Worse team ever promoted to the PL?

They’ll likely get pumped week in week out but then come back down with all that extra revenue and parachute payments so not all bad. As long as they don’t spend badly…

That comes across as quite bitter. At least it will stop a lot of the wrangling had Boro won it.

Well done to Hull they've turned it round this season and got promotion, hope for the Rangers if we harden up a bit and show consistency next year. Boro have really fallen away badly a bit like Sheff Utd last season.

Season 24/25, Hull survived relegation on the last day.

Season 25/26, Hull promoted to the Premier League via the playoffs.

It just goes to show that it can be done.

And then there's us finishing 16th every season

Something odd these days about watching a bunch of players celebrating the fact that promotion will have sealed their own exit from the club! 15 new players in minimum including replacing everyone but McBurnie I think.

Still, nice to win at Wembley isn't it.

Probably celebrating their big promotion bonuses

I ended up watching the match. Frankly, I wish I had done something else but I suppose there were very unusual mitigating factors and it was boiling. The one thing Hull can do pretty well is defend, which they're going to have to do a lot of next season.

Well done Hull, enjoy your moment.

Shows what’s possible if the desire is there.

That's 6 points we won't get next season. And we have been picking up nil points against Boro in recent times. Oh well roll on season 26-27...

If Hull could lose home and away to a mid-table team then surely it should be the mid-table team that goes up. Only fair, isn't it?

Well done to Hull think that was the right outcome given what’s gone on this week. Hard luck Boro bit of a howler from their goalie cost them.

Stayed up last year only on GD, as well! How we laughed at the time. (and now)

Saints v Boro is going to be a bit tasty next season. Even if it will be 12:00 KO both times.

I need a SAGA. What’s the SAGA? It’s ….. Queen’s Park Rangers.

Didn't Hull have a transfer embargo earlier this season? Honestly, it does not take much to get promoted from this league, much as our overlords seem to think it's some impossible task.

Not going to lie, I had them down for relegation this season... along with Charlton and oxford.

So our record against promoted teams is won 3 lost 3

Trying to get my head around what that actually means.

Probably means Hull being relegated won’t be good odds

Or on the day we can play.

Pleased for Hull though

You are not seriously suggesting that McBurnie is Premier League standard? I think he scored something like half a dozen goals (and I think there was a few pens in there) for SU. Has never scored for Scotland, and despite the decent season he has just had, Clarke didn’t pick hm for WC. He will be on his way before the new season begins

Very good point made that.

Also, the manager has also almost certainly signed, sealed and delivered his own death warrant. Christmas time, Hull ten points adrift at the bottom already and with only a couple of wins all season.

Managers a goner !!!

Hull getting promoted is undoubtedly the funniest outcome from all of this - I'll be genuinely surprised if they manage to hit 20 points next season though.

Next year, you'd imagine Burnley will be around the top 4 all season, whichever of West Ham/Spurs will be there, Middlesbrough probably will, Wolves possibly have the financial room to make signings and then there's a big gap. Sheff Utd are now parachute paymentless so probably need to sell, Southampton are in big trouble so there's a cause for optimism. Millwall and Hull have proven you don't need to actually be that good to be in with a shout - factor in that down to 8th can go up next year and it's more open than before.

Having said that, we'll still finish in a neat line with Bristol City, Stoke, Preston and Swansea because we're not allowed to have dreams anymore.

A couple of years back, I didn't rate him either Myke. However, I think he is vastly improved. He scores goals, is physical, not slow, mobile, has a good hold and lay off game as well as being good positionally. Additionally he has good movement and instinct in the box.

I thought he was one of the best players yesterday. I think he's very decent now and how Clarke picks Dykes ahead of him is beyond me.

Depends what you mean by Prem standard. He probably doesn’t get a dozen goals in 38 games but few players do. Doubt many would have fancied him for a dozen this season. Better than anything the bottom three have had up front this season I’d argue. He was not giving himself the best chance off the pitch in the past but looks a totally different player now.

I am suggesting it, he'll be a fine squad option. They aren't going to be in the market to sign Harry Kane or Kylian Mbappe, they might well be in the market to sign a reasonable international striker as their first choice, but McBurnie has more than enough about him to be part of a Premier League squad yes.

In a weird way the Champ feels a bit more like the PL I grew up watching the mid 90s. Similar rough edges: some decent teams, a few mavericks, the occasional total shitshow, players you’ve never heard of, and games that still feel capable of going completely sideways.

It’s still got a bit of that imperfection & volatility the PL has slowly priced out of itself.

Before the PL money went mad, talent was more spread across Europe. English clubs could still go abroad and get slapped. Now any half-decent prospect gets hoovered up by a bottom-half PL club on a 7yr deal to fill their squad, even bottom 3 teams are stacked with internationals while Europe gets sucked dry.

Round about this time last year we beat Sunderland at their place. Today they qualified for the Europa League!

True but tbf it was a dead rubber as they were already in the play-offs and if I recall correctly in a terrible run of form. Have exceeded expectations this season though, I fully agree.
