WBA v Swansea City 21/22 Matchday Thread AFTERMATH 14:07 - Feb 21 with 20684 viewsNotLoyal

Dean Whitestone will be the man in the middle when Swansea City visit West Brom at The Hawthorns tonight (8pm). The Northamptonshire official will be taking charge of the Swans for the first time this season, having been at the helm for the home win over Blackburn last term, as well as victories over Preston and Middlesbrough in the campaign before that. Whitestone has no shortage of experience, and has been refereeing for long enough to have had the whistle for a Swansea game during the club’s previous stint in the Championship. He will be assisted by Steven Meredith and Shaun Hudson, while Matthew Donohue will be the fourth official.

You can watch tonight’s game on Sky Sports or for those who love an evening by the wireless Talk Sport 2.

We will of course have this match day thread running throughout the day and this evening.

Saturday morning Championship review : Latest Team News WBA v Swansea City 26th Feb 2022 08:43
It isn’t time to start making predictions in the Championship just yet but this weekends games, if we include Swansea City as well are definitely going to split the middle of this league. February and March are defining months in the Championship mid table battle which decides who is heading towards the top six and who is basically hanging around mid table until the end of the season. 0

Russell Martin remains unmoved and resilient ‘ No compromise’ 26th Feb 2022 13:29
Swansea City head to the Hawthorns for the main SKY TV Championship game on Monday. With limited resources at his disposal swans boss Russell Martin is more than happy to welcome back two key figures to his match day selections. Kyle Naughton and Hannes Wolf are back, and Martin issues his unconditional philosophy once again. 0

WBA v Swansea City : Two managers with the same desperate goal 28th Feb 2022 05:23
Tonight’s game at the Hawthorns between two teams on a difficult run of results could prove pivotal for the remainder of the season. Russell Martin leads Swansea City in to the game, the swans last win on the road was away at Barnsley in November. Steve Bruce on the other hand is in charge of the baggies who have won only twice in their last twelve league games. 0

The WBA curse and there’s more than one to counter 28th Feb 2022 11:34
Swansea City travel to the Hawthorns this evening with numerous hurdles to overcome. As we reported this morning not winning at West Brom for nine years is one issue, the other is trying to manage Andy Carroll who just loves to play against Swansea City. But that’s not all. 0

West Bromwich Albion: Sam Johnstone, Conor Townsend, Dara O'Shea, Kyle Bartley (captain), Semi Ajayi, Callum Robinson, Grady Diangana, Jayson Molumby, Andy Carroll, Adam Reach, Alex Mowatt.

Substitutes: Darnell Furlong, Matt Clarke, Karlan Grant, Cedric Kipre, David Button, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, Quevin Castro.

Swansea City: Andy Fisher; Ben Cabango, Kyle Naughton, Ryan Manning; Hannes Wolf, Flynn Downes, Matt Grimes (captain), Cyrus Christie; Joel Piroe, Jamie Paterson; Michael Obafemi.

Substitutes: Ben Hamer, Jay Fulton, Korey Smith, Olivier Ntcham, Kyle Joseph, Joel Latibeaudiere, Finley Burns.

Wham Bam Cheers Ntcham : Swans defeat the Baggies 2-0 28th Feb 2022 22:43
A stylish last twenty minutes from Swansea City ensured three points and a huge sigh of relief for boss Russell Martin. Strikes from Joel Piroe and Cyrus Christie from well supplied crosses in the last quarter brought a huge smile to the big away swans support. It was a cold and damp night, a slick pitch underneath the lights and a first win in nine years at the Hawthorns for Swansea City. 0

Needed a result of sorts tonight,

Glad for Martin and the team.

All about the little victories at present. Wasn't pretty but reminded me of Barnsley earlier in the season.

Said I would keep a wide berth tonight whatever the result but I enjoyed that tonight and what's wrong with being happy.

Yep, really enjoyed that. Great game. I am annoyingly happy anyway, so no change there.

Looking forward to Blackpool now. Not far away from me, so should be a cracking day out.

Nothing, we are all happy.

The issue comes when people start attacking other posters for being correct, pretending they weren’t because we won a game.

We can all agree this was a good result and be happy. But I’m sure within 24 hours certain individuals will be trying to instigate arguments.

Would have taken a point but 3 points 😉

Wasn't totally exciting but it was a well planned out performance with the odd scary moment as you would have axpected.

As I type, Cyrus mentioned that word "transition"...... We need the realism on what this season is about and tonight was one of those little victories we need in achieving the goal.

Great win that was for us and desperately needed, Ntcham made a massive difference virtually with his first touches, great finish by Piroe, I was screaming at the tele when we took Obafemi off after we scored, we knew they were gonna come at us and I thought that we needed Obafemi for the out ball, but we did brilliantly in getting the second and my fears abated, great finish by Christie too.

I'm happy with 3 points....let's get on a run

Getting on a run is vital on so many levels.

Confidence will come flooding back to the players if we can string results together.

Ntcham made a massive difference, bit of quality for the first goal.

Naughton made a big difference tonight. Still issues at the back, get that defender or 2 who is calm and composed and that alone will make a huge difference.

Can't blame their fans for booing. Apart from hitting the post twice West Brom had another rotten game. Carroll barely touched the ball, and when they tried to play out patiently gave it away as readily as we usually do. 1 goal in their last 7 games tells you everything.

Huge win for Martin. Combined with the Bournemouth postponement must ease the pressure he was definitely feeling.

Could have gone the other way, yet again early on we were leaving space on the flanks in defence, they didn't take, or didn't get the advantage then.

If you want to ee what grown men do on here, take a look at the insulys to fellow fans who simply disgaree.
Nobody is kicking their family pussy around nor having carnal knowledge of their partners.

Even "perches" now getting a mention in dispatches

Strange post again.
We won tonight in what was a controlled manner ( not exciting but it's a start )
Why not just enjoy the win ?
I know it goes against your agenda of "Martin Out" but have a night off eh ?
As Dr P said ( now this a rarity, me agreeing with him ) we won - let's enjoy it ( I am paraphrasing but still )

I wasn't the only one who thought it was strange then!?

Joking about kicking a cat and showing your partner who is boss is not something that should be used as tongue in cheek.

Very strange behaviour indeed.

I thought the post match verdict from Kanu and Murray about us and the plan was very interesting and spot on.

Talked about the cut in money, the style and the Swansea way.... Building a platform for next season and the courage to play a style, a style that was classed as the Brendan Rodgers style.

It was a good listen for a few minutes, both showed good knowledge and understanding... Worth a listen if missed.
