| Luton Town v Swansea City : Matchday Thread Saturday TEAMS on 16:32 - Mar 13 by Flashberryjack | I have a moan if we play terrible and win, I'm always gutted when we lose (not quite so if we play well). I'm absolutely over the moon when we win and play well (unfortunately that doesn't happen very often). But, I was a ST holder in our vetch days, a ST holder since we moved to the Liberty, and I've already bought my ST for next season, which kind of gives me the right to have a few moans along the way. |
Everyone has the right to moan, you don’t need a season ticket to be able to do so. Free speech and all that. It’s just a case of why you would want to when we are doing so well. People should fully understand the squad restraints we have, so expecting us to play free flowing tiki taka isn’t the most realistic of demands. Moaning at our style of play isn’t going to magic a wonder striker from our youth system that allows us to retain attacking possession, or make Naughton magically grow 6 inches so when we do shoehorn him into the back 3 we aren’t getting beaten in the air. We are making do with what we have and working with it. It’s going pretty well. People should recognise that and give praise where it’s due. We are in the automatic places for Gods sake. (Edit - a 94th minute Watford winner says we are 3rd, joint with second with a game in hand... but you get my drift). [Post edited 13 Mar 2021 16:56]

We all have a moan mate the bad days make you appreciate the good ones a bit more that's how I see it.. We defended well today a tough place to go they got a pretty good home record and a few good players. Grimes was outstanding again all 3 centre halves did very well. Woodman improved 2nd half and the midfield got better when Fulton came on. A decent away performance Watford just scored which has spoilt it slightly.

People are once again looking for things to be depressed and critical about. - We're boring. - We're lucky. - We shout at refs. - Our clean sheet keeper is a joke. - They could have had penalties. Any others? |
Those criticisms are from the weak, who now should have no credible voice. It beggars belief why some can only moan. Even when we win, time and again. If they behave like that in real life, they can't possibly have successful relationships or jobs, surely ? Abhorrent. btw - add: "We should of":- (for those that still cant see the irony, "Should Of" is a direct quote of one of our very twpest. Even educated 6 year olds don't ever say Should Of) - rotated Bidwell for Manning (when Bidwell was in our top3 performers) - used Subs for subs sake, rotate to rotate innit - signed Bony - played 4 at the back today - not played one of our best players, CH !! - dropped Grimes, always - dropped Lowe when he was player of the month

Spoilt it more than slightly for me, was looking forward to seeing us sitting nicely in the automatic promotion place than having to watch that free kick go in with the last kick of the game ffs.

That was a very good win against dangerous opponents to be fair. 👠Credit again to SC. Although his choice of coffee for breakfast and not tea this morning was disgraceful and showed his inexperience. 😂 |
Very good substitutions they were, it has to be said, took the pressure off, not an easy watch, but its another 3pts towards our goal.

Too negative, invited pressure and were lucky they didn't score. We would have put them away 2-0 quite comfortably earlier in the season, I reckon. Still, another 3 points, and a good 3 points considering their impressive record at Kenilworth Road and recently. Onwards to Bournemouth, which will be an even tougher test.

Well said Flash. The truth of the matter is that even posters with "opposing views" are generally not that far apart in view. It's just the expression of the emotive side attached to the events that have passed is where the difference is.

Not really though is it? If it was we'd all support Man City and watch them instead of the Swans. Or we'd go and do something else if the particular swans game you've got on or at is too boring half way through, like changing the channel if the programme you're watching is boring. Entertainment is an added bonus to the emotional connection.

In what sense? Did we play tiki taka football? No. Did we set out to play in a way to defend our lead resolutely away from home at a team who had only lost there 4 times this season? Absolutely. Some people have a very narrow view of what constitutes “playing well”. We were a defensive unit today and played that part perfectly.

This is the most enjoyable season I can remember, certainly in the last half decade. I don’t have to see us zip the ball into triangles to enjoy watching us. I love watching us win and would take a defensive 1-0 display over any other result traditionally “playing well”. I can’t remember a Swans side that played such stingy defensive football. Must be a nightmare to play against. May not be everyone’s cup of tea, but tough I guess. Continually moaning about it isn’t going to change it, enjoy the success. It doesn’t tend to stay around for long.

I quite like and sometimes agree with Treforys but...You've proved an earlier point from myself. Those of us who disagree are not really far apart in our thinking. Today we have come together in disagreement yet we both had SIMILAR viewpoints. Our vested interest are the same yet our conclusions are disparate. Why? Our, expressive, emotional connections are different so we couch our language in different moulds and here there is friction. That in itself is OK but there are those that wish to utilise that friction to create division and elevate themselves as the arbiters of right/wrong and shape the narrative as a function of their worldview/aggrandising. Too many on this board laud the excising of those on the other board as getting rid of the agenda boys...yet they promote an agenda of their own. Thank *sex*(yes, you got me) for the likes of Fireboy, Gwyn, Major, JB and many others for being more aligned to "my" side but also thank Flash, Cat, Belfie even AfD (plus others) for thinking in their own way... I may disagree vehemently with them but they argue from a perspective that is honest to them and not a point scoring exercise. (well, not entirely. We are but human afterall)

I really don't think we were good defensively but very lucky ,their centre forward got on the end of quite a few good crosses but failed to score, another day he could have had a couple bad finishing rather than good defending,we lived dangerously for long periods..

You aren't lucky to get 20 clean sheets in March. They failed to score because we denied them good chances. Getting on the end of crosses and getting on the end of them in good dangerous positions are two very different animals.

They got on the end of couple good crosses yesterday where adebayo think his name was, just couldn't finish, another when one their players got inbetween our centre halves and headed wide in 6 yard box when easier to score, dont think that was very good defending, and a dangerous position, as you say a different animal can name a few moreclear chances they had as well ,dangerous chances, just bad finishing, like I said rode our luck yesterday on another day could been a couple.and rode our luck last few games also.if you don't think that you really are one eyed jack [Post edited 14 Mar 2021 4:14]

I don't remember any good chances. The best chance they had was when Woodman kicked it straight to them. Apart from that they were just hoofs into the box where we forced them into positions that aren't easy to score from. I can't remember a single time I thought ''wow that was a bad finish''. Tough chances that they couldn't put away. Every single chance the Luton striker would have been odds against scoring. We forced that, it wasn't luck. Compare that to Hourihanes goal as he was lining up, he would be heavy odds on favourite to score. That's just realism and an understanding of what it is we are doing with our defensive unit.

Clear chance second half man left on his own in six yard box cross whipped in free header glanced it wide with woodman stuck on his line.the other forward free header again second half didn't connect properly on edge six yard box again didn't get enough power straight into woodman arms..was you watching game just watch second half over again and there was at least 3 good chances in there
