| Tony Santore/Davillin 10:42 - Jul 23 with 3790 views | exiledclaseboy | Morning all. I thought about posting this here as some of you will undoubtedly remember Tony from his presence on this site,PS and other Swans forums back in the day and may have corresponded with him privately or met up with him during one of his visits to Swansea. Sadly it’s come to light that Tony passed away at the back end of last year. The thread at the link has more details. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news for those of you who did know Tony and classed him as a friend like I did. Thanks https://planetswans.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?p=137603#p137603 | |

Quite a character and one who was prepared to drive up to Toronto from Pennsylvania to see us whilst we were visiting. He sent a copy of Epictetus quotes many of which he lived by. Sad news

| Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

I’m really sad to hear of Tony’s passing, he and I shared a love of ‘40s country music and depression era books that we used to mail back and forth; and of course I well remember the evening you and I spent with him in Vesuvio all those years ago. RIP, Dav.

Was there that same night. He was a very pleasant if slightly odd chap. Seemed convinced that stats could explain everything in football, which if anything put him ahead of his time, if not in reality. Went a bit Trumpian towards the end which did him few favours.

| Tony Santore/Davillin on 21:39 - Jul 23 with 2291 views | onehunglow | Not odd at all. Simply a very intelligent deep thinking guy whose intellect flew way over many. When we had serious issues here ,he was very supportive. That is how to remember a man. That he voted Trump is irrelevant or should be. Tony quit supporting our club when it was sold.. A man of principle who said it was toxic . HOW RIGHT HE WAS | |

RIP Dav He was off about American navy I think (was he in the navy ?), I mentioned that the Yanks were a combined half a decade late entering the world wars and he hardly posted after that. [Post edited 23 Jul 2022 21:41]

| Tony Santore/Davillin on 23:30 - Jul 23 with 2169 views | Catullus | Thanks to ECB for sharing the sad news. I exvchanged quite a few PM's with Tony some of them are still here, in one he told me how he became a Swansea fan, -------------------------------------------------- I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, lived here for most of the time when I was not in the military, and returned to the house in which I was born [literally] when I retired. The Swans. I had two step-children, both boys, who were football nuts. A group called "Brittania Soccer" sent teams of young footballers around the States giving clinics for youngsters. Mine attended two of them. Three of the four instructors in the first lot were from Swansea, so I looked the Swans up on the internet, downloaded some photos and stories for the boys, and got hooked myself. That was about 18 or 20 years ago, so I followed the Swans through some hard times, as you know. I had been visiting the U.K. fairly faithfully about once a year for a long time, and the younger lad and I came over to Swasea for a week in 2001 for four Swans games, of which both home games were re-scheduled due to a frozen Vetch pitch. Saw my first live Swans game at Exeter on Boxing Day with guys who became dear friends over the years. If you know them, Gary Martin, Dai Smith, and Andrew Thomas drove down, as well as Mike Kent, Phil Sumbler, Leigh Dineen, NIgel Gigg and his wife, Richard Lillicrap and a few others at Exeter. That was 9 years ago. He wasn't everybody's cup of tea but I liked him, what I knew of him. RIP Davillin, YJB. | |

Shame I am unable to read them back but we had a very interesting and rewarding discussion on here about living energy. After a few days, he messaged me thanking me for giving him a new way of thinking. A very thoughtful and intelligent man, not closed off by his own thoughts but would process everything and then come to a newly considered position. Always hoped he would turn up again. A big loss.

I never saw him act like his stats web page could "explain everything in football," I just thought he found them interesting, and I most certainly did, too. His charts kept track of everything from comparing our points/spot in the table at points of the season to prior PL seasons; to keeping track of goals scored/conceded in each 15 minute increment of the game. Sometimes, that stuff would show interesting patterns. Other times they didn't tell you anything. It was just fun stuff to track. The surly and condescending critics on this site who acted like he was trying to get everyone to rethink how to analyze football struck me as the odd ones, not he. RIP Dav. I had some nice private conversations with him myself. As an American who discovered the Jacks long before I did, I kinda looked at him as a mentor. And it was no surprise that a thinker like Dav was able to filter out the fake news (lies) and get Trump. I suppose he was a bit ahead of me in that respect, too. [Post edited 24 Jul 2022 16:12]

| Tony Santore/Davillin on 16:39 - Jul 24 with 1921 views | Thrasher6 | Had the pleasure to meet Dav on the Swans pre season tour of America...he sent me a nice message below. A nice guy.... Thrasher6, I have very happy memories of that trip. I hope you have, too. I was and still do have good memories of the Swansea folk I met there. Thanks. I'm still a faithful Swansea City supporter and still on here, but I just no longer have the desire to post. Little reward, too much negativity toward me and my posts [for starters]. Best!
