots and touches in the box without converting them into goals, that poor first 20 minutes is criminal.
We are shooting ourselves in the foot
But what to unpack overall is we managed to dig ourselves out of the hole with belief, character and strength to not lose
In this early days, that to me is a massive positive but please, please learn from this.
I absolutely loved the histrionics from Preston’s Clarke on the award of our late corner, and particularly his reaction when we equalised off it, but did he even touch it? Hard cheese, old chap.

Great game of football and proves what a great league the Championship is, to be honest the prospect of PNE match sort of does not alight the senses, but the game had everything. There is belief in this Rangers team and Stephan made the right call at half time. For me in 2nd half, Kamara, Madsen and especially Poku made the difference. Poku without doubt his best game in a QPR shirt and hope that gives him the confidence to push on. Big shout out to the crowd yesterday we really helped get the boys get a result.

Look, I’m delighted we got a point but Preston were there for the taking from the get go. The team selection was appalling. Chucking in a 16 year old when Smyth, Saito and Lloyd were all on the bench. Unfortunate to have Vale get injured in the warm up, but why for the life of me replace him with a defensive midfielder. We are playing a side without a manager and struggling for any form. The game showed once again our inability to convert so many clear cut chances. The ref didn’t help. Gave them so much. The time wasting from their keeper was a joke but somehow was not booked despite giving us a corner at one point! How have the club allowed Kone to come back from pre season so unfit? That appears double standards if Kolli is deemed to be unfit to be in the side. Where was Obikwu today? Played a 10 mins cameo at Charlton and vanished again. That’s 4 games without a win and still only one win at home. I’m afraid this first part of the season we flatter to deceive and mid table it will be. Too many players are just not cut out for the intensity of this league or to last 90 mins.
Totally agree. I'm delighted with the response we showed in the second half and, clearly, morale looks to be good as does the players' attitudes, but that first half was simply appalling. For me, JS underestimates teams down at the bottom. It was exactly the same last season and we come unstuck every time. We had no game midweek so there was absolutely no need to start Scarlett (just turned 17 a few weeks ago btw). He did show some nice touches but is very lightweight still. Why the need to start him when Saito, Smyth and Lloyd were all available? It's because he thought Preston would be a walk in the park.
It was a good comeback, but we've only taken 2 points now from Bolton and Preston at home. Good comeback or not, if we have aspirations to be in or around the top six we need to be winning these type of games. We shouldn't be discussing a good comeback and being pleased with a draw at home to Preston. If he'd taken them seriously and not underestimated them we should be talking about a good win & 3 points.
I know there's a lot of games, but he messes about with the team too much. I just don't think we're going to achieve anything with JS in charge.
And Obikwu... who knows? Perhaps we'll see him in another 8 months time.

Still thinking about the game. The second half performance was one the most impressive displays of football I’ve seen from QPR in a long time. The first half we seemed a bit shell shocked but regained our composure second half and got the very minimum we deserved from the game. Everyone put in a shift. Even JS got a yellow! The bench went mental when we scored which showed how much it meant to everyone. Being in the ground, hearing how the fans got behind the team, incredible sense of belief from everyone! Felt very special. I’m sorry if that all sounds a bit over the top, but those last minute goals are absolutely mental, stays with you for a few days!

Conceded after 25 secs. A man down on 15. 2-0 down on 26. That's one he'll of a comeback. We totally dominated the 2nd half and could have won it. Iversen is a decent keeper. Pure reflex save from Alfie and a decent one from Madsen's FK.
Is it 2 points dropped or 1 rescued? From the.position at HT I'll go for the latter.
