This was to be predicted. The cost of some staycations were ramped up to ridiculous levels last summer when demand was high. Add in the desire to go abroad without restrictions for the first time in almost 3 years and the rising costs of spending a week in the U.K.

Put it this way I've been threatened with expulsion over the years because I've disagree with many labour policy's but I try and remind them we are supposed to be a democratic party

And now this bunch of clowns 🤡 want to add a tourism tax! Are they deliberately trying to stop people visiting?

Fair point but we need to make staycations far more inviting. Let's be honest tax is a necessary evil , however a total disincentive. I holiday a couple of times a year on the Eastern side of the CDS. We are looking at mid September for our next 11 day break. I can pick up a 2 bedroom apartment for approximately just over 900 euros about a 15 minute walk to the centre. There is no holiday tax unlike the Balerics. I can get two glasses of decent wine and two freshly cooked tapas for about 6 euros. We will have a drink this afternoon in the Black Boy. For a pint a large glass of dry white, packet of crisps £13.00! I take weekend away in the UK but not longer stays.

Really? You don't 100% agree so they threatened to expel you? Can you really not see the problem there? What kind of democratic party says that? Mind you, this is why I 100% disagree with having party whips, MP;s should have a free vote so they can truly represent their electorate.

If they put up toll gates I'm going to buy a pair of Sabot and start throwing them in the machinery! Seriously, if these toll gates happen I can see civil unrest happening. We are under huge financial pressure and the Senedd is trying to push through things that will add more to our costs. It's sheer lunacy when every person and their dog is shouting to deal with inflation, to reduce taxation, to help people with their bills. edit, this may just increase support for abolishing the Senedd and reversing devolution! Maybe Drakeford should ask the Bangladeshi taxi drivers to see what they think?

They're every bit as bad as Westminster, their own little bubble shields them from the realities for the rest of us. News flash drakers, the rest of us are not on 67k per year and we don't get to claim back travel costs (I bet the MS's can claim tolls back) and hotel/rental costs.

Every 10 minutes if you're lucky. Before I learned to drive I'd often spend 30 minutes waiting for a bus service that was supposed to run every 12. It's truly frightening the way things are going in Wales, and it'll get even worse once the extra pigs turn up at the trough. Every insane idea they have can be waved through with impunity. I'm just glad that I'm already most of the way through my working life. It's the kids I feel sorry for.

Totally agree with you about the costs being ramped up. I know someone who has a holiday let, she was very busy last year but was still able to push her prices up as the demand was huge - even after raising her prices she filled every available date. This year, she’s kept the prices high and guess what ……… demand collapsed and she’s now had to drop her prices to attract visitors. The bookings are now coming in because the prices are more sensible.

I can't find the link but the population of under 40s in West Wales is in decline, young people are moving out. The lack of economic investment in Wales is a concern.

They did get a fortune for having empty holiday let's during Covid, and have doubled the price of them since.

Don't blame them. Certainly outside the South Wales valleys what jobs are there for them? A Government job if you're lucky enough to find one that hasn't been centralised in Cardiff. The continued failure (or lack of interest) of the Govt in sorting out transport links West doesn't help. Might as well bugger off to Bristol or the Midlands and see what else they can find. Otherwise it's farming or hospitality for the most part.

I read recently that non eu citizens will have to pay €7 to enter a eu country from next January, on top of the tourist tax. They are all at it, England next.
